For myself I always liked the remake of the original Resident Evil. Growing up I recognized it took itself serious enough to be a good survival horror, but it did have it's lighthearted moments like the Jill-Sandwich or Carols trying to hit on Jill in Nemesis. So it was refreshing to have a revisit to was both familiar and fresh at the same time.

While I loved the intro for the remake of the second game, it felt different. Like gone were the puzzle but here are more jump scares! Don't get me wrong, I think a good jump scare works great in horror games, but it felt like it replaced the more familiar puzzle solving that made the games for me. Now it comes across as one of those games your parents who didn't play games will always comment, "it looks like a movie! Doesn't that look a movie?" The remake of Resident Evil 3 only proved my point in being a disappointment.
Outside of the first remake, which was a blast for the fans, the other ones are clearly made for non-resident evil fans. The devs knew that taking the soul and much of the content of the games would not go well, but they went thru with it anyways because fans aren't their main audience anymore.
I think Capcom wrote themselves into another corner again. Ethan's arc is over, so what will the next game be about? The kid, like the DLC/ending hinted at? Will it still be in first person or third? The only thing I am getting from 8 and REmake of 4 is that there is an identity crisis going on, neither game really knows what it really wants to be. Even 6 had the air of confidence to it, problem was that it didn't stick to the landing, 8 and REmake 4 just feel confused.
I think making the likes of Sphere Troon the unofficial spokesman for the franchise in the west was a mistake, now I don't even want to pay attention to the new games anymore.

REmake imo does everything the original sets out to do but far better without stepping backward like all the last trilogy of remakes has been whether cut content or just mechanics being shit.

It's probably the last game of the series that was "scary." I was still a teen when this came out and the zombies were so threatening, and Crimson Heads it was nerve-racking to play.

The first time I saw a Crimson Head come around a corner that I didn't think reanimated yet made me literally holler.

This is the best thread to ask: Ross of Accursed Farms made a video on a (rather hilarious) Resident Evil clone for a Halloween special, and I'm in the mood. Are there any good knock offs? I know about Dino Crisis 1, what about the others?

I know you're asking game related but I always dug these fan films since they're so low budget and low effort.

They crowd funded a few grand to revisit this a few months ago with it remake inspired and it's pretty good. Only goes as far as the Village fight for right now.

Obscure game series for the PS2, Kuon for PS2, Cold Fear, Rule of Roses, Deep Fear, Soul of Samurai

I know of Obscure(I might own a copy, but I would have to look) and heard of Cold Fear(supposed to be good but literally every closet has a monster in it, which gets old). Rule of Roses is rather infamous and not sure the gameplay side of it looks fun, what about the other ones?

Finished RE4:R on Hardcore and had a good time. Tried Mercenaries, pretty fun if you're into arcade like myself. But the theme for Wesker was really lackluster to say the least. The only positive thing was the intro IMO, it's amazing and they should've incorporated the RE5 Wesker theme with it. What a waste.
Aside from that, the Mercenaries intro and Character selection is a banger.

If you're into it or just morbidly curious, there's a Kamen Rider game that's basically designed like a Resident Evil clone that a bunch of YouTubers were talking about a little while back.

Kamen Rider: Genealogy of Justice / Kamen Rider: Seigi no Keifu, if you want to check it out.

Fear effect 2, obscure 1, cold fear for lesser known ones. If we stretch the survival horror meaning then you have rule of rose, clock tower 3 and haunting ground. Alone in the dark the new nightmare is okay. D2 and illbleed on the dreamcast are bizarre titles. More recently you havw Signalis which is fantastic and nails every aspect of its presentation and Tormented Souls which plays it a bit more of a straight RE1 clone.

I think the Mercs mode is pretty good but I still think OG RE4 mercs and RE5 definitely are still better.

The thing that bugs me the most is the fucking enemies teleporting behind you.

if you are ok with RPG Maker games, there's Doreamon x Resident Evil game series.

only 1 is translated to English and the rest are still in Japanese or translated to non-English languages.
1 so far is almost beat for beat RE1,

Kamen Rider always fascinated me. The show looked interesting and I wanted to get into it years ago, there being a whole heap of KR gamers that never made it into the states helped. Didn't know there was a RE clone, will check it out

What a weird crossover, was there anything that alluded to RE in the show?

If we're talking about fanmade Resident Evil crossover games, there is one for Tomb Raider.

A good example on how a good portion of this game is complete RNG and not skill based.

I saw quite a few of his attempts when he was streaming it and the amount of times knife prompts would just not function was comical. Like a 7/10 fail rate and he's hitting it as soon as it would appear and it would even linger.

I’m just glad Resident Evil 9 won’t be about Ethan Winters and the daughter. Hopefully it will be 3rd person or at least have a 3rd person mode. Maybe I’d actually like 7 if they went back and added a 3rd person mode to the current gen update.
