I was up all night and played through it on Hardcore. It did take about 6-6.5 hours and it was all pretty good. It certainly isn't without its flaws, but all the doomposting thats been surrounding its a bit overblown. It feels like there's a chunkiness here compared to 2 in a few ways like the feel of aiming the guns, enemy reaction to gunfire, extremely weak knife and the Carlos punch. Whenever a crit would happen that at least felt like it had impact. Nemesis was okay, it was incredibly easy to get crates off of him when it was possible, and to give them credit there are plenty of opportunities early on to pick up extra items at times when it seems like a run away encounter. He had a great presence when on screen or active but he never really felt like a threat which was disappointing. In terms of pacing the game does a pretty decent job, it starts out very open with the City portion and then moves you to the more cramped locations, nothing is ever as open as the beginning though and Nemesis will pop up here and then to help move things along.

Overall I liked the environments and locations you go to, although the sewer/underground was the least interesting of them. Enemies were fine, the new additions were hit and miss. The Brain Sucker(?) and Hunter Gamma aren't great, but the Hunter Beta and Nemesis Parasite I liked. Boss fights were all only Nemesis, and I think they were better than 2 because of the dodge, it made them all feel like there was more going on in them. For the areas that were removed/replaced, i'm not sure how I feel on that yet, but I felt satisfied with the locations that were present. There was a lot in the campaign that I liked, and there were areas I saw that they left more open for them to maybe add in additional content, which I hope is the case. If you're looking for a straight up remake of 3 you'll be letdown, otherwise I think its a pretty solid game.

Was Nemesis overly scripted the way some people are complaining about? I wonder if it’s that way due to Mr. X stealing his thunder. How do you think it stacks up to the 2 remake?

Seems like they're leaning hard on the dodge mechanic but I can't get it to work half the damn time anyway.

You have to learn how to dodge at the right moment. I haven't figured it out yet but I love the dodge mechanic. It saved my ass several times. I even did the perfect dodge a few times.

To be fair Capcom said several times it's a reimagining.

Anyway I have a hard time playing the RE3 but is has nothing to do with the game. Every time something scares me my dog runs to me and jumps on my lap. While it's super cute that she is concerned about me it makes playing the game so much harder.

I call it the good girl mode.

He kind of works like he does in the original and how remake Mr.X works, but not as good. He has 3 types of encounters lets say, the 1st is him active on the map and stalking you, 2nd is him chasing you down where you can only run/do a qte, and 3rd is a boss encounter. The 1st type is only really in the beginning and happens during the second half of the City area, you can't kill him like in the original, but you can down him for a bit (like X in 2) and grab a crate. He does not move like Mr X, once he is active he's after you, there is no STOMP STOMP STOMP gradually towards your position. 2nd type is spread throughout the game, they're the more setpiece style events and are generally used to set up a boss encounter or put you in a specific area. 3rd is obvious and there are 4 boss fights.

Mechanically I think I liked Mr X better because he felt like another character on the map that was really exploring and looking for me, but Nemesis has the benefit of being more interesting any time you encounter him do to his moveset and him being faster than you, he also has more character but thats not saying much.

Opening up all these little shortcuts and stuff is making me yearn for a fully explorable Raccoom City. Breaks my heart a little that it's just slightly wider corridors.

I mean I can do it consistently against Nemesis. I beat
the clocktower courtyard boss fight with just a shotgun and pistol because I left my gl in the item box, and that was all perfect dodges, even if it did use up all of my shotty rounds.
It's the zombies it doesn't work too damn well against, especially if they decide to go for the double-lunge. I've even got grabbed in mid perfect roll by a different zombie that was slightly staggered behind the initial one I was dodging.
Poor Carlos is like 2/20 on punches

I take back everything I said about Nemesis holy fucking shit his footsteps are terrifying.

Eating my words a bit. If this asshole was unscripted, I'm hoping the Inferno difficulty ramps him up, he would be an absolute nightmare.

About 2.5 hours in, second Carlos part.

I'm enjoying it so far. It's pretty much exactly what I expected it to be design wise.

