I love RetroAchievements. There's no better way to add replayability to games of old than adding achievements to them. They're helpful in logging my progress in games I play... even if I suck at them. (Savestates reign supreme.)
But I'm very disappointed that they culled Pokemon Clover for being racist and offensive. If a game cannot be hosted for being racist then what does that say about every GTA game, which includes sexism, racism, and sexual innuendos? There's double standards here. Not to mention
Touhoumon Insane, a romhack that's as crude as clover but lacks the charm that makes clover funny.
Even though I could argue that the racist pokemon are presented in a way like
South Park in that they are meant to make fun of EVERYONE, that still won't matter to the average person who hasn't played the game. They'll just see either Vandash or Furnazi and condemn the entire game by these pokemon's existence.
Now of course, the average person would be offended by Vandash and I wouldn't blame them. But I, personally, don't care. It does its job and offended me. It is weird for me typing this message defending dark humour like this but at the end of the day, humour is subjective and I can't let myself sway by wrongthink.
And also, not all Clovermons are stereotypes. Some reference meme culture
and others are simply cool designs that can pass off as real pokemon (in my opinion)
That's not all though, the game also has the best boss battles I've played in a romhack since Unbound. They do bosses way better than the usual pokemon Romhack schlock where they follow 2 steps:
1) slap a Pokemon Showdown set onto every gym leader's pokemon so fighting them is the most unfun bullshit ever and
2) bloat every route with 23 encounters even though 20 of them are chaff who instantly fold to said gym leader's overpowered team. But it doesn't matter because every nuzlocke youtuber can gobble it up.
With clover, the bosses are hard, but they're doable with any combination of pokemon. It also helps that the encounters before each gym help with what gym you're facing.
I could go on, talking about the writing and funny references, the MUSIC! but the point is, pokemon clover isn't the game people want you to think it is. It makes fun of everything, and it succeeds. Although not having achievements for it stings, it really doesn't matter. I can enjoy the game all I want and await the upcoming Clover 2.0 release regardless of how loud annoying faggots scream telling me it's an "evil product made by the hackers known as the 4Chan."
But here's the thing, I'm not a 4channer, I never plan to be. I just have a high tolerance for humour.
Also, I've noticed on KF that "troon" is used a lot here.
Good to know that Clover has a mon for that.
