¿Can someone confirm how involved has Scott been with the community in the last years?

Because i don't think him, someone that supposedly "cares" about RA would see the growing amount of deadweight troons setting camp on the page, the users and devs taking their shit and leaving and the growing resentment of the users who are one bad move away from joining the latter and think that the page is going to end well

Unless that's what he actually wants to happen

Scott basically conceptualized and created a website that would give you dopamine dings for beating a level in Sonic without dying, and when his site attracted a community of autists that were a lot better at creating achievement challenges than him, he largely sat back and let the site run itself until a couple days ago, when he got contacted by a bunch of trannies screeching about his site having a "nazi problem". Had XKeeper not tracked him down, he probably wouldn't even have known there was recent drama on his site at all.

What he wants to happen is basically just to go back to being able to sit back with a beer and not get yelled at by people for stuff he has no actual involvement in.

I tried going through some of the replies to the announcement on bluesky. I've never been on there before, nor do I have an account. It sadly is just an echo chamber. Basically agree with us, or your a nazi, lets start making a list of people that support this. Attempting to bully Nepiki (hamster guy) into banning people. Trying to look at all this stuff made me want to take a break from this shit.

I had the intention of screencapping some stuff but was just disgusted. You can view all the stuff on blue sky without an account. I don't even know if it's worth it for anybody to look through. Maybe to get a laugh.

Stay safe kiwi bros and broetts. Let's all remember to go outside once in a while, and interact with people we may not agree with so we don't become like these retards .

Bullying Nepiki won't do anything, lol. He learned how to deal with trolls posting with the Backloggery retards for years, he'll make a token attempt to smooth things over and then block them when it's obviously not going to work.

I was curious how many people might be bitching about all the support tele is getting. It's starting to get around that other communities are talking about this too. I've seen some screencaps of the discussion on 100Pals being reposted here and there.

When an achievement set is uploaded, it signals that we promote, facilitate, and reward players for experiencing that game. To many, this looks like an endorsement of the game’s content. To live up to the ideals we believe in, RetroAchievements must ensure that the content it supports remains within legal and broadly acceptable standards. This is why we do not support titles such as The Guy Game, which is illegal to own or distribute.

So this is interesting. The justification for not having achievements for Clover is that hosting achievements for it means that "we promote, facilitate, and reward players for experiencing that game." It seems like they're making a statement that for any game that is still on the site, they are promoting, facilitating, and rewarding the players for experiencing that game. A lot of people have pointed out that they're (now explicitly) endorsing the content of games like GTA, and they're using the ESRB ratings to justify hosting those games: the ratings board has said the game is okay to play, so they'll defer to them.

What I haven't seen is any discussion of their (now explicit) endorsement for playing these games from a legal perspective. Take, for example, Nintendo World Championships 1990. According to Wikipedia, there's something like 353 gray cartridges and another 26 gold cartridges, for a total of ~400 copies if we're being generous. However, if we check Retro Achievements, we can see that there have been 622 players. In order for all those to be legal, all of the owners of those cartridges have to have a RA account, plus about ~200 had to have sold their cartridge to someone else who also made a RA account. If I go on ebay, I can see what I assume is an authentic cartridge available for $20,000, and counterfeits for $50.

My understanding is that emulators are legal, and ROMs are legal so long as you actually own the game. If I own the game I can rip my own ROM, or I can download the ROM from the internet, or I can upload it to the internet so that other people who own the game can download it without having to rip their own. However, if I download a ROM for a game that I don't actually own, that's piracy. My understanding is that all the ROM sites on the internet skate by because they say you need to own the game to download the ROM. It's extremely easy to pirate the ROM, probably easier than getting the game from ebay even if money wasn't a problem.

So my question is this: Do the admins think people are trading around $20,000 cartridges to get points on their website, or are they promoting, facilitating and rewarding players for pirating the ROM? Furthermore, even if it isn't an airtight case, is it one that Nintendo might want to try suing over anyway? Would RA be able to afford a lawsuit with Nintendo?

your mistake is assuming xhey actually care doe, its a stick to wave around when a brave stunning xis clittyleaks over a game being chuddy o algo. piracy is an open secret everywhere and there's this whole ritual in 'cord servers about how I'D NEVER EVER EVER EVER SHARE A ROM DUMP but its so obvious no one except autists care and just wanna look squeaky clean for nintendo even doe xey financially rape anyone in their sights

I think they know everyone is pirating and no one cares, which is fine by me, but they have to maintain that everything they're doing is legal or Nintendo might sue them. I'm wondering if the new policy could lead them to getting sued.

HippopotamusRex is the third ranked player on the site and streams himself doing sets on Twitch. Even he's getting fed up with this shit. I want to see more big players on the site coming up to bat. I'm gonna keep an eye on his profile, if he gets banned for what he said I would be seriously concerned with the future of the website.

RA is trying to radicalize their users lmao.

Keep an eye on Sarconius too, the #1 player. He reached Twitch partnership by marathoning and 100%ing some of the hardest sets on the site. I haven't watched his channel in a while but he's kind of selectively a dick and I feel like he just doesn't acknowledge rainbow shit because he just wants to obsess over achievements. He might say something if it gets to rough as he can be outspoken when he wants to be.

I like these recent posts calling for people to just "follow the guidelines the site set", when the "guidelines" they're referring to are not the ones that were in place for years, but the ones that were forced a couple days ago by people that refused to just follow the guidelines the site set.

Up until earlier this year, I'd say anyone thinking Nintendo was going to sue them was swinging too high. They aren't hosting ROMs, so Nintendo isn't likely to care much. I say 'until earlier this year' because that's when the Switch 2 was released. Now, Nintendo has the start of a formal achievement tracking system. If they extend it to include the Virtual Console, or eventually to function similar to PSN or Steam, then I could see them sending papers to RA. I don't want to hear any excuses about the dubious legality of them suing RA, Nintendo has literally never cared about the legality around sending in the attack lawyers. And I can't imagine Scott will fight it much. He folded when a mad troon made three posts, he'll crumble under a billion dollar company rolling up with money bag shaped paddle.

On an administration level? Minimally, this entire incident has been the first time he's vocal about issues in the community in quite some time, even years. Usually, the other members of the staff handle operations for him. The dude is a normalfag for the most part. Much of his contributions and dev work were in his earlier years. The big reason why this has wound up poorly for the userbase has been the fact that he's just ill-equipped for policing troons and having principles.
It's even worse when you realise that Scott gets paid to do the bare minumun (Patreon), don't get me wrong, if you are pretty lax with the users on your site, i don't mind if you get paid while sitting on your ass and doing nothing or doing the bare minimun, problem is: he is sitting of his ass doing the bare minimun and compromising the people that uses his site by siding with mentally ill manchilds who bully or harass long time users just for having different beliefs
On one hand, Nintendo carpet bombing the site would be funny and stop the troon corruption from spreading

On the other, they would probably cry foul and try to spin it as "Nintendo attacking """""innocent""""" people who enjoys their games just to be dicks" just to make a smoke screen to cover all the vile shit they did/say

Longtime user fed up.
Sorry think I posted it out of order.
