I saw VH back in 2012 when they toured after their last album. The closest thing I've ever been to hypnotized was watching him play that 10 minute Eruption/Cathedral solo. He was the fucking best to ever do it.

I hope that God is with his family in this time, and that all of the former members of Van Halen that have feuded over the years, can find peace, and bring honor to a great guitarist memory.

Terrible, I had no idea he was even sick.

Van Halen was the first band I ever really got into and would listen to constantly - I'd pop in my Dad's Van Halen Best of CD, plug in the headphones, and just lose myself listening to it. When I got to see them live in concert years later I was blown away.

RIP legend.

So sad. I only got into Van Halen in the last year or so and I really missed out. At least I got to know the man's legend while he was still with us, if only for a short time.

It sucks, all the great rock legends are dying off, and no-one's stepping up to replace them.

The man completely changed the tonal landscape of electric guitar and helped kick off the shredding 80's. He's on the Mt. Rushmore of the instrument's history alongside Les Paul, Leo Fender, and Jimi Hendrix.
All glory to the king of the dive bombs!

And just like that, the world has gotten a little darker. RIP Eddie Van Halen

This year sucks more every day.

* sad fret-tapping noises*

This year can eat a bowl of foetid camel dicks. Fuck's sake. Pretty soon, every guitarist that got me into playing guitar is going to be dead. :(

Clapton, Page, Richards, May, Gilmour, Iommi and Townshend are still thankfully with us, but that pales in comparison to all the greats we've lost.

Why must the good die? Why do people like russel and chris and boogie get to live yet these guys have to die. Damnit it's unfair it's just not fucking fair
