I could of sworn he hated Ashley too.
Yet he created, had voiced, and built around a mechanic around her. He could have stepped back and could have said "we need to change this" at any time but he didn't. It's also grating on Mikami's hatred for Rebecca, you can get why he and everyone would hate Ashley since she's dead weight and grating beyond belief, but Rebecca you have to remember is a rookie on her first assignment which I'm glad the remakes were able to flesh out her character from green as grass rookie that need to lean on her superiors in RE0 to a form of confidence shown in RE1 but do have a moment of panic when she doesn't have a loaded weapon while being alone in a room with a Hunter.

Wait, he did? Was this during or after his original idea for RE4 got scrapped. I get why people don't like Ashley, but unlike Rebecca she has no combat training and isn't a prodigy. Her being useless makes sense.

I swear, sometimes I think Mikami is Capcom's own Kojima.

Frankly, i don't understand why people believe Ashley could've been more useful in RE4, her character seemed realistic enough as it is

Look at your average 18 year old girl today, it's impossible to not picture that kid turning into a screaming, panicking mess the moment she realizes she's being hunted by undead villagers with flesh eating parastites bursting out their necks, or what, we expecting her to keep the same composure and skills as the goverment agent with military training and a zombie outbreak under his belt?

Basically after you rescue Ashley from the church, a good portion of the game becomes one giant escort mission where you have to protect Ashley by any means. But dunno if it's a retcon or added-in later, but does state that Rebecca was prodigy who graduated early with a degree in chemistry that got recruited for STARS, possibly in the same deus ex machina way like how Jill was in Delta Force in the 90s. But I'm sure they gave Rebecca some combat training before sending her in with the rest of Bravo team to the Arkay Mountains.

Which they had to bastardize her character come Vendetta since they wanted a damsel-in-distress other than the sake of bullshit writing. Brain straining enough is a running trend with modern Capcom is bastardizing any character they can get their hands on.

A HUNK game should be a midquel showing an inside look at how things were at Umbrella during their villainous stage.

Correct me if I'm wrong but throughout all the games in the series we've never seen stuff like simple Umbrella corporate offices, nor do we even know what their HQ building in Racoon city even looked like? Bit odd, that.

It might also be a way to flesh out Spencer.

On a side note, I really wish 5 and 6 were better because I actually love Revelations 1 and 2, but the stories are tied in with 5 and 6, though I can't remember how much, if at all Rev 2 references 6.

But the Rev games were written by anime screen writer Dai Sato, so they featured stories and characters that were a lot better than the mainline entries at the time, you also visit some more interesting locales and how can you not love being able to play as Barry?

They're action heavy games like 5 and 6, just better versions of that, even before RE7, Rev 2 gave me hope the series maybe wasn't dead after all after 6.

It's just weird to think of that era of the series being mostly awful, save for two gems, but since in the case of 6 I like to pretend it's not canon, it creates a bit of an awkward situation lore wise, though I don't seem to remember Rev 2 referencing 6 a whole lot.

This. We saw the lab in RE2/re2r and I actually really enjoyed those bits. we only stay there for like a minute though. :(

And like I said, for all we've seen of Racoon city, we've never seen what Umbrella's main HQ corporate building in Racoon City even looks like, you can see a skyline in the menu screen for RE2 Remake, but who knows which building is which.

Maybe that's been an intentional choice by Capcom to make them seem more faceless and omnipresent, to only show us the shit they don't want the public to know about and never the "mundane" side of Umbrella as a simple pharmaceutical company besides seeing a few ads.

But I also feel like a game showing the workings of Umbrella from within would be pretty interesting, though maybe it's one of those things that works because it's mysterious.

We actually do have a small look on umbrellas offices throughout the series.
First there is marketing office in re3 where we need to open the lock using one of umbrellas mass market products, then we have a whole building in re gun survivor. In re veronica we see some offices too.

Rev 2 doesn't reference 6 at all until the post-credits, since Rev 2 takes place at roughly the same time the C-Virus is being let loose in China during RE6.

Yes, very interesting settings like... A boat. Another boat. And a random idyllic city that only exists to get destroyed by BOWs.

And interesting characters like... Barry's daughter. And her interesting dynamic of being scared of guns and hating daddy because he yelled at her for using one of his unsecured guns to shoot (and not even kill) her sister. Oh, and she can't fucking speak without fucking saying "fuck," or some other fucking obscenity every fucking other word. Fuck.

These are leagues above the writing of the mainline entries at the time and not at all just as bad, if not worse.

Survivor is one of the ones I haven't played yet.

