I'm hoping that Barb and Chris are at least making payments on the reverse mortgage when they can. If they manage to pay it off or down enough where it could be paid upon Barb's death with life insurance (if she even has that anymore), Chris could keep it. Not holding my breath.

This morning, I have seen the latest AAG commercial on television and it turned out it was always about the first person to do reverse mortaging named Nellie whom in 1961 lost a relative and kept the house from selling, so that she can enjoy retirement in peace. But Barb?

Was Tom Selleck still on it? That might have been a primary reason Barb took the bait. Hubba, hubba!

You don't pay back a reverse mortgage until you die, or if you move out of the residence. Its supposed to be a way for grandma to unlock any equity in her home so she can enjoy her golden years a bit more.

Not just one, but apparently THREE reverse mortgages. I remember not too long ago that there were some members insisting up and down that Barb hadn't taken out reverse mortgages. I guess they just couldn't comprehend just how selfish Barb really is.

Honestly, listening to Null talking about dealing with Chris, it just reinforces my belief that Chris is a lost cause. No amount of help or bailouts is going to fix Chris' future. Chris has wilfully destroyed any kind of normal life he potentially could have had because he insists on living in his fantasy world where his ego is constantly stroked. It's Null's life and he's free to do whatever he wants with it, but I think he's just setting himself up for disappointment and frustration.
Trying to fix Chris is like trying to reignite a star that collapsed into a black hole almost immediately after its birth. Like, maybe it’ll consume what you feed it, but it’ll still never emit a single ray of light again and you need to run the fuck away right now before you get sucked in.

Trying to fix Chris is like doing reconstructive surgery on roadkill. The concept might make sense on paper but all you’ll do is waste your time and give yourself strange illnesses.

That's usually what people do, but there is usually an option for early, pre-deadening payments. Tom Selleck tolds me so! :left:

Selfish? It's Barb's house. The state views Chris as a competent adult. Barb isn't even obligated to put a roof over the transvestite's head. I'm not on the side of either party, but Chris certainly is a beast of burden on everyone he interacts with.

Just a burden, actually. "Beast of burden" implies that he can carry heavy things (besides TEN TON DOGHOUSES) and walk long distances.

The best metaphor for interacting with Chris in general, is that Chris is like time travel.

Don’t touch anything, just observe... Because any changes you introduce or make will result in unforeseen consequences. And always for the worse.

“The state views Chris as a competent adult”

Hmm... Yeah... And obviously the state is never wrong, hmm?

Technically all you wrote is true.

Just like technically, my cat is a predator and would survive just fine if I loaded it into a car, drove 50 miles and let it out.

In reality Chris is like a pet who’s been so domesticated and coddled that it’s totally unlikely that it would survive on its own.

That’s of course mainly Barb’s fault, since the one job of a parent is to raise their children into being functioning adults.

Barb decided to piss all over that task, so Chris is still her responsibility.

Morally, maybe, but she's an old woman who was probably suffering from mental illness before she spread her legs for Bob. She literally fucked up both her kids due to being an insane, slutty harpie. I just really don't share the same sympathy for Chris because I know he's more full of himself than Barb. Barb is selfish, but Chris is a literal megalomaniac. I listened to Null's stream, and I just feel like pulling my hair out because I know the only time Chris will change is on his deathbed after suffering a massive heart attack...maybe not even then. After Barb's death, I will continue to say, "I told you so!!!", and Chris will prove me right if he hasn't jumped off a bridge at someone's behest. I just have a very low tolerance for stuff and after feeling bad for him and then being disappointed, I learned to take my hand off the stove. I still stand by my feelings because life doesn't care of Chris is autistically psychotic. Bob could have done a lot of things to ensure that Barb didn't mess up the house.

She knows Chris will be incapable of maintaining rent or paying off the house. He could have taken care of things like paying the property taxes when the house was paid off. But instead of taking a public defender she had to put them both back into deep debt by hiring Rob Bell, then fucked any chance Chris once had of having a stable home after she dies. Most parents want the best for their children, want them to be as stable and secure as they can be when they're gone. Barb couldn't give a shit less about Chris' security and happiness. So yes, Barb is fucking selfish. What more could we have expected from the "World's Best Mother"? And poor Chris will defend her until his dying breath, never once considering the huge fucking over she gave him.

Poor Chris. The problem with that is Barb isn't most mothers. I think you're failing to notice a pattern. Chris defends to death anything that is bad for him and trashes or takes advantage of anything that's good for him like Null. I'm not defending Barb, and she is responsible for Chris' upbringing, but he is capable of taking some responsibility for his actions. As an adult, Barb is not responsible for every single thing that has gone wrong with Chris. Even though it was too late both she & Bob attempted to course correct several times, but ultimately, I think Chris needs to be committed just like people suggested when he was a child. Also, please remember, we're coming up on 2021, so we'll see how this all plays out.

Oh, I recognize the pattern. I feel absolutely no sympathy for Chris and feel he deserves everything that's coming to him for actively rejecting any help or working towards improving himself in any way. I can recognize that Barb completely fucked Chris over because she's a selfish whore without siding with Chris or feeling bad for him.

And no one suggested to Bob and Barb that Chris be committed when he was younger. The faculty at Chris' elementary told the Chandlers that Chris was beyond their scope of ability and expertise to continue to teach and manage, and said he needs to go to a dedicated school for retards where the faculty has training and experience to manage someone as low-functioning as Chris. The Chandlers, being old enough to be Chris' grandparents and having grown up when actual mental asylums were still a thing (and back when families would often dump their developmentally challenged children and forget they exist) mistakenly believed that the Greene County School District wanted to commit Chris because they didn't understand what they were being told.

Touche, but didn't they go ape shit and interpret that as Greene County wanting to put Chris away in a place with the slow in the minds just like him.

LOL, sorry just read the rest of this. But yes, they did believe this, so instead of putting Chris away, which they rightfully knew was an appropriate action, they freaked out like feral cats in heat and dragged Chris off somewhere and told him he was a special genius being persecuted by people who were jealous of their miracle baby.
I do agree that Barb was a selfish person, but they're older than boomers had no idea how to raise a ticking timebomb like Chris.

I do believe though that despite their generational gap in understanding the significance of people who have mental disorders was out of touch with what people were telling Barb and Bob at the time, they really just should have seen some of the signs in Chris and come to senses and say "Hey this boy ain't right, he needs help, maybe I should have listened to them" so he could have gotten the help he needed and we wouldn't be witnessing the confused swamp monster thing we're talking about now.

We don't really know If Bob ever regretted that choice not.

You ever seen that video of the Chandler Christmas from 2004? When Chris is trying to "persuade" Bob to accept the VHS of Fraggle Rock instead of the DVD of Fraggle Rock Bob has this look of complete depression on his face. If he didn't realize it by then, that was the point when he realized his 22 year old son was going to act like an eight year old forever. Bob knew his son was beyond his help at that point but I think he was too stubborn to ever admit that his son needed any kind of help outside a stern talking to and a monthly welfare check.

This makes me wonder how Chris would fare if he starts becoming either an drug addict or an alcoholic.

No, Chris is much more like a 4-5 year old. How depressing indeed. Children at the age of 8 at least have a theory of mind.

I'll trade you some pogs for that heroin. My anus is at leat worth 5,000. C'mon, you know I'm good for it. I won that Sega competition. Don't leave me out here, Tyrone. I got a baby that needs to sleep!
