And now that they've retracted their statement any other people like pretend tranny lawyers can't claim they didn't know it was false if they choose not to issue a retraction and decide they want to go to court.

There is something to be said for trying to make an example of bad actors who blatantly lie, and even if Epik has formally retracted their statement, damaging falsehoods travel faster than truth, particularly concerning allegations of something like child porn. I am sure that Epik's accusations are going to be repeated by online "journalists" as well as the media over and over despite Epik's retraction.

It'll depend on what was going on behind the scenes. While issuing a retraction will help their side if null continues to pursue this legally, it doesn't insulate them entirely. If null threatened and threatened and they kept doubling down and antagonizing him by publicly shitting on his reputation as a law abiding tech entity, they can't dodge all responsibility with a last minute retraction. The damage is already done.

It's not necessarily unreasonable for him to still pursue a more explicit apology and a statement admitting that they made the claim up wholesale. Not just some half hearted "we have no specific knowledge of blah blah blah" statement.

I'll repeat myself from the other thread and then close this one. We reached an out of court agreement, which resolves the litigation issue. My requests were that Epik would issue a retraction in public, provide a certified copy of such retraction for other litigation purposes, and then assist me in contacting NICs to get a domain we lost to an intermediary RIR returned to me.

Epik is a company now owned by a very big company and nobody wants to get into shit over that, but I would have because the claims are so wtf audacious. It was very obvious that a retraction would be the most expedient and mutually beneficial outcome.

I'm still ready to go to court over defamation but I'm going to try once again to be nice.

I feel like people don’t get this, even lawyers at times.

If any Kiwis ever have the misfortune to be targeted by bottom-feeding attorneys and accept their terms by way of avoiding a lawsuit, often they get mad that you folded and won’t want to walk away without a massive payout. There is at least one other bad actor who Null could go after that has been spreading the Epik lie. Rather then spend money on pursuing something that's already been resolved, I'd rather see the Litigation Fund being put towards completely burying this lying sack of shit.

Once that particular party has been taken down, journoscum will have no choice but to accept Epik's retraction in full. Especially given the party in question has considerable clout within the journscum classes.

The current strategy has worked well thus far, and whilst $150k sounds like a lot of money, there are still several other fights to be picked. Null and Hardin are no doubt chasing maximum bang for buck to ensure there's enough money to go around.

i guess if alex was forced to issue a public retraction and apology as well, that would indeed be fun. his lolcow thread here would have a field day with it.
not sure if it would make an impact on the broader narrative of "kiwifarms is the devil" that prevails in those circles, but it could maybe serve as deterrence against them spreading particularly egregious lies about the forum and about null.
