I was thinking, should Capcom re-release a "special edition" of the 3 Remake with the clock tower and other things they cut?

Resident Evil has really turned into a shitty franchise. Fucking Capcom needs to fire the writers and producers. 8 was so boring to watch and the monster designs, game design, story, and gameplay were bland as hell.

7 got away with this because they tried something new, made a smaller game and focused on setting as well as survival. This game...I don't get it. They just throw a dart on a board or something? The big bitch and her little bitches were jokes, so was fishboy, doll girl, and Tetsuo: The Ironman was....eh. He had some personality to him and that helped make him more memorable than everyone else but these aren't villains. They're all rejected sidekicks who went bad just to get attention.

I dont know how Capcom found a way to make BOWs boring and unscary, but they found a way.

This series has really gone to shit. It's like the Simpsons of video games. First few seasons are good but after that it hurts to watch.
You have to keep it in perspective, yes 7 and 8 are not as good as the classic games but they're so much better than 5 and 6, things could be a lot worse.

I'm glad to get something that's solid than terrible.

Here is the full cast just in case anyone doubted from the description linked earlier that this shit wasnt going to be yet another CW tier post-apocalyptic angsty teen melodrama in the vein of the 100 and a bunch of other shitty single season netflix abortions

Nah, from the looks of it reddit is cringing as much as anyone else. the only people performatively cooming over this are thus far twitter checkmarks
In this version, Chris must fight BOWs with his partner Jill in his ultimate goal of breaking Wesker’s BUCK.

Might get hit with a few late's or dumbs but who cares.

So I finished 8 a few weeks ago, and i'm doing a 2nd run because I just want the infinite grenade launcher to wreck absolute hell tbh.
Resident Evil 8 wasn't bad, but it left me wanting more. Which I mean IS a good thing, but also maybe a bad thing? Also standard felt pretty damn easy too which was weird. I ended up hoarding over 300 handgun bullets alone after round 1, and kept trying to maximize my inventory I was so loaded with shit.
For me the order should've been Moreau, Benevento, Dimitrescu, then Heisenberg. Everything felt too damn short after Dimitrescu's castle tbh. Like WAY too short. It also felt pretty out of order as well for some reason.
Honestly I'm waiting for a free VR patch for shits and giggles since I feel i'd have more fun with that but that's just my ass.

Anyways, while I personally enjoyed Remake 2, and 7-8 (I own REmake 3 but i'd rather try to find a copy of the ps1 version again tbh) I really hate the new fans who came in with these games.
Yea yea RE fandom is a shit fire to a degree, but I feel like it amplified more which is a opinion I share with my friend. It's like all the WRONG people are coming into the fandom. Sounds weird but let me explain.

People who don't even LIKE RE or horror games for that matter, fucking FLOCKED to REmake2 and RE8 because "Oooo Leon and Lady Dimitrescu hot" they don't even care bout the overall story or the mechanics, it's just "HOT PEOPLE SELL" and from there these retards don't even bother going back to play the other games, when all of them pretty much are on XBox and PS Now, Steam ETC. and try to gate keep the franchise but they've never been exposed to the other games.
Granted you don't need to play every game under the sun to be a fan, but I don't think you have a right to gate keep if you haven't went back to play SOME of the other games .

TLDR: Coomer culture tries to gate keep all because "hot people" superiority and i'm old,

Ngl, when I saw the actor yesterday. I thought he was Mr.Moseby from the Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

Tifa Lockhart, Lara Croft, every female fighting game character.

What you mean to say is that memes sell. It's not about sex or controversy anymore, but about engagement. I'm guilty of it, myself, as my REV folder has gotten thick (no pun intended).

We may be conditioned to hate zoomers at this point, but the fact is you need newcomers to replenish the aging fans. Otherwise you wind up like Sonic or, to take another example, WWE. It's a balancing act, but it can be done.
Ah fair enough. I'm guilty of thirst buying and meme buying myself but yea you got a point on the whole balancing act thing. My folders are chuck full of Chris memes and this.

I would suppose I’m different from a lot of people who came into the fandom late. I came in when 2make released. Anyway, I liked RE7 because it actually had horror but RE8 was... it was fun, but it didn’t feel like resident evil other than the appearance of the BSAA and Chris Boulder Redfield.

oh yeah, when I say I’m different from a lot of people who came in late I mean I prefer the horror part of the series. A lot of people came in during re2 remake though lol.

It's far worse now than it was when RE4 released, but at that time I noticed a lot of people flocking into the "fan community" who had really only played RE4 and those people eventually outnumbered the OG fans and steered the series in a shitty direction. By that I mean RE5 and RE6. Now RE5 was passable, it was primarily an action game but it was fun enough to play through co-op with a friend over some brews, RE6 I really don't know what the fuck they were thinking. I don't know about the people primarily brought in by the remakes or RE7, but I can say without a doubt that the people dragged into the community by RE8 are by far the most annoying. Primarily due to the over-proliferation of Mommy Milker memes.

It's kind of bittersweet because when people say that RE4 likely saved the franchise, they are somewhat correct, but at the same time it kind of sealed the deal that we'd probably never get back to any of the OG shit. Code Veronica would have probably been more successful if Dreamcast exclusivity hadn't lasted so long, though that version was better in most ways. I suppose it's like any other form of media, aside from nostalgia bait they're trying to appeal to the larger audience, and not the "purists" that grew up on the original series, and I can say with certainty that backtracking, actual puzzles, inventory management and tank-controls aren't going to appeal to much of the demographic they would like to attract. Attention spans have gotten shorter and now every game needs shortcuts to make them easier and bombastic cutscenes, but this'll just turn into an old man yells at cloud rant if I keep going.

