yeah, loads of drama this week, they even started a cringey hashtag to ease things.

AND GUESS WHO'S TRYING TO MAKE IT ALL ABOUT HIMSELF AND HIS GAY CHRIS FETISH AGAIN
View attachment 2273005

Good lord, Lito is such a cunt. Actual gay men called out his bullshit, yet he still continues his homophobia nonsense.

Why are so many fans of this franchise obsessed with Chris being revealed as gay? Thank god J.K. Rowling isn’t the one at the head of the series because that would feel like a J.K. Rowling moment.

what I find really funny too is there’s even a note in RE2 remake where Chris talks about a “hot babe” he got with. Yes, I know the note is a secret message to tell his fellow S.T.A.R.S. Members to not come for him, but I’d say it’s pretty clear he’s into bitches and has dated before. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter but it’s funny how something like that disproves the people who fetishize a gay Chris.

Took a break, but dived back into my retrospective and finished RE3.

Unfortunately while I love all the Raccoon City areas the final factory level is pretty meh, like they ran out of time or ideas, the final area is one of the few places the RE3 remake improves on the original I feel.

And there's so little to 3's story beyond revealing the ultimate fate of Raccoon City, it's cool to see a lot more of Raccoon City but it's pure side story territory, fans would have had to wait until Code Veronica to really see the story progress in a significant way, nothing really new is revealed about Umbrella, the origins of the T virus etc.

And that's what's next up is Code Veronica X, which it's not been too, too long since I played, I last played it in 2015, but I only played it the one time, so it's one of the games I'm the least familiar with.

There're unused line in RE5 about Chris dating a younger BSAA colleague and Jill being vaguely jealous and they will get together in the movie reboot. Ship it or not, but these two have the most stable relationship in this franchise, they could have had a perfect marriage.
Anyway, gay Chris thing started with RE6 and then Revelations 2 lolcalizers added shipping fuel when they deliberately mistranslated Piers' letter to make it seem he's interested in Chris (in the original script it's hinted Piers likes Claire, in the localization he asks her to send pictures of Chris. Lolcalizers also added Claire's having a crush on Neil, I guess just to keep her away from Piers?)
There're plenty of characters with ambigious orientations but faggots want Chris for "representation" because he's sexy.

So, CV does not hold up as well as I was expecting, especially graphically, I remember thinking in 2015 that it held up decently for an early 2000s game but it does hold up well at all today, which I find really surprising, now granted 2015 was fairly early in the 8th gen and graphics have certainly come a long way since then (for example this was before any RE engine RE games) and I guess 2015 was longer ago than I remember, but it genuinely weirds me out to find the game looking so out of lock step with my memory.

I mean it's a huge downgrade from RE3, this being the early days of 3D it would have been impressive that it was full 3D at all when it was new, but today it seems like a waste not to use the plotline for another pre-rendered game.

And gameplay wise this definitely doesn't seem quite as good as the others, however it's not all bad, there's still some stuff that's cool, Alfred is such a fun villain, I forgot just how weird his little laugh is.

However I'm a lot more sympathetic now to fans who want a remake ala the RE2 Remake, that would be cool, I'm also interested to see how the fan remake turns out.

Apparently, the woke mob harassed one of the voice actors for Village (Bekka Prewitt) to the point where she cried on stream.

Fortunately, the people who trolled Bekka seem to be a minority, and they're being rightfully shat on even by their own fellow LGBT wokies.
Faggots and their sycophants are starting to goddamn piss me off bad enough that I want to join the most homophobic "kill the fags" church I can find. And I don't even believe in Jebus! That's how badly this shit pisses me off. It's compelled speech.

This is why a lot of people want a remake of CV. It actually needs one unlike RE4.

And yeah, Alfred is great. This game was funny as hell. I wouldn’t even trade the acting.

Every time I think this way, I just tell myself "it's only a few of them. There are always assholes in any community. I'm just seeing more of them now because there's more of them out of the closet."

But I find myself having to say that a good half-dozen times a day now, and it's getting to the point where you have to wonder if you're just sticking your head in the sand, like a British liberal in the late 1700s who doesn't quite believe the rumors about the Jacobins, an American socialist of the early 20th century who hasn't yet accepted the horror stories coming out of Germany and Russia, or an Umbrella Corp employee c. 2013 who thinks the Wuhan stuff is just some racist conspiracy theory spread by that horrible man, President Benford.

I've never actually played CV, but if you have, I was wondering...