I'm kind of baffled at the hate I see on Gamefaqs. People are bitching that it isn't as long as RE2 as if RE2 was super long or something. Pretty sure I beat that game in like 7-8 hours my first blind playthrough. It wasn't that complicated. Then again I remember being baffled at people not immediately figuring out that Mr. X hones in on your location based on gunshots and slamming doors so maybe I just have too much faith in those guys.

I dunno, I'm happy with my purchase. Hope REsistance isn't dumb/dead in a week.

Played a few rounds of Resistance and it's alright, seems less janky than the other 4v1 games. Takes a little few minutes to get into a game sometimes though.

Started a Nightmare run and there are some changes you see right away, looking forward to actually making some headway on it.

Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys, I hated it.
Oh my god. I actually hated it. I was really looking forward to it, as well.
So I got it yesterday ( a day early) but saved playing it til today. Honestly, I found it too short (my finishing time was around four hours on standard mode), I hated the nemesis segments because it was literally just run away in one direction as he chases you. The boss fights were very easy in comparison to RE2. The only challenge during them being an annoying one hit kill in a later boss fight and some irritating zombies in a mid-end boss fight. Nemesis as a presence just hardly was one. He wasn't as consistent as he was in the demo. He vanished as quickly as he showed up. Nicolai(?) felt more developed in the original than he was in this one. The reused assets gave me the impression that they just dumped a team with all of the RE2 assets and told them to make a game in a year with all of that. Zombies were just annoying in this game, they'd show up out of nowhere half the time. The dodge mechanic was very hit and miss - it just felt kind of random? I think I solved about two puzzles in the whole game and one of those took me more than a few minutes, the other was a simple switch puzzle.
Oh and did you guys like the clocktower segment with the epic courtyard nemesis fight and the interesting layout of the place? Oh wait. It isn't in the game. In fact most of the original environments aren't. Also Brad's death was so epic. Oh wait, no it wasn't. It wasn't even shown. But Marvin getting some screentime and some dialogue was fucking awesome. Oh wait, no it wasn't. It didn't happen.
Tell you what though guys, mercenary mode makes it all worth it. Oh wait.
All in all - I am going to play through again. I want to like this game but honestly, this feels like a piggyback on RE2R. It strikes me as a project made without any passion at all - it's just a cash grab.

Finished it, final time came out to 4:01. I would have thought I had played for 5 hours tbh unless it doesn't count cutscenes or continues?

I enjoyed it, but I'd recommend wait for a sale unless you really liked the demo.

I'm like 90% sure that the park/clock tower were planned as Carlos sections but were cut to get it out within a year. The fact it just skips a half a day to Carlos finding Jill from within the Clock Tower? Come on, Capcom.

Oh wait. It isn't in the game. In fact most of the original environments aren't.

I have no problem with that because we know these areas already. Racoon city is huge. Why not show something else? Again Capcom calls it a reimagining and that's what it is.

I would have been disappointed if it had been the same tbh.

I really didn't like it. Way, way, way, way, way too fucking scripted and linear. The constant barrage of cutscenes and pointless bullshit in the beginning left a bad first impression. The section with the ticks was alright but Nemesis was a profound disappointment.

Uninstalled. Getting refund on Steam. Will pirate later. Or possibly buy during a sale for Project Resistance.

I guess creating an A.I. similar to the Alien from Alien Isolation is profoundly difficult? Either that or too expensive because I heard that making that A.I. cost something like 10 million dollars by it self.

Do people like Claire’s or Leon’s weapons more in the 2 remake? Other shit came up and I got as far as Mr. X as Leon before I had to do something else.

I prefer Leon because of the shotgun for 1shots, flamethrower is better than the sparkshot as well I think. Claire has a better time with bosses though because of the SMG, and it's easy to stagger with it as well but that's more a 2nd run thing.

Beat Nightmare difficulty in 3 and it was tough, especially the last boss. You just die if you get hit because it will combo you, unless you have the defence coins then you can get hit twice. Gonna try Inferno next, there's no checkpoints and less typewriters.
