Brad Jones gave it a surprisingly positive review that makes me actually want to see it.

But eh, maybe I'll rent it.

Still, the fact that it's set in 1998 and actually made in the style of actual 1998 horror movies is kind of a clever idea.
I saw the movie for free and I still want some kind of monetary compensation.

Not optimistic at all about RE4 Remake, but i cant wait for the Boss Girl Ashley scenes "Im not some princess that needs to be protected Leon", the not so subtle homoerotic scenes between Leon and Luis, fuck, maybe even with Krauser, and the complete neutering of Mr Kennedy right here, taking away all the cheesy one liners in favor of "fuck fuck shit fuck jesus christ"

There is no way it'll be as good as the original

The Boss was voiced by Lori Alan, not Carolyn Lawrence.
Oh shit, my mistake.

It was this one.

It's a hollow victory. Constantin have been using RE as a kind of tax shelter or dodge. These movies aren't meant to make money, they just want to retain the rights.
I'm surprised they haven't tried rebooting The Never Ending Story (ahhhh ahhhh ahhhh ahhhhh)

He didn't say it was unironically good, just that from the perspective of it being a lost 1998 horror film, he was entertained.

Dont.give.them.ideas.

We already had two bad sequels, imagine what a woke reboot would entail!

Sometimes being forgotten by the mainstream is a blessing in disguise

How the fuck can you have a Resi 2 situation and not include Mr X.

Faithful to the source my ass.

But they reference Jill Sandwich!!! WE ARE COOL, DAMN YOU!

So I just saw Welcome to Raccoon City… I ENJOYED IT. I really did! I though they actually did a much better job with it then I was expecting. It’s not as narmy or action packed as the Milla resident evils, but they did some interesting shit with it!

The best part, the absolute best part was how they handled the zombies. They did a surprisingly SCARY job with them. Some of the early zombies act more like Chernobyl survivors. More panicked and confused than anything else. There’s a little bit of humanity in them and that makes it 10 times more disturbing.

It looks pretty budget from the trailers, but I thought they did a skillful job with what they had. It’s a tight movie but the script is decent. For better or worse you get a little bit of everything.

The characters: They nailed Chris, Claire was pretty good, Leon…. Isn’t really Leon but I liked his Woodstock ass. Jill isn’t much like her counterpart, but she’s an actually attractive black action chick.

Wesker… I enjoyed him! I really did, but he’s not Wesker! Lol They made him this oddly sympathetic and likable dude bro guy. It worked for me, especially for his scene in the lab.

This movie has a thing for taking characters and just going in odd but fun written way with them. Like Chief Irons! He’s this much more lovable “FUCK THIS SHIT!” kinda guy.
I also love how they just go nuts with the swearing and over the top dialogue, Like the S.T.A.R.S briefing where the team is giving each other shit and Irons is busting everybody’s balls.
Also loved how everyone already hates Umbrella for their shady business practices. “FUCK UMBRELLLLLA!”

The lore behind Raccoon being this small town that’s already in the process of being decommissioned was clearly a “we don’t have the budget to do more” moment, but it works surprisingly!

The mid credits ending! That ending! Oh my god I have never laughed so hard in a long while. That was the funniest scene in the movie! CGI FIRE zombie was great too!

I want to see more of this shit kewi’s. Do me a favor and give it a shot.

To expand upon my less concise thoughts. This movie for me was the perfect blend of fun, horror and stupid. It is a movie that knows exactly what it is, but at the same time its not so self aware that it doesn't deliver some genuinely effective scares and scenes.

The dialogue is all over the place in quality, the ending is ridiculous, but when things get going(and it doesn't take long) the monster encounters were played straight and I liked that a lot. It feels like a genuine RE movie in that regard.

The scene where Chris is alone in the mansion was fantastic, worth the ticket in the theater.