Best case scenario would be two series in parallel, which it seemed like they were doing up until RE3 remake, but that didn't appeal to OG fans much due to cut content and making Nemesis about as threatening as a throw pillow. One series to placate and nostalgia-bait us and another parallel series to appeal to Zoomers. Maybe they'll go in that direction with whichever game they're remaking next, but until then the RE1 remake on PC will probably be my top RE game outside of the originals.

This is old news but I’m glad Pete Fabiano left capcom. He’s the same motherfucker who said this. Good riddance.

like lol, “comfortable.” If you can’t handle the scares don’t play a horror franchise in the first place. Jesus Christ.

I don't have a strong opinion on 4, but you wield a good case. What exactly about CV stood out from 4?

My opinion on 4 isn't too unlike my opinion on RE8, they're fine games mechanically and graphically but really out of place with the rest of the series, enjoyable in their own way but neither game really benefited much from their few associations with the series and other established lore, and since that's true, they almost might as well have just made them one-offs or part of their own series, generally.

Code Veronica stands out for me because it was like the natural amalgamation of everything they had introduced thus far. Everything is there, including, for better or worse, the odd campy characters. And the graphics were sort of a combination between pre-rendered backgrounds and 3D, which was nice too. A lot of people don't like it but I'm fond of it simply because it's the last game in the Resident Evil series that I can consider survival horror, and I suspect a lot of the people that didn't like it are people who jumped in later and went back to CV for their first taste of the original games, saw that it wasn't like RE4 or later entries, and were disappointed. It's also one of the more difficult games in the series. It was sort of like the team working on it had managed to distill down everything the series had going for it at that point in time into its' purest form, and they successfully trimmed all the fat too. I've heard compelling arguments that RE3 was that perfect distillation of the series like I've described, but I think CV just did it a bit better. The RE1 remake refined it further too and it was like a sort of "swan song" to the original series.

RE4 managed to strike a balance that was satisfactory, but every game afterward I would have trouble even throwing "survival horror" into the conversation, aside from RE7 which managed to strike a similar balance while also putting it into a new perspective and almost entirely new characters. Basically I think RE8 will do what RE4 did, fine games on their own but overall sending the series down a bad path, and purely from the angle of gameplay and plot RE4 was still a better game than RE8.

Question for all the hardcore Resident Evil fans, which one of the old "Classic Resident Evil" games is your favorite?

Mine is probably RE3 with RE2 in an extremely close second.
I'm actually having a retrospective of RE at the moment and replaying most of the old games, so far I've finished REmake and RE2 (the original) and am currently making my way through RE3 (the original as well)

I've not played RE3 since 2004 so it's very close to playing it for the first time since I've forgotten so much, this is honestly like a dream come true because I've been wanting a RE in the classic style I haven't played before and this is as close as I can get, I completely forgot what the interior of the clock tower looked like and stuff like that, since I find that style of pre-rendered graphics from back then really appealing it's a trip to see what are basically new to me environments in that style.

My favorite of the classic games is REmake but pre REmake I would say RE3 is my favorite, RE2 is still fun but it also looks pretty dated, the leap from RE2 to RE3 is huge, RE3 looks near REmake quality.

One thing I do love about RE2 though is all the stuff with Chief Irons is wonderfully creepy, which is what 3 is kind of lacking, contrasting RE2 with the RE2 remake is interesting though, the remake is definitely better, more so than I was really expecting when revisiting the original 2 honestly, but it's true, the original 2 is still absolutely worth playing though.

I don't have a strong opinion on 4, but you wield a good case. What exactly about CV stood out from 4?
CV delved into the lore about Umbrella, 4 ignores all of that in favor of basically a complete side story.

Irons arguably poses more of a threat to a civilian. Few things are scarier than a cop who sees no value in keeping you alive.

The 2make version is more "arch". He's already lost his marbles and doesn't even try to mask it. The original is more grandiose: you can picture him in the RCPD Press Room, lulling the sheep, while the wolves devour them. Both have their merits.

Side note: I did a Google image search and got sidetracked by the "Brian Irons Mode" mod. It's the best thing.

.
The credit goes to the late Noboru Sugimura, dude knew how to write a great maniac character considering he also wrote Code Veronica, where Alfred is much like Brian Irons if he actually was a part of Umbrella itself instead of just being on the payroll, he also wrote Haunting Ground which was a whole game of maniacs as well as Clock Tower 3 which had some creepy maniacs (although a couple of ridiculous ones too sadly)

It adds an interesting dynamic to have someone in a RE game who's simply crazy and not a mutant, which is not something we've seen in the series outside of Irons and Alfred.

Thinking further about it it's kind of tough to pick between RE2 and RE3 (which was not written by Noboru Sugimura), 3 is a huge leap technically but 2 is definitely the better written game, one place where 3 is definitely lacking is story, there's not much to it, it's all about providing more awesome RE gameplay and environments but there's not too much in the way of story.

And yeah, the approach with Irons in the original versus remake is interesting to compare and contrast, having his serial killer lair actually be below the police station itself instead of nearby is creepier, but the orphanage is a creepy environment in of itself and the remake improves things by having the segment where you play as Sherry involve running away from him, it's one of the scariest moments in the game and way better than the brief moment you play as Sherry in the original.

As I said before, I was actually just a tad surprised how much better the remake of 2 is than the original, rose colored glasses made me expect the gap to be smaller, but while the original 2 is still a classic I have to admit the remake is a big improvement in most ways, with my only real issue being the lack of music (the original 2 has a wonderfully atmospheric soundtrack) and I think you spend too much time in the sewers in the remake, it's a lot briefer in the original which I think is a good thing.
