If your target audience is high school kids, you shouldn't hold your dicks in your hands while they age out of the show.
Yep, Rick and Morty's prime fanbase is already in college and as far as I can tell the show hasn't evolved since goddamn episode 1. Meanwhile people wait 3 years for a new season of The Venture Bros without a complaint, because it has that kind of quality.

I liked the first season of Rick and Morty. Season 2 is okay, but didn't have the same charm. I didn't even bother with 3 and will disregard 4 and beyond. It's too bad about what this show has become. Season 1 should have been a miniseries and stopped there.
Season 2 is my favorite with S1 being the second favorite...and yeah, I agree. Perhaps the show should have had only two seasons or have three but have S3 actually be at least passable.

Was there even any hype surrounding this 4th season? I remember when the 3rd season was officially announced, it practically broke the internet. I didn't have a clue that the 4th season was happening until I saw on these boards that the first two episodes had already aired.

I guess Rick and Morty is going the way of one of those shows that can't evolve, like The Big Bang Theory: Pretty amusing and entertaining in its early days/episodes, but overstays its welcome very fast.

Yes, I just compared Rick and Morty to The Big Bang theory. I'm sure there are some high IQ teenagers I've triggered.

My 13 year old nephew is rewatching this crap show and man, in retrospect, this show was leftist garbage even back in S1. The third episode "Anatomy Park" is just painful to rewatch, especially with the poly relationship subplot with Jerry acting like a "selfish dick".

It also doesnt help that the humor of this show somehow feels more inmature than ever now on rewatch...I dont know, it just feels so unbearable now, maybe its me knowing how even worse it gets or maybe its because I actually know of the leftist politics that the creators love to preach about it. It doesnt help that the show just feels like their power fantasy, especially in latter seasons.

...oh and the memes are fucking cancer, Im sorry but they are. It honestly cant end sooner...

Aqua Teen Hunger Force died for this shit... *sigh*

There was also that one episode with the sex segregated aliens that brought up the whole wage gap thing. I thought the whole thing was ironic but now I’m not so sure considering Dan Harmon is one of those male feminist types.

It's just not very funny, that's literally it. There's no feminist or sjw or whatever conspiracy, its just not fucking funny.

That's why I personally don't watch it.
It's not a conspiracy because it's pretty obvious. There is a blatant lefty bias...but that doesn't mean that the show can't be good. A lot of John Carpenter movies have a pretty liberal bias, but they're still good.

Rick and Morty's problem is, as you say, that it's just not funny. But that doesn't mean it's not a progressive shitshow as well.

Summer gets a taste of the new world order as some drunk, lunatic brother jabs her.

Why the hell did she and her friend attempt to "deescalate the situation?" When a crazy jogger shows up to the restaurant you're in and starts waving sharp shit around, that's usually a clue for me and my friends to vanish into the back of the restaurant and hunker down in the walk in freezer.

Sneak preview of 90lb social worker women answering 911 domestic violence calls.

She was lucky she only got slashed, one well placed stab and you are done.

I think the long pauses between seasons is what hurting the most the shows popularity. SU episodes took forever to come out, but at least you had a storyline to keep you checking on the new episodes.

Reactions: Uncanny Valley
My sister made a great observation regarding Dr. Wong's speech: Rick doesn't really take in anything from it. Sure, he apologizes to Beth for lying, but then they decide to go out drinking and it's all but stated they're never seeing Dr. Wong again.
Given that S3 for the most part took the "Lifetime Movie About Abusive Parents" element of the show and made it the literal text of the show instead of a subtext boiling under the surface, I saw the ending and that declaration they were never going back to the therapist to be super chilling (especially Morty's "I liked Dr Wong" line response to it, since she clearly had Beth's number and instantly had Beth dropping her mask of niceness and exposing her as the sort of spineless piece of shit human being who'd hold Morty down for Rick to sexually abuse if she thought actively participating in her father raping her son would keep Rick from leaving her).

In it's own way, Rick and Morty is an evil scarier, bleaker domestic abuse black comedy than Moral Orel. At least Orel was blissfully ignorant of the horrors inflicted upon him and others 99% of the time and had people he could turn to for refuge. Also, Rick is probably a scarier than Clay Puppington at his worst since Clay's own self-hatred keeps him from dominating his household like a tyrant whereas Rick's family abuse is the stuff of nightmares in the way he reeks of the worst of the worst family abusers you read about or see in TV or movie melodramas.

Moral Orel was written by someone who gives a shit about longform storytelling, and not "muh story circle"; a device where you literally bring the character right back to where they were at the start.

That's actually a pretty good comparison since Dan and Dino Stamatopoulos are such good friends irl. You would think with Dino having been a writer on Community for most of the shows run some of that would have rubbed off but I guess ol Hacky Dan thinks just vaguely gesturing at "deep themes" is essentially the same as properly incorporating them.

If you want the humor of Rick and Morty without all the pseudo philosophy and absolutely no Dan Harmon shitting on it then just watch Solar Opposites. Seriously. I find it infinitely more entertaining.
Eh, season 1 was alright, but 2 went fucking nowhere fast. It's all over the place. Spends 80% of the runtime to build up to the Wall plot reveal, and it ends up with a wet fart only setting up the next season reveal.
