I don't know whether it's just optics and the money involved ($3,000) just isn't enough to endanger the rest of the case, or to justify setting it up correctly. The best he’s got is proof of no criminal record, but that has fuck all to do with claims of emotional abuse. No claims of assault or physical abuse were never made as he well knows.

He's mixing and matching the legal assault definition, which is not physically attacking someone, it's making them fearful of it. Which is why it's called 'assault and battery', the battery is the physical attack.