That's good to know, as obviously some shit went down during the events of 6, I just choose to ignore any specific details, 6 is a blank spot on the RE timeline where you can make up whatever you want happened, as I'm sure Capcom will never directly reference anything from 6 again either.

I just like to think that all that happened was an outbreak happened in China, Chris went in and kicked some ass and saved the day, that's it, maybe adult Sherry helped him? But no Simmons, no The Family, no Neo Umbrella, Ada clones etc etc.

Someone should make a fan game simplifying RE6 or Capcom themselves should eventually make a REmake of RE6 that is essentially a whole new story.

The cruise ship in Rev1 has some cool areas like the main hall, the shopping arcade, shit that felt very much like a classic RE environment, the city was pretty cool too.

You're smoking crack if you think the writing in Rev2 is as bad or even worse than RE6, come the fuck on now dude.

The Rev games are not as good as what came before, they're not as good as the series is now, but they are better than 5 and 6 imo.

Really Rev 1 and 2 should have BEEN RE5 and RE6, just retool Rev1's story so Wesker is the leader of the terrorist group, have Jill and Chris reunite for a showdown with Wesker instead of Chris and Sheva, then Rev2 could have been the real RE6.

But hey, it's just as well, the reason the series managed to have the comeback it did is because RE6 was so dumb and the Rev games only worked because they were allowed to be smaller scale side stories.

Hunk as part of Blue Umbrella or an interquel for him would be pretty cool. I'm not sure how you'd balance it but I've always thought an RE game where you start heavily armed and powerful but slowly get your resources whittled down to nothing over the course of the game would be cool.

I'm lukewarm about the remake. The HD project for the original game is free and honestly better than anything Capcom could have made. I'm fine with them playing fast and loose with the remake's content and tone so long as it's an actually good game and not half baked shit like RE3.

Call me Tyrone Biggums because I am completely of the opinion that the writing of Rev 2 is absolutely as bad as, if not worse than, RE6 by virtue how badly written all around Moira Burton is as a character and how Claire is basically dragged along for the ride with her.

Also, Alex Wesker was a wet baby fart of an antagonist for all the mystery surrounding her since RE5.

Rev games only worked because they were allowed to be smaller scale side stories.
Rev 1 had you fight 800 hunters in an action set piece that ended with an orbital laser destroying an entire city.

Where did this love for that piece of shit come from? Story is as retarded as any of the RE6 plotlines and it plays like RE5 minus the coop&budget.

Rev 1 is not as great as the classic games, it's just better than 5 and 6, same with Rev 2.

They are simply better versions of that formula, but I'm glad we've moved away from that formula in general.

But what's cool is some of the new characters, like Parker "the man, the myth, the legend" Luciani and finally being able to play as Barry "hairy" Burton, some cool locations on the cruise ship, some cool moments overall, they're solid games if not spectacular.

But anyway, the series desperately needs an all new interquel game, HUNK related or otherwise, a game that returns to the classic timeline of the late 90s but shows us an all new story and characters, that'd be rad.

I dare say they should even go full on Mega Man 9 with fixed camera angles, tank controls etc, but just returning to the classic time period would be neat.

It would be a good way to flesh out stuff like Spencer or the H.C.F.

I think I checked out shortly after the drill boss fight.

"Hey kids, you remember Dr. Salvador and the Bella sister from RE4? Well, how about a boss, with a DRILL! Ooooh, scary and cool, right guys?

Crow sounds aren't important enough to warrant entirely new sfx, but from the little crumbs of content that Capcom has been feeding us, I do worry RE4 will be a RE8 reskin. Especially when they said that fighting enemies would be a similar experience to RE2 and RE3.

Capcom! No more invincible enemies following you around anymore!
But Outlast did that, and that's what we copied for RE7, and it did so well with morons! - Capcom, probably.

Honestly, how can anyone defend RE7 and 8? They're clearly unrelated games that just had RE slapped on them last second to sell in what they considered a dead franchise. But people are so impressively retarded, they said how great the Cabin in the Woods game was and how it was totally RE with it's shitty, poorly programmed jumpscares and it's one puzzle, so why not do it again for a Van Helsing game!?

Completely agree about Alex Wesker being an awful antagonist. She’s batshit insane, but not the right kind of batshit insane like Albert. She’s just retarded.

That's the best part. Let's not pretend like Resident Evil's franchise history or lore matters at all. Bring me vampire mommies, give me psycho rednecks, I'm hoping the 3rd game will lean into Lovecraft next with a quiet coastal town.
