Silent hill 4 is the only one where the town is a back-drop, but something to consider is that the team never wanted it to be silent hill 4.

Thats not true... 2 of the 6 worlds are Silent Hill locations (even if you're not physically going there it's Walter's dream world I know), the town is explicitly said to neighbor Silent Hill which goes along with the Toluca fog rule and the story is directly related to 1/3. Walter is unwittingly trying to rebirth the god thinking he's bringing his mom back by doing a ritual Dahlia tricked him to do. The events of 4 cannot happen without being in proximity to the town. And that's just ignoring the fact that the series' core is "American horror as interpretted by Japanese people"

Like its not an anthology of people with grief to overcome across the world, it's the story of the spiritual energy that is localized to a single lake with silent hill.

Silent Hill 4 may not have started development as a Silent Hill but it became one and was given every consideration to make sure that made sense. Its not like it was 90% done then they slapped Silent Hill onto it. This bit of trivia was just an early developement fact.

The lycans are the best enemy in the game if you like shooters. I imagine they're hell on console/gamepad but with a mouse their dodges are really fun to track.

Adaptive difficulty really fucks up the experience. One Lycan can take a magazine’s worth of handgun ammo, including a few shots to the face which feels appropriate for a large brute of an enemy. Then the one next to him will die instantly with a single round.

There's mods to max it out always for all the recent games. Its unfortunate they didnt just make it behave that way on higher difficulties. Randomized loot is also a big deal for routing since the ammo resources are so tight the difference of getting 3 extra shotgun shells or not in a lot of these titles actually makes a huge difference.

Like if you're playing og re4 the difference of 10-20 shotgun shells across a playthrough is negligible even on professional. But on re4make that could kill a no death run.

I mean...Silent Hill managed to spawn two Hollywood films.

I guess you could consider almost anything gaming related before the 2010's "niche" based on sales numbers ballooning up, but Silent Hill was pretty big in the gaming space since the first one. Especially in the survival horror space. It was basically Resident Evil and then Silent Hill.
