Some of the factual arguments he gives though are a bit annoying and it's hard not to see this move as just another episode of his theatrical purity spiraling. He's a flawed man pointing out weaknesses in a church that took him back with his history and reputation. He's a church shopping American complaining about a lack of authenticity of Armenian monasteries. He's a sinner publicly scolding his former parish for dirty secrets and fakery. Perhaps the church needs some forgiving and rebuilding just like Roosh does.

I understand the need for a strong guidance. Once again though, having a praying corner and desiring "active miracle-working icons" feels a bit like a way to demonstrate a faith, rather than deepen it. Roosh is an intelligent enough man to grasp a more abstract, intimate approach to faith but he chooses the more bombastic aesthetics at every turn. I can tell he lives a minimalist life, yet he seeks all this physical stuff for his prayer. It's like some sort of a medieval LARP.
And I'm only commenting it because he's making it all very public. I wouldn't have otherwise.
I think this is part of his cultural upbringing. That theatricality is common to all Eastern denominations and even people who are private (i.e. not always online) exhibit pretty similar excesses in devotion sometimes. I'm willing to bet his grandma had a corner of the house dedicated to incense, saintly icons, and other religious art. In much the same way as you often see foreign-born Catholics with decked-out home altars.

We outside the Orthodox Church affectionately tease them as loving "smells and bells" for a good reason. Orthodoxy relies on a certain theatricality of rite and worship to reinforce the majesty of the supernatural, but moreso even than Catholics do in some ways. Him reaching for that rote worship and desiring the... I guess you could call it the appearance of orthodoxy? I'm not sure how else to describe it. But there always seemed to me to be a sense in which the production of it was integral to it being votive enough.

Anyway I can imagine some of it might be church-shopping, but I can also see how someone raised the way he was finds the theatricality necessary. He does talk about how his church has lost a lot of the elements it used to, and I'm gonna go on a limb and guess that they were things that he had in that church as a child and wants back.

I've heard him say it before and he repeated the point in this blog post - he grew up with pretty much nothing Armenian:
I was not raised with an Armenian identity. My mother was born in Istanbul and is much closer to Turkish culture than Armenian. Her relatives and friends all prefer to speak Turkish. While she stayed in the Church, and decided for me to be baptized as a child, she taught me nothing culturally or spiritually Armenian

So it's like going back to a tradition that was never his (even with the Armenian, let alone Russian church). "Appearance of orthodoxy" is a good way to put it. I remember the first change about him when he entered this new episode of his life two years ago was that he started growing a massive beard.

I'm surprised he's still going with the Orthodox LARP, but I'm even more surprised that he seems to have accreted at least a few readers who think it's serious.

I wonder if he still speaks to his parents. (From today's stream, potato quality.)

RVF was always more than a PUA or MRA forum.

It was a male safe space for men to bitch about women, about other men that enable them. But it was never nasty (ok, it was sometimes). Very few men there really cared about picking up women. Most of them knew they were too fucked up/crippled/autistic/poor. The posters, I mean. It was a safety valve.

What roosh has done is a gross betrayal of the men that made that forum great. If his conversion and being born again was genuine, then great, but many think it's not.

Sure, it was full of the most throbbing fucking losers you could ever hope to meet, and conversely, the real players, did I say 'playahz'? kept their deals pretty close to their chest. Like any other forum. Some genuine friendships were born by some of the more high value men there that could travel to meet. Most of them have settled down now, or are contemplating a life without a wife/kids, regretting it, and maybe doing what they can to put that right while they can, and all without betraying your buddies and/or finding fucking god.

I won't be too hard on Roosh. He lost his head when his sister died. It happens. I've seen it happen first hand. The betrayal of his brothers though, he will never live down. But it was always going to happen. Being talked about in the houses of parliament. Banned on flights in to the UK. He got some serious pressure. Full on articles in the Guardian.

Roosh isn't really very charismatic. He's 6'4" - so quite tall and swarthy and he lifts a bit. But he's also autistic in that PDD/NOS kind of way. He always seemed a bit off to the girls, and certainly also to the 'boys'. Having said that, he did betray them in one of the worst ways possible.

He'll get by, he won't pay a price. It's not that kind of betrayal where the Hell's Angels curb stomp you. No one ever put that kind of store in Roosh. But it was a betrayal none the less.

He won't get beaten up. And now that he has submitted to the machine and been consumed by the machine, he is no longer a threat or on anyone's radar. He did ex fucking zactly what he should have done to acquiesce. Not that I am brow-beating him for giving in. I would have given in long before him, or at least not stirred the fucking hornet's nest so much with 'legal rape' satire, beforehand. Roosh isn't a rapist. He never was, he never will be. He was a bit edgy for a while and spoke a lot of edgy nonsense. He had a deep relationship with his sister. Men who have deep relationships with their sisters, tend not to become rapists of women.