There's a family member of mine who is very fond of Resident Evil. Her favorite characters in the entire franchise are Claire, and Steve Burnside.

Now, Claire, I know, is fine. I like her a lot. She's not in my top five RE characters, but I fully support her interest in Claire.

What's Steve Burnside like though? Is he any good? Is it appropriate that she ships Claire and Steve?

I'm noticing what have got to be some intentional jokes in CV, it seems like it tries to be funny on purpose sometimes, which is interesting, although so did 4.

But what's weird is knowing now that the original plan was to reveal Umbrella were actually Nazis I can see the influence of that idea everywhere, from the prison camp to even some of the island's technology having a vague German look, they must have changed their minds on that idea pretty late in development and I can't help but wonder if the Ashford family are still supposed to have Nazi ties.

It's still a solid game, just more dated than I was expecting (but I should have expected that since it is over 20 years old now)

Right off the bat what I noticed with Steve is him saying "sowry" the Canadian way, is it because the voice actors are Canadian or is the character supposed to be Canadian?

He's annoying but I think that's kind of the point, a young and brash character like this adds an interesting dynamic to a RE game in contrast with the main cast always being "strong and competent", I don't hate the character.

Dam you TV tropes. WHY MUST YOU RUIN MY DREAMS?

Almost at the end lads. Time for Resident Evil Retribution: The Clonus Horror. This movie is definitely a step in right direction compared to the last one. More practical effects, higher stakes, amusing fanservice, less Bollywood and more kickass action set pieces. As roundabout and silly as this plot is, it kept me going all the way though and had a nice payoff. (Till the sequel anyway) If you wanted to see more clone drama after the last movie ditched it you’re in for a treat.

The film starts out with a frankly bitching slow mo reverse sequence of Alice getting blown off the tanker ship from the last movie.

Then we have what appears to be a nightmare sequence of Alice living with Carlos!... And their strangely deaf child, before zombies start attacking and killing everybody.

Then Alice wakes up in an umbrella facility and actually starts wearing less clothing then the ending of the first one. Imagine that. (Yes you can see some nips if you look for em)

1624112046548.png

She gets tortured by a brainwashed Jill until somebody lets her out. Then starts dodging lasers and shit until she suddenly finds herself in a replica of Tokyo filled with clones and clone zombies. Leading to probably one of the best fights in the series.

Then she meets her savior Ada Wong! Played by Li Bingbing.

1624112101018.png

Very good casting. She actually studied the mannerisms of her game counterpart like Sienna Guillory did for Jill. Although she’s dubbed by voice of RE4 Ada Sally Cahill, as Bingbing had an accent. Has a decent amount of screen time and action

And who else sent her but our good friend Albert Wesker!

1624112210267.png

They don’t explain this in the movie of course, but according to the books the Wesker she beat the shit out of at the end of afterlife was apparently a rogue clone. And this entire facility Alice is in, is an underwater cloning facility build to test and control the viruses. They built these replica cities of all major capitals so they could show footage of how effective their product is and sell it. So America sees footage of new York getting zombifyed, they buy the virus. Russia see’s Moscow totaled and they buy the virus and vice versa. This started a global arms race that may actually have been the real reason the world is so fucked up. Very interesting food for thought, but they keep it vague and don’t follow up on this concept sadly. Wesker wants to save Alices ass because he believes she is the weapon humanity needs to win. (blood Cure for the virus? nahh)

In order to get the fuck out of there Alice needs to traverse several replica city’s filled with zombies and rendezvous with Weskers handpicked team of badasses. And who better to save the day then Leon S motherfucking Kennedy and Barry badass Burton!

1624112243311.png

Along with a redshirt, hackerman and the celebrity black guy from the last movie… look we need some blood bags in there somehow.

It’s a Resident evil gaiden reunion tour!

1624112271137.png

Although, they could have done better with the casting and lines for em. Leon is just kinda… average. They really should have cast Jenson Ackles for the role as was originally planned, but instead we got Johann Urb. Didn’t hate him, but I honestly would have gotten more of a kick out of it if Chris came back and replaced him.
1624136386889.png

Barry is fine, but I really wish they camped him up and gave him more bombastic lines.
He does have a neat death scene though

1624137196143.png

They do feel more tacked on then other RE protagonists, but im still kinda glad they were there to liven things up.

1624136497294.png

What is love? Baby dont hurt me, don’t hurt me no more.

