I remember doing the same with Glty in the FGC. Some new guys show up, don't know much, hear them talking about how hot she is and what-not (literally has the same surgery pheno-type as Sphere Hunter). So I go up to them, "You know Glty has a dick, right?" - "What?" - "Yeah, she used to be a dude." The look of horror and disgust on their faces was hilarious.

people have talked about ada's terrible performance but wesker, saddler and krauser all suck and luis and merchant are just passable. Leon and Ashley are the only good acting in the game and that's despite Ashley's terrible lines.

Leon is terrible as well. It's not so much the actor but instruction on how to portray him. He's just a broody faggot this go around when he was the smartass super agent in the original.

Ashley is whatever. They've transferred her annoyingness into her abysmal pathfinding AI and made her so much worse, even though she wasn't bad in the original like retards like to pretend.
 
It's not a surprise that Crapcum is great at retconning, especially with character dynamics and/or personalities.
Every single character in this trilogy of remakes is completely misinterpreted.

I fully expect a new level of retard not seen will be unveiled in the globohomo RE5 remake.

Unlike RE4, RE5 merits a remake to a small degree since imo it's even less horror thanRE4 an RE6 was. RE6 at least has a couple good segments. But that's not to say RE5 is bad to play. It's just so action driven with none of the spooky shit that RE4 would do.
 
Well that's why I say despite the script because that's not their fault. I hate how characters not just in this game but all games now talk during gameplay. "sorry, mustve slipped" gets tiring if you hear it 100 times a playthrough, you have melee lines, kill lines, out of ammo lines, enemy morph lines, etc. RE4make is trying to be more atmospheric but the character never shuts up, im never in their head and its distracting in gameplay as well. They also went far out of their way to give ashley credit for things and make her useful, which isnt a problem inherently but its a middle finger to the original, any change would be honestly. That said the actors are good at portraying THIS version of the characters, they are likeable, id say luis is too, him being more fleshed out is fine by me.

Also ashley in the original is only as annoying as the player is bad at the game. Hearing her is a punishment as well as an alert, i guarantee in testing people game overed and didnt know why so they made it as obvious as possible, its not the first time this was done in game, its identical to baby mario in yoshi's island.

Its strange saddler doesnt deal the killing blow though, its also strange leon does nothing to save mike when nvistidors are a joke in the remake, the rocket of the original was unavoidable, but in remake i cant help but feel like if i was in control i couldve saved him. Similiarly the final strike on saddler is robbed from us because they refused to have a qte for it.

qtes have become a bad word since re4 and god of war popularized them its easy to forget how well those games implemented them to make them popular in the first place. Both games started them out easy and lenient but made them stricter toward the end they were a mechanic that conditioned you progressively so when they became more difficult you felt the stakes raise as failure was tied to higher penalities. The way they handled the krauser knife fight is great because dodging and parrying are still effectively qtes and having full control fleshes it out. But to toss the laser hall out entirely for this reason is disappointing.

While im ranting the laser of the original was revolutionary, the laser fixes the inherent problems of non-fps shooting. It makes lining up a shot completely transparent. Theres a few parts in the remake where you have to shoot through bars but theres no way to know if your shot will thread the needle or hit a bar without using an ironsight/scoped weapon. These sections would be completely fair game in the original. It also fixes the issue where you can technically shoot around corners by placing your character behind it using your crosshair as a wall hack leaving you invincible to ranged attacks in the original if your laser has an interrupted path then it stands to reason your shot wont land. It also meant leon's unstable aim was represented by a laser sway and not a drunk camera sway, the camera is awful in the remake. Nobody on the dev team realized why the laser was there, shinji mikami didnt decide on it cause it looked cool, it was a deliberate choice and the fact its gone leads to tons of problems that were already solved. Shots miss all the time for no clear reason now. You can have a laser attatchment still but its too faint and only works on handguns, a misplaced attempt at realism robbed us of the most innovative addition to the genre just like it robbed us of the laser hall, the truck scene, leon using a grappling hook as he falls into the sewer (even though ada can still have one)

I think the remake is a good game theres some genuine improvements but it barely deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as the original because of how obvious some of its flaws are. The treasure system overhaul is fantastic, the shooting gallery rewards being randomized is retarded especially with how powerful some are. Speaking of the shooting range, its challenges being actually difficult is great, mastering them and completing all tasks is fun, theyre a perfect mix of puzzle and skill, but also frustrating because as with anything put to the stress point it shows the flaws of the hit reg most prevelent. Ive missed so many skulls because of the inconsistent feedback of the crosshair.

Also mercs has the spirit of the original kill chains, a longer more reasonable and clearly represented combo timer and a new headshot time bonus so you dont have to melee everyone, but the difficulty is way undertuned, enemies barely hurt you at all aside from chainsaw insta deaths and have no hp themselves, and every enemy drops ammo/health so you can spam with no consideration. Giving everyone a super power on top of that just makes the whole thing baffling. Again the new headshot bonus and addition of enemy indicators so you dont get blindsided by bosses/elites because you didnt memorize every spawn pattern is great but its way too easy. Mercs is the ultimate endurance test in 4-6, its slightly flawed in all games but not nearly as botched as it is in remake.

Might be a bit of an unpopular opinion but I do prefer Remake Separate Ways over the OG. Not that it's really saying much since both of them feel tacked on to the main game and were marketed as a selling point but at least there's actually some weapon variety in this version and isn't a complete asset flip (just mostly.)

Wesker is very fun to play as in Mercenaries because he actually plays like what I would expect from Wesker without being completely OP but I wish they kept his actual hamminess as a villain instead of a generic evil guy.