It's what cut him up in the end. And why I think he should just be left alone to try to build whatever kind of cult it is he is trying to build.

But now he has made the forum only for those with belief. It's become more of a cult. Almost all the old guard have gone now. A few notables remain. A few anomalies. But I won't mention their names as I think they will fade in the next year or two. It will become the wrong kind of Christians next, in the form of 'Protestants'.

Roosh made a big thing about not 'becoming your own pope', and someone made the pithy remark: 'well, we can't become our own pope, but Roosh can become his own priest'.

Proselytizing to his minions.

He is taking some kind of religious authority over his flock and ministering in matters he is not qualified to do so.

It is one thing spreading the word of Christ. I respect that. I always have time for genuine believers. But Roosh, whilst he may think he is a genuine believer, does not have that greater authority.

I am not offended through Christ.

I'm just noting the many men betrayed by him. Most of whom have just moved on. They have wives and family and kids now. And the few that made genuine friendships there are too busy to be angry.

It's probably best it all died. It was a flawed concept to start with. But it helped many men get their feet on the ground and forge some real relationships with other men, at least for a while. Even if 90 percent of them there were fucking losers, just like Roosh turned out to be.

I wish Roosh well. He will need it. But his minions and followers now who do his bidding had better watch their back in this new world they jumped in to.

RVF was always a deep fucking place. Not many knew the culture at all. Even the people posting there with 9000 posts. And outsiders very rarely got a grip on it at all either, apart from MRA and PUA BAAAAADDDD!!!!!!

A most fascinating sub-culture.

I think Roosh will get away with his betrayal. It won't ever be accepted to be right. He has burned his bridges. But he will get over it. He won't need to look over his shoulder, because the men he betrayed have moved on anyway, and aren't the type of 'biker gang' killers you read about in fantasy fiction. It's sad.

His move closer to god will do more harm and turn more men away from Christ, than it entices in to the fold. But he is too fucking egotistical to realise that.

Hope you find your own way out!

Roosh wasn't the worst of them when it came down to it.

And even if he won't become the best of them, I think he did the best he could...

So Roosh hasn't been promoting his "bang" series on his website for a while, which is admirable. To keep his secularly conservative "Lady" on sale and in accordance with his 2021 values, he's adding a prologue to correct its non-orthodox content.

Quotes redacted for brevity. Finding A Husband With God’s Help, June 7 2021

When he quit the career he's known for, some speculated he was - besides the personal trauma he had experienced - partially motivated by money, after seeing people like Jordan Peterson making their somewhat conservative content very profitable. But he must be losing a lot of money by going this fringe. Which adds to my rekindled fascination.

I suspect part of it is that the grift simply had to change. I don't think he could have continued much longer as a public PUA troll without being branded "the godfather of incel terrorism". Wasn't he already getting banned from countries and put on no-fly lists toward the end?

Yeah, well, the thing is he's not doing anything specific now that he wasn't able to do before. And he hasn't made himself more PC by this - instead of Jews and women it's now Jews and Satan + extreme anti-vax. I'd say he's still one of the most banned people - except he's making less money now than he used to.

These guys shift their grift to wherever the hottest front of the culture wars are at any given moment. Remember when Roosh was starting a video game site, unfortunately a little past Peak Gamergate? Or how Milo went from anti feminism to video games to generic alt-right politics to tradcath stuff? Or the way Vox Day bounced from PUA to Science Fiction/Sad Puppies to Gamergate to movies to comic books?

Someone here compared Roosh's conversion to the one of Milo. Yesterday they had a 2.5h stream together and it was genuinely entertaining - barely any people dropped and the chat got pretty wild. Basically, aside from liking each other they seem to have a disagreement on how much one should get involved in the world (the Christian monk vs Christian rottweiler dichotomy) and whether conversions to the Eastern orthodoxy are genuine. Roosh got extremely preachy and Milo had a bunch of ADD fits.

I clipped a few bits (the desync is on Milo's part), in a random order:

A boring stream today, a lot of pride related articles. The Q&As were a bit more interesting.

00:00 - yeah, I was preachy when talking to Milo
02:15 - the manosphere can only ever be a stepping stone
04:00 - guns will not save you, God will
05:45 - not moving to southern Alabama, the rot will come everywhere

What the fuck? Nice beard, faggot.

