At least it seems like the anime girls are covered up this time around. I remember playing Sound Voltex at the arcade for the first time and experiencing embarrassment due to how graphic the song jackets were. Egregious upskirt shots and gratuitous cleavage galore.

I find it amusing that their chief complaint about DDR World is about the announcer sounding like “artificial intelligence” when Bemani original songs have sounded very similar to each other for almost 20 years.

"AI Generated" is a pretty dumb take. AI couldn't possibly do the small touches on the updated character designs or make a cohesive UI.

They did a lot of good things with WORLD but the core is still an issue. There aren't that many new songs (which is a byproduct of GaaS DLC, unlocks, etc) and there aren't that many places to play it.

The UI/UX is better than it was - it's cleaner and simpler, even if it's more boring. There are changes that I hope get made but long term it's basically just a new mix. It's neat if you already play at a place that has it (aka Round1) but doesn't matter if you aren't playing in those specific locations. If you're playing on a machine locked on A20+ then you're going to lose functionality and songs soon - doing even more damage to the game long term.

I really don't know why they didn't just make A4 (or A3+ or whatever) if they didn't have that many songs prepared but I've given up trying to figure out Konami.

I kind of disagree. My biggest gripe with the UI is how cumbersome it is to reach for a specific group of songs by game. If you want to, let's say, only pick A3 songs, you have to go all the way to "all songs", push 6 on the numpad, remove the filters on by default, only select the "A3" filter while making sure there are no other filters on, then you get to pick your song.

A 20 and A3? Just scroll to the game section you were looking for.

It's not complicated but tedious and on some instances I've ran out of time. Also, it seems that some songs from A3 are not available in World, Sparkle Dreams for instance wasn't there.

The trade off is you can advanced filter for songs. So I can just say "Show me all 9, 10, and 11 difficulty songs from these mixes" and it just gives me those without forcing me to wade and manually search for them.

I agree the default (unfiltered) should have been a list of all songs by mix, reminiscent of the old machines - which seems like a huge miss on what should have been an easy win.

i never saw a reach so wild that it spins around and becomes pure humor.

Sound Voltex in the US has apparently been censored with the latest update.

Some NSFW jackets have been censored (but not all) similar to the Korean version, the title screen has been completely wiped of characters, and the default Exceed Gear navigator Rasis has been completely removed (but not her system voice). Oddly enough the NSFW loli navigators are still there (not linking here for obv reasons). The rrat currently going around is that a Karen at a US R1 complained.

Good. This game has been a gross pedo fantasy since day one.

Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but the RGC at large saw an explosive uptick in trannies when this game hit the scene.

Bassdrop Freaks' jacket is straight up, unambiguously lolicon foot fetish material.

I gotta agree with this person though...
Heavy Rain and Origin Pulsation's girls even have the exact same vacant expression on their faces.

Yeah, that's something I've wanted to complain about but could never quite articulate. It's not just the jackets, so many of the songs are loli-voiced garbage that all runs together. I would be so, so happy if DDR had more of this:

and none of this:

There's been such little variety in DDR for a long time now. Worse yet, that seems to be the case with every rhythm game. Remember when Pump it Up and DJ Max had hip hop and rock music? Seems like we'll never see that again.

Sound Voltex is a funny one. Whenever I go to a Round 1 there's always normal people playing DDR, Pump, Guitadora and even Beatmania. Yet, I've never seen a normal person play Sound Voltex. Anyone who plays that game is always an overweight weeaboo with an anime backpack and anime clothing (I've even seen a fat dork with a Bluey shirt playing SV). At best, there's a clueless boy or girl that liked the pretty led's on the controller.

Bringing this back up because lol.

I missed the original tweet, but the same tranny that stole the Sound Voltex dongle stole another dongle at Towson and ended up getting arrested.

Happy 9/11 to all the rhythm gamers! :semperfidelis:

I thought the dongles were tied to their specific hard drives, so stealing a dongle wouldn't do much good if you don't also have that particular drive?
