Retared Alternate Reality Theory

Its been proven people only read the first part of a word and fill the rest in subconsciously. It's why you can read a sentence with a word lacking it's ending and you'd still understand it

Here people just pronounced it as Berenstein and just forgot it had a strange spelling.

Y'know, with that powerlevel, I can so easily figure out who you really are...

Shortly after making this post, Conrix mysteriously disappeared and all internet-enabled devices that belonged to him were precisely and thoroughly destroyed. Despite this precise capture, no known authorities currently have the forum sperg known as Conrix in captivity, nor can he be found elsewhere on the planet. However, a parasol was found stuck through his LCD computer monitor.

I've been off and on reading about this phenomenon today and it's pretty interesting. There are a whole bunch of these spergs on reddit,
Apparently, it's called the "Mandela effect." It's named such because a large amount of people (including me, until now) believed Nelson Mandela died in prison years ago, when actually he died in 2013.
Most of the people involved in this.. whatever it is tend to speculate this is evidence of an alternative reality, where Nelson Mandela DID die in prison years ago and the Berenstain Bears WERE called the Berenstein Bears.
Other Mandela effect things:
-Some people remember Mr. Rogers dying in 2011 or later, not several years earlier in 2003.
-Some people remember Chakotay dying in a mid season episode of Voyager, then suddenly reappearing a few episodes later. This one is pretty interesting to me because I'm a Star trek sperg and because a lot of people have independently brought this up in detail at conventions and and gotten really confused when other people point out there was no such episode. I wonder if this had something to do with air times, like maybe they aired an episode where something happened to him followed by a lot of Chakotay lite episodes (is that even a thing ?)
-Some people think Jif peanut butter was called Jiffy (Prob because of Jiffy Lube?)
-Some people think Ghost Hunters was called TAPS. Well, I guess the team in it are called TAPS so that's not a very big mystery there.
Anyway it's kinda interesting. What do you guys remember? I remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison, Berenstein Bears, Jif peanut butter, Mr. Rogers dying in 2003 and the other two are irrelevant.

I remember the original Bionicles being totally different
I remember 9/11 as having happened in 2003
I remember the Orange revolution as having happened in 2008-2009

This thread reminds me of a thread on /x/ awhile back where people claimed to have died in an alternate reality only to wake up in this one. One story didn't add up because they claimed the sun was a different color in the world they claimed they came from.

The anon claimed that they and some others were flying during military training when their plane was about to crash. Just before it crashed, however, everything suddenly changed and the plane was flying normally. The anon then noticed that the sun was a different color, certain parts at electronics stores were different, and I think the anon noted that TV was a lot more prudish (this is in the USA) - apparently in the reality they came from there were no FCC regulations against showing tits on regular TV (again, this part is if I'm recalling the story right).

Ignoring for a moment the obvious issues of how consciousness would transfer from one physical brain to another one in a different universe, if the sun were a different color, its' energy output would be different, and Earth would have to have a different orbit to get the same amount of light and heat it does from the real Sun - which means a different year length. Not only that, but if the sun were a different color, plants would most likely be a different color too, due to the spectral output of a different color sun being different as well. The anon didn't mention anything about different plant colors and year lengths in that story, and differences that big would've definitely been noted if the story were real.

Then again, taking a story of the paranormal on /x/ seriously probably isn't a good idea anyway.

Anyway, I think there are more mundane explanations for these supposed alternate reality memories.

The simple explanation to the Mandela effect was that people are mixing him up with Steve Biko, a similar anti-apartheid activist who actually died in prison in 1977; and the fact that most activists of the Mandela ilk died before their time (Gandhi, Malcolm X, Martin Luthur King) -- or at least that's my theory.

Rest in peace Nelson, our supreme overlord of the stars.

The what?
Nelson Mandela supposedly died at two very different years in different timelines, hence the Mandela Effect. The way I see it tho, it can be explained by one of many factors:
  1. It could simply be people misremembering things like that for mundane reasons (e.g. Bernstæin printing error, mixing Nelson Mandela with Steve Biko). The most logical theory.
  2. @John Titor fucked up our timestream by stealing an IBM and averting the y2k bug through time travel.
  3. ayylien/CIA mind control rays
  4. Sufficiently powerful nuclear incidents really do split our timeline somehow like in Fallout
  5. [POST CONTENT REDACTED BY ORDER OF THE CIA AND PUBLIC SECURITY INTELLIGENCE AGENCY OF JAPAN]

This is probably how people saw that scene with Biggs in Star Wars.

I don't want to A-Log, but the death of Mandela was pretty big news when it actually happened. I mean, it was quite hard to miss.

Heh, I read about this recently. It's pretty amusing, alright. I like the idea of someone going back in time for the sole purpose of changing the name of a series of children's books. ;p

That would take a John Titor with Mr. Enter levels of autism to do that.
