I was hoping that Tyrant Inferiors would pop up from it. Waste of opportunity Capcom. They already referenced six in the end or Revelations 2.
Also the C-virus atleast was pretty cool... too bad it got such a shit game.

The cunt virus.I legit thought C stood for "Carla Virus"
Been a little while since I played Revelations 2 but I don't remember it referencing 6 in the main story, I do remember it referencing 5 when Barry says "it's showing symptoms of ouroboros, a virus encountered in Africa" though. They already referenced six in the end or Revelations 2.

Welcome to Raccoon City does seem way more faithful than any of the Jovovich movies, the main thing that bugs me is I hate it's casting of Jill (I fucking hate this climate of "can't have too many white people") and the omission of Barry is really strange, I agree it should have focused on the Spencer mansion for the first movie, then a sequel could be Leon and Claire at the RPD station and then a third movie adapting Code Veronica, that'd be perfect.Despite it's many and obvious flaws I liked Welcome to Raccoon City more than any of the other live action movies and the animated films don't even come close
I honestly just wish they had the foresight to use the smaller budget to just focus on the Spencer mansion and have a more intimate and horror centric movie but then again the games have only just start to get back to after a decade. Lisa Trevor would have made the perfect main antagonist for that kind of scenario if they wanted to cut out the more goofy stuff like Yawn etc.
Also of all the talk of the casting I thought that Neal McDonough was good as Birkin, he should have got more screen time and better material and Police Chief Irons was by far the most likeable and funny character in the entire film.
Despite this movie being a weird bastardization of the classic games, which is nothing new to the RE series, it is the first film to me that felt like a actual adaptation and it was refreshing after 5+(?) movies of that OC donut steal and when Claire stumbled upon the film reel of the Ashfords pulling the wings off the dragon fly, which was clear sequel baiting, I got excited and hope there will be a sequel if they decide to adapt CV for that alone. Looking at the box office though that is not going to happen anytime soon. By the end I did not expect to come out of this movie wanting to to boot up my gamecube and get comfy and play CV again.
I've heard that theory before, that Chris gets mega ripped in anticipation of fighting Wesker. You know, people judge Chris for having bulked himself up to an extreme degree in RE 5 but I think its subtle character developtment.
Let me explain.
RE CV had Chris pretty much get the shit kicked out of him by Wesker. He was faster, stronger and more resistant than a man could ever get. One punch was enough to nearly kill Chris and everytime they fought, it was the same thing, Wesker toying with Chris.
The only reason Chris survived Wesker at all was a combination of dumb luck and because Wesker felt like playing with his food first instead of just ramming his fist through Chris's chest. Chris was only able to force a draw by forcing Wesker to have to finish this fight off another day.
And I think people underestimate the sheer trauma this left on Chris. He realized that he, at his current state, couldnt even put a dent on Wesker and he also knew they would eventually meet again. So Chris literally bulked up his body as much as he could (at least without affecting his health) just so his punches could actually affect Wesker a bit better now. Wesker may be fast but when Chris did get a punch in, he would make sure he would feel it.
Its actually subtle storytelling and Im surprised how well this works in explaining his bigger form. I think we just needed to know the history of this series and his past with Wesker to understand why he would force his body to get so unnecessarily bulky. They could have used some dialogue with Sheeva to establish that but it would feel a tad awkward.
I like it as a way of showing Chris getting absolutely obsessed with Wesker to the point where everything in his life becomes geared towards finding and defeating him.You know, people judge Chris for having bulked himself up to an extreme degree in RE 5 but I think its subtle character developtment.