The umbrella security taskforce guys got a retooled design and actually look more faithful to the games. They also get bitching capes. It’s implied most if not all of them are forcefully obedient clones. As we see Michelle Rodriguez and Colin Salmon come back from the first movie as bad guys.
1624136534477.png

I actually like this idea, It would explain how umbrella is getting all this manpower and loyalty out of its troops. And why nobody thinks to stop and question if any of this shit is a good idea. My only complaint is that it seemed like they would set up a conflict of interest between the umbrella soldiers that never arrives. Because Rodriguez has a good clone that was being used as test fodder and it seemed like they would interact. Never happened sadly.

I don’t really have much more to say about the movies plot structure. It basically took all the complaints I had about afterlife and fixed it nicely. If I had to compare it to another movie, I would say it gave me fast and the furious vibes with how crazy ridiculous awesome things get.

For example: At one point Burry and leon start fighting heavily armed commie zombies in replica Moscow. Tell me you wouldn’t enjoy this shit!

[

The final fight of the movie, was legit fantastic. With Jill vs Alice, while Michelle Rodriguez gets juiced up with plagas to fight Leon and celebrity black man.

Alice gets the absolute SHIT kicked out of her. if you hated her and loved Jill you’ll have a blast with this scene. They really did a good job overall with the fight Choreography and made sure everything flowed well.

Throughout this movie, I was kinda having trouble figuring out why the fuck Wesker was helping Alice and turning on umbrella until the end. It turns out the red queen AI has hijacked umbrella and is going full Skynet on everybody with Zombies. And even better! Our boy has rebuilt the remnants of humanity and become the President of the United states!
1624136843893.png

Leon’s his bitch now.

And so after wesker gives alice back her powers, we get the final shot of the movie. A scene so fantastic and cool you know they are not going to be able to follow through on this shit.

This was an ending so badass it actually united people that hated the movies with the fans who wanted to see what would happen next. But I want to be clear when I say this fucking ending was not followed up on AT ALL. I have not seen the final chapter yet. But my understanding is its quite a narrative and production clusterfuck. Im hoping it’s not completely horrible, but… we’ll see.

Oh and as a side note, Alice gets a deaf clone daughter to carry around and save. Its more than a little distracting, as they constantly do sign language to each other as they are talking. Apparently they did this because they liked the real life actor’s performance so much they decided to just roll with her being deaf. She does alright, but its hilarious how sometimes Alice talks to her without sign language and she clearly shouldn’t be able to hear her. The actor is only partially deaf, but they never say that in the movie. At one point the deaf girl gets captured by a licker and instead of being immediately devoured, it puts her in some kind of snack cocoon? Really odd. In any case she suffers from missing girl syndrome in the next movie.

What in God's name is going on here? It can't just be canon cleansing by the studio.

Edit: Most of the actors knew they were in a shit-burger, so nobody signed a multi-film deal. Characters and arcs had to abandoned when they refused to come back (:_(

Something must have been going on in the background. Im not sure what, but I plan to do a bit of digging when im done with the last chapter. I know the plan was to make the last 2 movies back to back, but something delayed the final chapter for almost 5 years. Typically they managed to crank each of these movies out every 2 to 4 years.

I actually had no idea they put so many characters from the games in the movies, I knew about Jill, Claire and Chris but not Leon and Barry, I think I knew about Ada but forgot.

I do remember Retribution getting pretty good buzz back when it came out, I had written the movies off after Apocalypse but you've got me curious to check them out myself now.

I'd give anything to get a Remake but we keep all the cheesy dialogue. Just shiny new paint n everything, but keep that good ol acting.
But whatever they did for Darkside Chronicles was pretty good. Maybe it's my nostalgia glasses talking though but if we went in that direction I wouldn't be mad.
But nothing is ever going to top the whole sequence of Steve jumping out a fuckin window outta nowhere, shooting the shit out of the bandersnatch and bein a dork trying to impress Claire.
"Don't worry Claire! Your knight in shining armor is here!"
"...You wish."

Slightly off topic but in a convo with my friend she brought up "As much as I like Remake Leon, it doesn't FEEL like Leon. Steve in DC looks more like he'd fit reboot Leon than what we got."
As much as I like Remake Leon, she has a point. I think for me it's really like a jaw line thing so when the REmake for 4 gets brought up my mind can't see Remake 2 strong jawline baby faceish Leon becoming the RE4 Leon we're used to. It just doesn't mesh well in my mind at all.
Every time I think this way, I just tell myself "it's only a few of them. There are always assholes in any community. I'm just seeing more of them now because there's more of them out of the closet."

