I'd heard he was spotted at a Costa Vida restaurant near me, though this was a little over a year back. Given where I'm at, I'd honestly believe it even though this is sort of a po-dunk low-population place. If it was actually him, I wonder how often he's in the area.

Most likely a reference to Oswald Spengler's Decline of the West. Spengler described Western high culture as Faustian, its distinguishing features being a sense of open limitless space and striving for the unattainable infinite.

It's really funny how Spencer and far-right types idolize Spengler's work. While Spengler was definitely a conservative who admired Prussian aristocracy and criticized democracy, he disliked the biological racism popular in his day, found the Nazis to be vulgar populist demagogues, and loathed anti-Semites. I doubt Spengler would like all the attention from the alt-right, guys who don't really care about his inquiries into spiritualism, creativity, and the development of cultures but only use his critiques of democracy as a prop for their political narratives.

Not that strange really, people can like a thing even if it doesn't 100% align with them. You can be on the Right and still like Zizek. It's not like they can ONLY read holocaust denial books.

Yeah but that means the concept itself has legs, it means it has value regardless of how much the person may not like you personally. Richard Spencer is a great example, you can be on the alt right and catholic even though he's a gay pagan. His fallout with the Right is mainly people just don't like his ideas or behavior, they could probably forgive all the other shit if he was doing anything other than doing awful movie reviews and complaining that nobody is as effective as him.

Which is funny, because Spencer has been effective at fuck all except being a boogieman for the left.

As far as the religious angle, Spencer doesn't like the idea of a Christian alt right, and said as much recently on a podcast while complaining about Nick Fuentes and his catboy army.

What makes someone "our guy" is pretty open to interpretation, but people tend to take an all or nothing approach. Right wing people in particular for some reason are obsessed with being the mortal enemies of other people on the right over relatively mild disagreements, while deciding that someone they have even bigger disagreements with is "our guy." It all really boils down to petty personal reasons.