It also ties in with him unwittingly dropping an ally to his death in Revelations. Being able to dead lift the approximate weight of a small Manor means no more friends killed by fiery drops.
And for the increasingly bonkers plot it could have been fun if it was revealed that everything went beyond Wesker's control at some point and he realizes this but plays it off as if everything going to hell in a hand basket is part of his master plan. Behind the scenes he could have desperately tried to stuff that genie back into the bottle so he could return to his original plan. I'm not suggesting a sappy "it wasn't meant to be like this" type of ending for him but surely he knew where things were heading after 5.
Would he have been able to defeat Wesker through the power of boulder-punching had he not put on all that muscle mass? Checkmate, haters.I've heard that theory before, that Chris gets mega ripped in anticipation of fighting Wesker.
Now I just want an RE game by Platinum.Would he have been able to defeat Wesker through the power of boulder-punching had he not put on all that muscle mass? Checkmate, haters.
Keep in mind he also managed to keep his hand intact despite multiple full-strength blows with a closed fist, so clearly there was some major endurance training in there as well.
It actually really bothers me how different Chris looks in 7 because it creates a huge continuity flaw, to the degree that I wish Capcom would actually patch the game. Its so bizzare that people hated this design for the longest time and yet when they changed it in RE 7, people said "#notmychris" and Capcom made Chris look akin to his old look in 8. For better or worse, we just kind of gotten used to it and its the one that just stuck around, including in spin offs like Marvel Vs Capcom...it just kind of became the design that would stick around with a character that had an issue of not having an ever consistent design through the entries.
Why was he confronting Spencer in the first place? I feel like in the original version of RE4 since he was still part of the H.C.F it was to capture something, maybe a sample of Progenitor, in RE5 though it's not really even clear why he confronts him unless I missed something.Like I said, the Spencer reveal broke him and becoming a god became his goal just so he could steal Spencer's life long "dream". In a way, Spencer beat Wesker by messing him up mentally enough for him to get sloopy and come up with an insane plot like this that would get him killed (long shot, I know but know these two, I wouldnt be surprised if Im onto something).
Their stated reason was that he looked way too unnatural now that they used digitized actors. It actually really bothers me how different Chris looks in 7 because it creates a huge continuity flaw, to the degree that I wish Capcom would actually patch the game.
Muscle mass aside he didn't look anything like Chris in the face either, it just makes zero sense, it wouldn't be so bad if all we saw was a glimpse of him at the end but the fact that he's the focus of Not a Hero, which is a major part of the story, just sucks.

Considering RE7 is suppose to be a soft reboot, the different look is intentional. It actually really bothers me how different Chris looks in 7 because it creates a huge continuity flaw, to the degree that I wish Capcom would actually patch the game.
Which is why I think it's fine to pick and choose whatever prior to 7 you consider canon or not.Considering RE7 is suppose to be a soft reboot, the different look is intentional.
6 six should definitely get memory holed. My main gripe is the virus/mutations going worldwide. I like it best when it is a lurking threat that nutjobs are trying to make into a weapon, similar to how corps simply cannot give up their desire to genetically mess with those dangerous, dangerous xenomorphs.Which is why I think it's fine to pick and choose whatever prior to 7 you consider canon or not.
Like I said you have the prime timeline which is all the classic games ending with Zero and the Outbreak games, then when it comes to 7, although I don't like it, I do still consider 5 canon, I also consider 2 and 3 remakes to be the canon version of events in the backstory of 7 because it makes it more tonally and stylistically consistent and finally 6 is firmly in "it never happened" territory.
Umbrella Chronicles is in weird territory, some of what's in the game I consider to be basically canon like the final scenario, except for things that are retellings of events instead of something new or a new perspective.
More or less. There were three cruise ships. Of course, the ending of that game is the FBC chief was caught colluding with the terrorists to justify his own organization's existence, so I'm reluctant to say that it's all that self-contained.Revelations 1 was largely on cruise ship, right? That setting makes sense for some very unethical testing on humans. Cut all communication, spread the virus, see what happens and then just sink the ship. It can be controlled.
The heart of the series is stalking around creepy, isolated, claustrophobic locales, yeah the stakes are world impacting, but the globe trotting and large scale action of 6 is the complete opposite of what the series is all about.6 six should definitely get memory holed. 1-3 took place in or around Raccoon City, a pretty self-contained setting and nuking it was an efficient way to put a lid on those events even if it would raise a lot of questions from the public.
Code Veronica: weird island and antarctica, self-contained.
RE4: Old weirdo cult with a bug, not currently using it for Catalonian world domination.
RE5: Weird unethical medical shit happened in darkest Africa, maybe one day there will be a Guardian article about it.
RE6: faaart
RE7: Perfectly fine.

Yeah, it was pretty cool, but one thing that really brings 5 down is how completely generic most of the environments are, totally generic African city, generic outdoors areas, generic oil facility, generic industrial lab and generic boat, it's so terrible.Unpopular opinion: I actually like Tri-Cell's logo to Neo Umbrella's. It's a rebranding that references Umbrella, but isn't it exactly, much like how Tarvos Security Services references Belltower Associates. It's something that 5 actually gets right.
I agree. What I meant with 1-2-3 was that it was an environment they could sacrifice(nuke) to establish how seriously this threat must be taken and how it needs to be pulled up by the root and burnt before it spreads. From this alternative story perspective many other games makes sense. CV can unfold as it did, instead of the RE4 hook being the presidents daughter it could be a vague lead that Leon is checking out, RE5 was obviously more serious so Buff Chris gets sent to take a look. RE7 would be a good example of how they would arrive to contain and clean a zone before it spreads further.2 and 3 mix it up a bit with the city environments, but most of your time in 2 is in the police station which feels claustrophobic because you're surrounded by zombies outside, 3 is the classic game that departs the most from the basic formula, but you're still only in Racoon city, you're still on streets clogged with debris and wreckage and it still feels plenty isolated and claustrophobic in it's own way, again, you're not globe trotting.
