I thought RE7 was alright as the experimental game that it was but the unskippable in game cutscenes were annoying and there wasn't much variety in the enemies, also the intro was too long. RE8 didn't feel like it had anything to do with the series though, it was like a tour of some generic spooky theme park but with magneto and it didn't scratch my zombie shooting itch at all, in fact it just poured shredded fiberglass on it.

Parasite Eve has the superior Giant Enemy Crab boss before he was even a meme. Hell, you fight him twice! It even has tank controls!

(I am actually trying to be helpful here, it's disturbing.)

i dont like 7 and 8, I have an eye condition where my one eye is bigger than the other so I can't play FPS games with a certain FOV. and RE7 and 8 are FPS, so I cant play them and I dont like them.

anyway, I can agree that there is some sort of zen for the game design of RE 1 - 3, heck I would even include the REmakes (fuck Inferno mode for RE3 though). there is something satisfying and it is great for replaying the games because they are very short you can finish it under 2 hours of gameplay. it is something lost to the new RE games

I dunno, there is something in the new RE games that make it hard for me to replay it, I only replay 4 once, as a revenge with max upgraded weapons, with 5 and 6, i played Mercenaries mode more than the main game itself. I think 7 and 8 were designed to be played only once.

If there is a new mainline RE game, I wish it would be like REmake 2 length, probably with at least 2 protagonists. but I'm also down with a Lost Planet 2/Monster Hunter like RE game.

Nah REmake4 is solid. Not a perfect game by any stretch, it didn't reinvent third person shooters like RE4 essentially did with the over the shoulder camera, but it's mechanically a satisfying game with lots of nice details.
Problem with RE4 Remake starts with it's lack of identity: It is a REMAKE 2/3 mod wearing the skin of RE4. Of course the comparisons will be inevitable, and most of these the remake will lose. Even graphics aren't better since RE4 got a kickass HD mod that makes the game gorgeous even today.

RE4 Remake is inferior to the original, but I wouldn't argue that it's bad: It plays completely differently than the OG title so you can't really compare the two fairly. Oh sure, you got the same enemies and the same locations, but the moment to moment gameplay is completely different, so it's about as moot as comparing RE2 with it's tanky controls and fixed camera angles with the remake. What does matter is that the shared content is worse in the Remake and there is plenty of it cut out for no good reason, not to mention the new content is lukewarm to downright bad, just compare Ada's performance between the two games. This is all ignoring the modern state of Capcom, disgusting DLC for a game that originally had none, woke elements rearing their ugly head and the game feeling like it shouldn't really exist in the first place: RE4 is accessible on pretty much every piece of hardware released since 6th gen, even phones. If you're not going to give players a reason to buy it again for 70$ plus DLC, why should you? They would have been a lot better off giving us the Castle beta with the hook man, now that we have the technology to make it possible.
Crowbcat made a good comparison of the games(which got him shit on), on how the remake just feels soulless.

At the end of the day, both games have enough differences to warrant at least one playthrough, but most people will prefer the original. They will also relentlessly compare the new title to the original because that's exactly what this remake warrants. The game will lose that fight almost every single time and it has nobody to blame but itself for it. I don't really like RE8 either but I don't generally talk about it because it's a separate entry that tries doing it's own thing: It's not for me but I know there are people out there who like it. It does not try to skinwalk any other games in the franchise, altho there is heavy influence from RE4 as well. Influence is the key word, it doesn't try to cut it's skin and wear it like the remake, it adds sections similar to what you would see in that game and then continues doing it's own thing. You can't knock it down for that when maybe 90% of the content in game is original, while with the remake that number is flipped.

Seriously, what part of a simple phrase "I don't care about the franchise" do you not understand? I'm not coming back to it, that's it. It's over. Pure and simple. Go ahead and enjoy your RE games, I'm not coming back to them
Come on, you'll love RE4 Remake.
It'll make you want to chill.
Seriously though, why are you still here ?

I wouldn't mind a RE Operation Raccoon City 2.
The multiplayer resident evil games are disappointing because at the very least their a novel concept. ORC and UC both center around 2 squads with zombie ai in the middle and I feel like that could make for a really interesting game if they weren't shit, ORC has classes for sneaking past the AI, lure grenades and human shield on zombies, UC has tanks on everyone's back and if you get shot there the ai aggros you.

The concept is there but the execution is just so incredibly broken, the only half way decent pvp we have for RE (aside from REsistance because I know people did enjoy that before the dlc) is 5 and 6's versus modes but they have their own issues, far more playable but theyre both centered around timed modes which just results in a lot of gaining the lead then running off to hide.
