Nemesis is barely in the game lol. He's like 50% a cutscene. Jill is fucking awful with her boss bitch bullshit and Carlos, while much better, is made to be a cuckold to her. Tyrell is only better because the cast is small and we needed someone else in the fray. Nicolai with his celery stalk head and is even more cartoonish Russian and evil than the original, and I can't take it seriously at all.

The game world is just as awful as the characterization. As small as the game world is in the original, it never felt tiny. It felt like you were constantly going through the same areas with new shit to do for some time. I think doorloads can play into the game length, but even watch the game played with doorskip still makes it feel longer than this. Reusing Lickers, and not having Brain Suckers, Spiders etc is some real lazy shit.

I remember how hard to defenders on GameFAGS were shilling this piece of shit like it was a vast improvement over the original.

played it, completed it and don't think I'll ever go back to it, whereas with the original I can always pick it up from time to time.

The original is a short game, but I've always found it as the most fun to play of all the fixed camera games and even over REmake. Jill's responsiveness speed I feel was perfected in this control scheme. Her run speed. Her drawing the gun. Quickturn.

It's more action than horror, but so is RE4 and that doesn't stop it from being a great game.

I don't even know how or why they half-assed the RE3 remake while keeping the RE2 remake as faithful to the original as possible. RE3 should have been a lot easier to get right considering it's a much shorter game that takes place in a much smaller scale. Why they cut half the content the original had is beyond me.

It would have been (slightly more) tolerable if they hadn't sold it as a full priced game. If they had released it as it actually is, which is glorified expansion/DLC for REmake2, less people, including myself, wouldn't have been (as) furious with it. Instead we got a tremendous turd of a game that feels like a borderline palette swap sold for $79 or whatever. They had a giant opportunity to expand on the original and open the city up to exploration, all while being hunted by one gaming's greatest villains and they fucked it up out of greed and laziness.

Truly a giant missed opportunity.

I swear the game is like 50% cutscenes. I guess I'm a bit resentful since RE3 is my favorite "classic" RE game aside from Code Veronica and they completely butchered it, yet the game before it and the game after it got solid remakes.

Now I'm completely mixed about whether they should touch Code Veronica or not.
 
re3 turned out the way it did because the engine was already done so budget was lower, they wanted to release it with REsistence and it has a strict deadline to not overlap with village's release.

The games a bit short and very linear but as a game its pretty good, has some of the best boss fights in the series (which isnt saying much since even the good ones dont have good bosses) and a benefits from its linearity with very tight resource balancing.

I believe you're more or less completely correct on this. Capcom had essentially painted themselves into a corner and they knew it. They tried bundling it with a shit Dead by Daylight knock-off and hoped fans would forget about the slapdash job 3make got and focus on a game nobody wanted or cared about.

Hard disagree here. I'd argue that 3makes bosses are some of the most uninspired and boring in the series. Nemesis is a joke, his dog form is utterly lame and his final form is only really a problem on the last two difficulties. And even then, they're not actually challenging, just horrendously tedious.

Sometimes the game felt so linear that I half expected it to become an on-rails shooter. Managing resources wasn't ever really a problem as dodging was usually a better solution to fighting, or using those batteries scattered about.

Weren't there any important details Capcom cut out in the RE3make?
 
I dont think there's any important details cut out in REmake3, but a lot of things they did doesn't make any sense.

why does Brad know about Nemesis, when you can see the Nemesis' container is dropped just at the back of Jill's building? why does the game feel like the outbreak is just happening at 28 when the outbreak happened at Sept 23 and peaked at 26 (even by REmake 2 RPD files)? why does Jill feel like a tourist on her own city? they remake the game to be serious and "more realistic" but they still call it "vaccine", vaccine doesn't cure anything! they should call it cure!

as for the mechanics, I think some of the parts in REmake3 were good, but some of them didnt work out. I like Carlos' hospital segment way more than the original and more than I should have, I like the boss fights compared to REmake2. i dont like the rewards from fighting nemesis (the shotgun was removed here and was put in REmake4, travesty!!!) I don't like the grenade launcher here. I dont like how the 5.56 rifle sounds like wet fart being fired, I feel like the critical dodge could have been implemented better, FUCK THE INFERNO MODE!!! and I dont like that there's no Mercenaries mode. also while I like the pace of the game way better than REmake2, I don't like that the opening sequence takes 10 minutes from the start of the game to the train station (skipping cutscenes) in Remake2, it usually takes 3 minutes from the gas station to the RPD (skipping cutscenes), it makes replaying 3 such a chore
 
So I won some Capcom sweepstakes for a RE4 remake collector’s edition and I’m gonna try to play the 2 and 3 remakes before it arrives to prepare.

I played 2 when it came out going Leon>Claire-2nd so I’ll probably do Claire(>maybe Leon-2nd) and then finally play through the 3 remake after buying it at some point but never playing it.

How does the 4 remake play? Is it closer to the original RE4 or the remakes? I never finished the original at the time because I didn’t like the constant pressure of the enemies, but with the RE2 remake at least I never felt trapped by X or the zombies.

How about Nemesis in 3? I’ve read he’s different from the original but I never even finished that and haven’t played it in a quarter century. Is he similar to X in the 2 remake? If I take too long with 2, is the 3 remake even worth playing before I start 4?

If you felt like the original RE4 was too fast past you are really not going to like the remake.

He's a cameo in his own game. There's no strategy needed to contend with him. Hit him with a grenade and leave the area. You spend half the "encounters" inside cutscenes and you just press up to win.

This is a problem with all 3 new REmakes they retcon so much they may as well be their own continuity.

Well, yeah. That's what Capcom was going for with RE7, a soft reboot. I think they also retconned the Nemesis parasite to be plagas related.

The way I see this going is that there's basically going to be two different Resident Evil games series being made concurrently.

Remakes that follow the original continuity

And new games that follow the post Re7 continuity

I think that if RE5 gets a remake they're going to retcon things to fit in with the RE7 continuity.

RE1 is suppose to be getting a remake as well according to rumors. I dread to think what they'd fuck with if the rumors are true.
