What are you talking about? They’ve put out two more NES games since Micro Mages, plus a full-sized expansion to Micro Mages, plus they just put out a Kickstarter for a physical release multicart that includes those three games plus a secret new fourth game (albeit a minigame).

Ah, you meant the Android emulator that had a lolcow dev. I agree, that was a shitshow.
The dev was an hypocrite. People speculating it was a gayop were delusional, since it was all well documented, I think you can find most of it in this thread, I remember it making into the happenings due to the sheer retardation of the developer. He went from "Foss is sacred" to placing advertisement in an emulator and even screeching at anyone using an ad-free version of it. The other developers on his team even advised against updating to the latest version because he did all of it by itself. He went full lunatic. The emulator still exists and the people that were left on the team kept updating undoing all of the retard's damage to the emulator.
Android was a mistake.

Regardless, AetherSX2 is for ARM, PCSX2 is for x86.

I went out of my way to not include games with superior console ports. Colecovision has the definitive home console port of Donkey Kong for the second console generation. I'm pretty sure the Burger Time Coleco port is better too but I may be wrong.

I think Coleco had some exclusivity contract for a while, it was the selling point of the system. The ColecoVision was more powerful than either the Intellivision or the Atari 2600, but the video game crash wiped them out.

I do hope there's a way to fix the nes castlevanias considering there are reverse engineered fixes for gradius iii, super mario world, ghouls and ghosts and couple other SNES games to ditch the SNES clock and run at higher framerates.

The sprite flicker and moments of slowdown in NES Castlevanias are fixable, sadly afaik there is no fix for the other problems you noticed, like skipped frames during jumps, because you are imagining them.

tbqh you appear to be sneeding about intentional design choices. The obvious fix would be to play games intentionally designed in some other way. Konami also made any number of games with more forgiving jump controls (Kid Dracula, Monster in My Pocket, Tiny Toons etc), it's not a matter of hardware or programming. In fact you can get "better" controls in CV3 just by switching to Grant. 8 Eyes is a Castlevania clone, Shatterhand is a Ninja Gaiden clone. You played games notable for their strict controls and high difficulty, and now you are mad. How could this be happening?

Happy 20th anniversary to one of the best Rockstar Games additions that were not GTA and Red Dead Redemption-related. I might just go on eBay and get the game for almost $30 because why not.

I put this right up there with Bully and Midnight Club as the best thing that the Rockstar ever made. It makes me (almost) want to play Manhunt 2, and I can talk about that sequel all day, questioning why it wasn’t as great as the first.

I got one of those OceanGate Logitech controllers and I'm glad it works with Need for Speed 2 since it will only use Direct Input. As a child I've never played this game with a controller before.

This post inspired me to buy a PS2 copy off of ebay. I've played the Steam ports but Rockstar did a fucking horrible job of porting them to the PC just like with Bully.

It’s funny you mention that because if one looks at the front page of Manhunt‘s reviews on Steam, the overwhelming amount of Not Recommended reviews pop up, and it’s just funny to read them.

Both Manhunt 1 and 2's steam ports are criminally bad. Same with Bully. They have serious audio issues and graphical glitches that need to be fixed with patches. Your paying for games that are basically broken.

Atari, yes, it's almost entirely nostalgia. Some games are playable but nothing to go out of your way to play beyond perhaps historical curiosity.

NES is largely in a similar position but at least it has some very notable exceptions. I also think, to be fair, if people like ball crushing difficulty then there's still a lot there unlike Atari, but finding something balanced worth playing is rare.

The ONE 2600 game I'll defend a still legit fun even now is a niche case, admittedly, but Warlords. With 4 players, with the paddles, that game is still a lot of fun as a party game even now. I'm not saying The Youths of Today would care, but a lot of us old timers still enjoy it.

So basically for Christmas I want to build my 5 year old son a 90's edutainment PC gaming (basically the games from here: https://www.buzzfeed.com/williambarrios/90s-learning-computer-games) I grew up with. Teach him the idea of a file system, using a mouse/keyboard, along with some entertainment that isnt completely pozzed yet.

I'm thinking all I need to do grab a min-pc during Black Friday, throw on a Windows 95/DOS Box VM and I should be good to go. Anything else I should consider?

I can't comment on the hardware/vm side of things, but when it comes to mid 90s edutainment, I'd suggest Encarta. That was everywhere when I was a kid, and the secret game was fairly common knowledge, as well as a few pages that had low res video clips people would watch repeatedly. I'd imagine it's all outdated by now, but might be worth including.

LGR Edutainment Month series might be of interest to you, but it's mostly the games in the list you posted.

Be sure to include Chip's Challenge as well. It came on Windows 95 most of the time, but I think it might only be certain versions that had it.

Sounds like a good plan over trying to source old computer parts and struggling to make it work. Sales on mini PCs are hot and heavy nearly all year, but I've seen some great deals as Black Friday approaches.
