Just finished Village and I’m pissed off that I never got a chance to find the last 2 fish that would have increased my movement speed. Where the fuck were they!?

I plan on going back and playing the RE series from the beginning (I hopped on with 7) and wanted to know what side games I should play

My plan is
1 and 2 remakes, OG 3, whatever the best version of 4 is, 5-7 and maybe replay 8 on hard if I take long enough to play the others and feel like revisiting it again.
But what about games like code Veronica and stuff? Which ones are most important lore-wise or are just fun to play?

Code Veronica is some pretty cool stuff, tough but enjoyable. Also has shenanigans like crossdressing rich psychos and annoying Canadian teens who bug the main protagonist at every moment, alongside the trademark VA work. Most folks consider it the real RE4, even though I think it's just a numbered title without a number, like RE Village is really just RE8 but it's not called that.

0 I never liked. Too confusing, too gimmicky with it's two characters at once gameplay and the new enemies are annoying little shits. It's important to the lore because of how it leads directly to 1 at the end, but if you REALLY wanna play it grab it on steam.

Outbreak is fucking awesome, but you're gonna have to go through some hoops to get the game to work proper, considering the servers for it are gone. Great fun, especially since it's considered (and for good reason) the best RE co-op game.

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM OPERATION RACCOON CITY AND UMBRELLA CORPS. DO N O T PLAY THOSE TWO, YOU WILL SUFFER.

The Gun Survivor games can go die in a fire. Jank incarnate.

Revelations 1 and 2 have some pretty cool shit in it and act as nice interquels, but be warned for 2; SERIOUSLY jank mouse controls, it gets annoying and in the way of the fun.

I think that's about it, but a recommendation for 5 and 6: get a buddy for co-op. They will DRASTICALLY make those two more fun, aside from the "everything is fun with friends" rule. 5 especially, me and a friend had the time of our lives with that one. Prolly one of my favorite co-op games period.

Play 1,2,3 and CV, if you're used to the tank controls by then and not entirely put off then play 0, too, some people don't like it but I do and this is just my recommendation. The story is nice padding for the RE universe, the levels are pretty interesting and it's nice to see more Rebecca and Billy is cool.
If you get the chance to do it then play the Outbreak games, they're fun.
RE4 best version in my opinion is PS4 remaster but PC is also good, make sure it's the Ultimate HD edition. I recommend the PS4 version because it's got everything in it (I think) and the PC version because it's got mods. If you're just playing them once for the story then fuck it, who cares, play it on whatever you want but those two versions are the best.
5,6 and 7 you can just play whatever, there's not massive differences.

There isn't an Offline Campaign?

I would recommend playing the original 2 with the remake, its remake isn't as much as a straight upgrade as 1 is so it still stands on its own. Code Veronica has important stuff lore wise but has its share of problems, 0 tried to do something a little different with the gameplay but its just miserable so I haven't went back to them, that's how I feel on them anyway. 6 has good mechanics but everything else isn't great, you at least get mercenaries unlocked from the beginning. For side games I liked the light gun games at the time but haven't played them since their original releases.

E: Outbreaks are also great but that was with multiplayer, no idea about solo. I remember load times being long.

Just finished RE4 on professional. Incredible game, especially on mouse and keyboard. Playing it with a controller just feels wrong to me.
Also, I would highly recommend playing classic 2 and 3 with the seamless HD project.

Why would they? Only REmake, and the other 2 remakes are palatable to 90% of current audiences.

Well, they are pieces of gaming history that even normies would get curious over.

Too much work, too little shekels.

Would it really be too much work? Im sure there are fans willing to do it for freaking free if Capcom allowed it. There are remasters of RE 2 and 3 that look professional pretty much.

Normies don't care
