Who cares, the stories have always been retarded, just as long as they don't go full retard and it's perfectly serviceable.
They're never deep, usually just a villain of the week arc with the connecting thread being bio terrorism. But 0 is a stand out where I don't get how it made it past the concept phase.
They really don't give a fuck about Billy though do they?
He either got eaten in the mountains that night or he fucked off to bermuda. He has no reason to show up again.
The series has the recurrent thing where many side characters, even main characters, are never heard from again outside of their debut appearance. I guess Im old enough to understand it might be better off this way instead of artificially bringing back characters who just dont have a role to naturally play.
Like who? Jake and Helena can be reused, they're both solid likeable characters. Piers' is referenced in Death Island. I don't see the Dead Aim characters ever making a return. Carlos could show up again I guess. I don't wanna see anymore baby winters, the dlc is my least favorite piece of RE media after 0.
Ironically bringing Claire back constantly only highlights how she doesnt fit in with modern RE anymore since she isnt a highly trained agent or soldier, she is just a skilled civilian with loads of experience with BOWs (and luck). She fits in classic RE but she does feel oddly out of place in modern RE (revelations 2 was a decent middle ground).
Claire's a rare show for the series she's only in 3 games. Also she's trained by Chris a member of STARS. She's also not a willing party in Rev 2, she's kidnapped and forced into the situation because while not in active combat it makes sense that she's still participating in anti bio-terrorism charity work just like Rebecca has focused her medicaltalents on the issue. While RE isn't good writing by any means the characters are likeable.

Even the instruments sound embarassed for playing this.

Lol, what? The former felt more like a lite Devil may Cry character and the latter was a pretty forgettable main lead that just had basic "revenge against the bad guy" quest without much else going for her outside she unwillingly started the outbreak in Leon's side of the plot. Nvm her debut was in RE 6.

Pier is only referenced because he was the only unironically good addition from 6 (but of course that one is killed off). The franchise still does everything it can to keep connections to RE6 as little as possible.

That was my point, some of these characters completed their arcs and are helping out behind the scenes. Claire found her brother and has no need to keep running around gunning down BOWs unless she must to (seems like everytime she did so beyond C.V, it was really forced upon her like the Airport outbreak and REV 2)

Rebecca really was the least combat focused member of STARS as a whole, she was just the medic so it makes sense she focused on that instead of anything physical or direct.

But for most other characters, ehh, they dont give a reason for them to not come back but it really feels unlikely at this point unless they are reaaaally wishing to bank on nostalgia (which they are but not at the point of bringing characters from the past back after so long).

This song never ceases to make me smile, especially when I am not expecting to hear it. It's just so ludicrously clownish... it's the peak of songs both trying to be bad and ones unintentionally bad. My favorite songs in the world do not have the same effect of just instantly making me giggle like an idiot. Thank you, weird scam artist Capcom composer... you've inadvertently made something that brings me joy. This guy also nailed it with the recreation - it's somehow even funnier when you're seeing the discordant horns in real time.

He felt like a nerfed Wesker in a series with re4 leon a character who does double back flips on demand to avoid steel girders getting chucked at him at 100mph. And Wesker was weskin' all the way back in code veronica.

Helena did not start the outbreak, she made the president unattended unwittingly framing herself and Leon for his death, the zombies would've been unleashed regardless. Revenge is her motivation but it's not her character. My only complaint is that she's basically Angela Miller from Degeneration again, even has the same voice actor but most people won't know who that is anyway.

Zero is unsalvageable as both a game and a remake. I would truly be shocked they dumped money into pursuing a game no one liked where as clunky as CVX is, it's beloved.
Didn't stop them from trying to make this trashfire be a thing:

Capcom are more than happy to drag up the corpses of old characters. The latest game is already doing it with outbreak ones. Now they've run out of good/popular remakes they're going to start digging into the back catalog. How many do you think they will race swap or have a half black kid from?

I skipped this one but my understanding is it was good for like a month until the dlc characters came out. I knew 3 different people who were really into it and they all said the same thing. Something about the 2 characters they added made you have to play in a really unfun way.

Zero should have been about random people instead of Rebecca.
Billy and some other random police chick woukd have made more sense.

Also if Capcom really wanted they could bring him back. Just say he got caught trying to flee the country and since he proved to be good at fighting bows, he got offered a similar deal to what Leon did.

I liked the dynamic both he and Rebecca shared, but I feel like he would be too similar to what modern Chris or Leon are.

I don’t mind Rebecca popping up in Zero, but then Capcom goes, “oh actually this happens an Uber ride away from the mansion” and just shoehorns Enrico in, dude’s just there to remind you this is Resident Evil 0 in case you forgot. And Rebecca fights a Tyrant before Jill and Chris? Come on man.

The only part of the game that felt like it had a pulse was the train.

Isn't Rebecca a 16 year old with two PhDs or whatever when the first game/0 takes place? She was always an unrealistic character, this mary sue bullshit actually fits her. Or at least isn't anymore retarded than other moments when the franchise jumps the shark, like for example "boulder punching".

The game starts strong but then it does not know what the fuck it wants to do.
The Tyrant per se is not the problem. It makes sense that 0 is about encountering bows that were considered failures and rejects and the whole game is mostly about introducing James Marcus as an antagonist, but the whole execution is shit. Locations too are mostly boring and inconsequential.

She was 18 with a degree in chemistry I think, but thats nothing out of the ordinary for the start of the series. Jill and Chris' background is even more unrealistic.

Every time they drop some RE lore like “Jill was top of her class at MIT and also a concert pianist” it’s this hilarious little wink that you’re not in America, you’re in the Lynchian dream of some Asian tiger mom.

They already did that with RE: Outbreak 1 & 2.

Jill is one of the few characters where I prefer S.D. Perry's version of her past instead of the official one.

Outbreak is nothing like a classic RE.
What I meant though is people unrelated to stars. So Billy and some other new normal police chick.
Rebecca being in 0 just precludes too many things from happening in the story.
It is like those prequels made about a character you know everything about, after the main story is already over. Cant take too many liberties because everything is already set in stone.

lol whut? Outbreak had regular people in it trying to survive the outbreak in Racoon City. I don't know where you're getting that Outbreak wasn't classic RE, are you sure you're not confusing it for another spin-off game?

Has anybody brought up the new mobile game? Yeah I know, but I thought it was kinda interesting

The concept is very alt history fanfic. Some dude has wi-fi in Raccoon City and is able to link up all the RE hero's together and coordinate with them like he's discount Lelouch. It looks neat and I do like how they brought over a lot of people from Square Enix, but.... This doesn't look like something that's going to last more then 2 years. Also everybody is rooming together in the mansion for some stupid reason instead of leaving. Presumably the infection is 20 times worse to compensate for everyone being badass.

I dont even think the gameplay looks that bad, im just tired of this shit that forces me to do math if I want to keep playing without paying a dime.

It is an online/coop title first and foremost, with features that are unique to it, like the infection meter, hiding and walking while aiming.
Sure it is similar enough to classic RE but pretty different in its own right.
My ideal Re0 would just be Billy and a rookie police officer who is not Rebecca.
It is not like Capcom has never reused a similar concept twice. They made 3 titles based on the same basic plot elements in the ps2 era.
