I enjoyed the Shadows of Rose DLC for what it was, but couldn't help being disappointed that they didn't bother squeezing in the lords at all. I would've gladly taken them reappearing once more and interacting with Rose over just doing a rehash of the Miranda boss fight.

I know I go on about the lords a lot, but they were seriously my favorite part of the game. Too bad I'm not interested in Mercenaries.
I just finished the DLC too, but I am surprised how short that ultimately was. I thought we would get some teaser material for next game, or more answers than what we got, or just some more of Rose in general. I guess I was asking for too much but after a year and a $20 price tag, I would've liked more than just 2-3 hour campaign and some Mercenaries stuff. Also, fuck those dolls.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=eUBJSSLcIJYIt must've been a bitch to fit Resident Evil 2 (a PS1 game with 2 CDs) onto a 64MB Nintendo 64 cartridge.
Here's a good video that goes through the black magic.

Capcom had to basically invent an entirely new kind of file compression to get the whole game on the whole game on the cartridge, and they still had to cut out all of the FMVs. It was worth it though; by all accounts, the N64 version is the superior version.
Everything in this post is wrong.

Capcom (or I should say Angel Studios), basically had to create their own file compression codec to fit everything, so that part is true. I forgot that it was Nightmare Creatures that had to cut all its FMVs out of get on the N64, not RE2, which was able to compress them. But N64 is, by all accounts, the superior version.

Fair enough, for some reason I was thinking of audio compression which was done by a third party. I think the only thing the 64 version is superior over the PS1 (if that's what we're comparing here) with is the randomizer, which is pretty good to have built in instead of waiting 20 odd years later for autists to make for the PC version. Not having to disc swap is cool, but it was never a big deal and not worth the quality difference in image and sound. I played on both when I was a kid and noticed the difference. It's still RE2 though, which is great on everything except the game.com.

In addition to that, the N64 did have hardware to play video and why would it? It's a cartridge system!

One really impressive game that also didn't use a hardware decoder was The 7th Guest, the programmer, Graeme Devine then went on to work at id. Seriously, 7th Guest still looks clean because other than the ghosts it's not prerendered video as we know it or as seen in Rebel Assault(released the same year).

Didn't Capcom say this DLC was the end of the Winters' storyline? Seems crazy to me if RE8 isn't going to star Rose, I think they have gotten cold feet about whatever the original plan was going to be and might just be writing Rose off as a whole. I'm guessing RE8 will probably just be another shitty Chris game now where he punches his former employers for making Bioweapons.
It was borderline programming magic that we witnessed with this port.
It was fascinating, those devs deserve an award.

Krauser is confirmed to be in RE4 remake.

The dlc for RE7 was much more fun and a far better package.

You mean RE9. Village was number 8. Yes, I had to look it up myself just to be sure. I don't blame you for forgetting another game existed. I knew there was something between punching a boulder in an African volcano and Louisiana but I couldn't remember what for a second, and I was infinitely happier before I did remember.

They planned those DLC in advance. The popularity of 8 and the thirst posting caught them by surprise and they scrambled to put anything out. I guess they didn't have anything planned was because 8 was supposed to be Rev 3 and brought up as a mainline entry.

For whatever reason images of any sort aren't working for me right now, so all I can say to that in response is "Virgin Vampire Wine Mom vs Chad Magnetic Lebowski".

Yeah but RE8's popularity was off the hinges right at the first trailer reveal. They had a solid 2 years to put something together.

I guess now that I think about it, it did seem like they were really struggling to find something interesting about Rose to put forward here and it didn't go so hot. I don't blame them for wanting to sweep her under the rug until they can find something interesting for her to do. Oh well, I hope Capcom gives Resident Evil some time in the oven after the RE4 remake.

Not like Capcom to introduce a character and never mention them again. I'm still suprised Ethan featured in two games.

I was really happy that 7 introduced some new blood into the series, and wasn't terribly thrilled that Ethan returned for 8. If 9 has a brand new protagonist again I will be happy with that. So long as it isn't another action romp as geriatric Chris Redfield, punching his way to his next Doctor's appointment and killing his friend's spouses but not telling them why for some reason.

They never brought Billy back from RE0 or even really referred to him (if YouTube is to believed, I haven't finished a mainline entry past RE4). He's my favorite aside from Leon so it kinda sucks.

The Ada DLC is still only in my dreams.

An interesting little development with RE8 and the Mac, believe it or not.

So, back at WWDC, Apple and Capcom announced that RE8 would be coming to the Mac later this year, and would be using Metal3's MetalFX upscaling to run at 1080p, 30 fps on base M1 MacBook Airs.

Capcom would reaffirm the Mac RE8 at TGS, and Apple would be at Capcom's RE showcase announcing a release date, October 28, with the DLC to come later.

It hit the Mac App Store and became the top selling Mac game 2 days later, and reviews have been actually quite positive.

Digital Foundry's supposed to be releasing their look at it soon.