I could never LARP into a church I have no cultural connection with. I can't even bring myself to go to big non-denoms and evangelical churches to check out the tradder-than-average wives there (and they ARE there, trust me). I'm not a faker by nature and it's also cheesy as fuck.

This guy did the same thing that a divorced and jaded 45-year-old Eastern European immigrant woman might do. Only he has no cultural connection whatsoever to the church, and it's a pretty intensive and unusual church, not in the Western style at all. It's Byzantine Catholicism, real blast from the past. Great for feeling very holy as you observe the 150th fast day of the year (lol you're supposed to fast 2 days every week too) and abstain from sex with your wife (marital fasting), it's not very good however for just being a normal person. Much to the convert's dismay, cultural Orthodox don't go to every vesper and contemplate the teachings of Theodosius Shithead. They're basically like modern Catholics who maybe go to church once a week and fornicate on slow days.

I just wanna re-iterate.... this guy did what an old WOMAN might do in her desperate search for spiritual and social relief. OK, sure, whatever... but if he's really serious about it (and boy is he acting serious), why doesn't he shut the fuck up and enter the monastery? There's a bunch of them around the country. That's a real "shit-test" for ya, Surajawin or whatever your name is. At least save the muslim beards for the clergy, I don't think I've ever seen a regular parishioner trying to grow a Patriarch beard.

I'm gonna word vomit, here, now that I found this thread. For context: I participate in both right-wing circles and the redpill manosphere. Here's how I see Roosh's new character arc.

I don't think there's a single manosphere person that is not right-wing to far-right. Back when Roosh was operating he was one of The Three R's of the Manosphere: Rollo, Roissy, Roosh. Roissy is now on Gab complaining about Jews. Rollo is still around and being awesome and no nonsense, but is/was a closet Trumper. Roosh is where you see him now. All of them were or moved to the Right, some further than others. Roosh went Far Right.

Where the Far Right has been going is more and more to high church Christian morality. It's to the point that Far Right non-Christians are alienated from most Far Right boards and groups. Roosh fell into that. The Social Proof persuaded him to convert. And the fact that a pick up artist from Washington DC converted to Greek Orthodox is proof that it was the internet that made him do it. On those boards, the "Ortho-bros" are loud and shout down Catholic Far-Righters as supporting "globohomo" and pedophiles. Milo was entirely correct in that interview: Roosh joined the Orthodox to avoid the pedophile priest label and because the internet "bullied him into it." We all know Roosh did not get here by studying comparative theology and church history.

The Grift: I don't think Roosh is grifting at all. What's he selling now? A speaking event once a year? My personal theory is that Roosh got sick of the pick up artist lifestyle and/or he got a sexual dysfunction. If you listen to men in that lifestyle, it is exhausting and burns you out. He wanted out and the internet Far Right gave him an out. I think what people are detecting with the grift thing is the disingenuousneous of a DC pickup artist converting to Greek Orthodox. That is explained above: Protestants are hated on in the Far Right boards, Catholics are hated on by Prots and Orthos, only Orthos get away without hate other than being different because no one on those boards come from an Orthodox country that can tell you that church has its own problems, too. So, the Orthos win the purity spiraling contest and Rightists convert to that.

If Roosh wanted to grift, he would have moved into the "Christian RedPill" part of the Manosphere. Go and tell Christian guys how to find a wife using redpill knowledge while lamenting his past life as a poor example. That's the real grift, there, if he wanted to grift. Otherwise, there was no reason why he couldn't keep being part of the manosphere that is still growing. He burned out.

Out of the two, I like Milo's "conversion" better because if you follow his work (and I do) it was a long time coming and thus far more genuine and sincere. In his book "Diabolic" about Catholicism's pedo problem he stated that if he knew if that priest would destroy his life and keep him from having a wife and family he would have killed him. In his Joe Rogan interview, Milo said that if he could take a pill that would make him straight, he would do it. Milo was never happy being a homo, and, unlike Roosh, was always a part of his church.

I like Roosh's old writings. I still don't see why Roosh did not move into the "Christian RedPill" part of the Manosphere. Go and tell Christian guys how to find a wife using redpill knowledge while lamenting his past life as a poor example. That's the real grift, there, if he wanted to grift.

Yeah, so based on the latest stream, Roosh is seriously expecting the end of times. It's turning pretty dark.

Thankfully, he doesn't forget to share medical advice so that you can keep your cavities intact for the apocalypse. Funniest scene in a while.
Covid testing is a nose sodomy, colonoscopy is a butt rape, X-ray is also of a suspiciously penetrating nature (clipped from Roosh Hour #68, Aug 7)

The sides of his beard are completely gray, but the rest of his hair is mostly black. Why is that?
