Retro games and emulation - Discuss retro shit in case you're stuck in the past or a hipster

I have the feeling we are 5 years off from gamecube games being on virtual console. Zoomers need to figure out how to emulate and to download Dolphin. If you're paying more then the original cost of a game 20 years after it's release it's simply not worth it imo. I love Pikimin, Sunshine, Luigi's mansion but paying more then $60 for them? Just not worth it.
They already know how to emulate, lol (and PCSX2 is still terrible).
It's not just kids who buy these games lol. You should see the price ramping up on ebay, i'm sure some people are buying them cheap from Cex and similar and then reselling them for 3x time the value on sites like ebay, craigslist and all the various alternatives.
also, note that this stuff did helped a lot, and the price have been ramping up since at least 2012

As well as the obvious eyestrain, I imagine this is somewhat heavy. At least for a keyring.
I don't think it's heavier than a piece of pcb encased in plastic. I've seen heavier keyrings.

For the ROM Google hshop. They have packages for modded 3DS but they can be installed on Citra. Actual .3ds ROMs work better for Citra, but I have no idea where to get those.
This service is god damn amazing. Shame it doesn't also have all the DS games but this is amazing enough as it is.

Is anyone here nifty with emulating DS on a Android tab? Just got one with a cell-phone purchase and i thought "why no" but from what i've heard it is quiet an ordeal to get it to work?
Download the Drastic demo, and if it works buy it or pirate it. It ran flawlessly on my 2013 Nexus 7, and now lets me play 4x upscaled DS games on my modded Switch that I dual booted Android on to.

De gustibus. When it comes to arcade, I'm fine with downloading a romset with random shit (as long as it's not video poker and slot machines shit), so when I don't know what to play I can try typing a random word and see if anything decent comes out. That's how I discovered R-Type.
Arcade is the best platform for picking random games to play based on nothing but the title or developer. Safe bets for the MAME bar: "ninja", "Namco", "Taito", "monster".

I'm sure it's been mentioned in the thread before, but can I take a moment to say how much I'm enjoying PCSX2's new Qt gui? If you're familiar with Duckstation's slick and eye-pleasing ui, you'll be right at home here. It's so similar I wonder if it's the same guy responsible for both?

Most importantly, the Qt version (only) allows for per-game configuration. Something that PCSX2 has needed for as long as PCSX2's been a thing.

regarding mame "just download a full set?" question from a bit back
I will usually get a prepacked set that I can set the torrent to just get specific games, then as I want other ones I pull them down.
Also iirc mame got marginally less picky a few years back, and can sometimes try to run things that are labelled the right zip but not the exact romsets it's expecting

I might just stick with the PS3 version of the Sega Genesis Collection. If I recall, they have all versions of Golden Axe and Streets of Rage on there. Plus, if you play enough, you can actually unlock secret Genesis games that were not previously available.

Crusader of Centy, Gain Ground, Outrun, the Shining games, Sonic CD, Ecco the Dolphin CD all make this a pretty good lineup. Hopefully Sonic CD will have both versions like the first Genesis Mini did for some games since the soundtrack is completely different across regions. Night Trap is an iconic Sega CD game, but it's more recent rerelease is am much better experience. It needs a music player though for the CD games since they're just Red Book audio anyway and I've heard of people who just bought Sega CD games for the soundtracks back in the day.

It probably won't make me get one, but I like that Sega CD is getting some official love and I love the USB Genesis pads they made for my Raspberry Pi.

I know my Saturn copy of Darius Gaiden got a lot more use as a CD than as a game, even though it's a nice enough shooter
