RE7 has grown on me, but they really jumped the shark with the sequel with the whole storybook theme bullshit and stupid monsters top to bottom.
Series ended with RE6 for me.

Lady D was blatant coomer bait same with her daughters, werewolves are something I expect to fight in Castlevania, Moroaica were wannabe zombies, Soldats were Dead Island Thugs, and Magnetic Lebowski seemed like a watered down Devil May Cry villain.

I honestly don't know what theme they were going with, but European fairy tail it ain't.

So usual grifter dusk golem has claimed that re9 will be open world.
If true, holy fucking shit lmao. That’s a horrible idea. Resident evil only works as a linear game. You can’t make an open world resident evil. Probably not true though because this dude is a huge flip-flopper and bullshitter, and people still call him “reputable”.
RE speedrunner/streamer Bawkbasoup said this a year ago, alongside that he 'thinks' the protagonist will be Jill.

Not saying he's in the know or anything (He probably is), but Dusk Golem regurgitating stuff other leakers/insiders have said already is nothing new.

Source - seems to trip over himself when it comes to his 'predictions'.

I’m pretty sure dusk golem at one point said there were no resident evil games in development, then he said there’s 5. But never a source. Just “believe dusk golem”. Yeah, ok.

Not counting a couple spinoffs, I stopped playing after 6 as it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I only saw gameplay footage of 7, 8 and such and they're still not doing it for me

If the game is going open world, does anyone really trust nu-Capcom with this? If they fucked up the "oldschool" horror with 8 and fucked up...most things with RE4 Remake, what chance does something like this have? Granted, I think Dead Rising 3 did well in going true open world, but even I will admit that it lost a lot of identity in the process. What sort of identity does nu-Resident Evil even have? The remakes, past the first one, are as soulless as they get and the whole mold arc felt like another franchise altogether. RE6 and Revelations 2 were the last true Resident Evil games, for better or worse, and I don't see the new ESG Capcom either going back to what made the franchise great or trying to create anything new that's good.

I dont think the next RE needs to be open world, but I can get down with it if its like Monster Hunter like. There's merit in making it like Monster Hunter, though it can remove the open world and more like mission based. I mean, there was Lost Planet 2, and it was fun, and the bosses are like giant RE final bosses. just make it more RE and it will be golden.

though they need to switch REngine to a new and less retarded engine. this engine is really bad and easy to exploit

Don't try to get me interested again
Seven was really fun until you got to the ship. The ship sucked. Do you know what a non-cruise ship looks like on the inside? Drab, square, full of boring stairs and slightly confusing because everything looks the same. I stopped playing it for almost exactly two years(according to my last save I was maybe 2 days off). The ending was pretty decent in that they went big with it.

Nah REmake4 is solid. Not a perfect game by any stretch, it didn't reinvent third person shooters like RE4 essentially did with the over the shoulder camera, but it's mechanically a satisfying game with lots of nice details.

I feel like how Castlevania split between "Classicvania" and "Metroidvania" Resident Evil should just do the same thing. One team does a game that hearkens back to the original design of exploring a Fortress and discovering the secrets, and then in a couple years do a big bombastic RE4/RE5 action game.

You're right it's not happening thanks to ESG Capcom, but if I were in charge I'd greenlight the Code Veronica Remake and then follow it up with Resident Evil 5: TND in 4K.

As for an Open World Resident Evil, I just don't think such a game design will ever work in even a light horror genre. Resident Evil has always been about tight design.

what if the open world game would be a burning city? that's the only thing i could see work.
the problem is that without entering a lot of the buildings it would be stale af.

They should continue the monster theme and make a game set in an egyptian pyramid with mummy monsters etc and an undead pharao.

They already have zombies, vampires, werwolves, sea creatures, giant amphibians, a sentient leech that thinks it's a human, lovecraftian horrors etc. so where is the good old mummy?

Come on Capcom!

It just dawned upon me that Nemesis/Mr. X is Resident Evil's equivalent to Frankenstein's Monster.

Please stop. I just said that I've given all hope for the series therefore I am not interested. Anyway...

play 7 and 8 theyre good
8 has some good spots and some weaker ones, it's decent. What baffles me is how they could get the castle section so wrong, it felt rushed and unfinished.
Play resident evil gaiden on the gameboy it's good.
Yes, do that. Then play the original RE2Make - the one on the Game.com

RE7 feels like a game that I'll never go back to. It feels like the pinnacle of "cinematic experience" games.

started playing resident evil 6 again with the intent of seeing it through to the end it just doesn't feel like a resident evil game though, more of an action game. I yearn for the return of the tank control, fixed angle games, could probably shit a ton out of them out now.