Late as fuck but I'm pretty sure i'm younger than some of the people in this thread probably so I guess i'll give my 2 cents and i'm the resident Steve fag I guess.
But damn does your family member remind me of when I was a kid and i'll just put my spurging under a spoiler so I don't clog up the thread more than I have to. Also major spoiler warning for the game if you care.

TBH, Steve i've noticed for my time in the fandom is either You love him or you hate him I think it really boils down to which game you played either CV/CVX or Darkside Chronicles. I'm biased and I like him a lot so maybe take my stuff with a grain of salt.

Original game wise, he's kinda a whiney little snot but it's cause he's a 17 year old put in jail with his dad and he has a dead mom. TLDR: Dad sold umbrella secrets, umbrella wasn't havin it so they came to the burnside home, killed the mom, and the dad and Steve in jail on Rockfort island. Later on the dad is a zombie and Steve kills him and he has a minor emo moment
He acts like a teenager, and does the love at first sight thing with Claire (who i'm p sure was 19 in CV so idk if age matters to you for some reason). But over the course of the story you can see him go from cocky "I have trust issues" to mature-ish "I want to GTFO of here and also protect the girl I have a crush on" which is really cute in my opinion. However, he turns into a B.O.W. and then cheesy as it sounds, the power of love prevails, and homeboy dies and his death had me in absolute tears since he told Claire he loved her before he died. Maybe it's cause I'm a Cleve shipper myself and there's plenty of material out there for it, but it's very one sided since Steve is in love with Claire and she's like "cool I wanna go home and find my brother."
TLDR: CV/CVX Steve can be described as sad dorky horny teen. If your curious he doesn't change in CVX, he just get's the emo flap hair cut cause in CV he had the DiCaprio hair which I'm pretty sure got changed due to fear of lawsuits.

Darkside Chronicles (a nutshell reimagining of CV essentially) They made Steve more mature than his original game counterpart. I'd argue he has more chemistry with Claire in this game since unlike the original, DC is one of those light gun games and Steve's your partner up until the final chapter. He's still the sad horny dork in love, but he's more fleshed out and isn't nearly as grating at the first incarnation of him since he's more "Hey I too want to get off this island, let's go while I still try to flirt on the sidelines". DC really did him some justice in fleshing him out outside of annoying teen boy and giving him more of a personality than "dork boy who just pops up from time to time due to being a nuisance". Not much to say here really since nothing really changes story wise with Steve since DC hits everything nearly beat for beat, but if your family member ships them I think in this version of the game Steve puts his jacket on Claire when they're in Antarctica, compared to in the original game where he gives her some space.

But yea there's nothing wrong with your family member being a Cleve shipper since there's nothing inappropriate as far as I know. However it's just really one-sided on Steve's end since you can interpret Claire as either seeing him as a poor kid stuck in this shit show, or she may have had feelings at the end for him due to what goes down. It's really up to interpretation.

EDIT: fixed photo links and a dumbass error on my part.

Is it worth playing through RE Zero? I'm tempted to set it on easy and just rush through the story because I usually finish every Resident Evil game I play. I don't like the fact that you have to control two characters and Rebecca only seems to be useful for making herbal medicine. I know you can dump all your inventory on the ground but I find that annoying, and all of the bosses I've encountered so far have been giant bugs so it's not been interesting. I played RE 1, 2, and 3 when they were new and enjoyed them very much so I'm not turned off by tank controls, but for some reason I'm not having fun with this game.

Tip: If the internet calls it "one of the most underrated, if not THE BEST film/game/character in the series" then it's probably shit.

Backtracking is incredibly tedious. The game is rather unfair since you never know when Billy and Rebecca will split up. Utterly fails as a prequel, which dampers the fun for hardcore fans.

I played RE 1, 2, and 3 when they were new and enjoyed them very much
It sounds like a contradiction but it's really not. Sooner or later, fatigue sets in and convention becomes cliché.

Was about to post my two cents but KaibaCorp above beat me to it.

DSC Cleve is a hot couple. Chris Redfield would approve

Is it worth playing through RE Zero?
I'd say yes, even if for artstyle and Wesker mode only. Admittedly, I have nostalgia goggles on for this game and I like Rebecca. Interesting that they included factory levels from RE2 that the remake ended up cutting. Leech hunter is fun. I used to play this game a lot as a kid, so I didn't find it tedious, but ultimately this is up to the taste.
