Hal Blaine - loving father of Michelle Blaine; grandfather of Anthony, Josh, Aaron, Whitney, Tempest, Ever and Lyryk; and inspiration to countless friends, fans and musicians - has passed on today, March 11th, 2019 at the age of 90. May he rest forever on 2 and 4. The family appreciates your outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Hal from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.

He is most known for his work with the Wrecking Crew, a group of musicians who recorded prolifically in the Los Angeles music scene and played behind a large number of musicians in the 1960s and '70s. Blaine played on numerous hits by popular groups, including Nancy Sinatra, Jan and Dean, Elvis Presley, John Denver, the Ronettes, Simon & Garfunkel, the Carpenters, the Beach Boys, the Grass Roots,[2] the 5th Dimension, the Monkees, the Partridge Family, and Steely Dan. He has played on 40 number one hit singles, 150 top ten hits and has performed on, by his own accounting, over 35,000 recorded tracks. He is widely regarded as one of the most prolific drummers in rock and roll history, having "certainly played on more hit records than any drummer in the rock era".[3]

The Wrecking Crew were great. I've read a lot of "how to" books and still recommend Carol Kaye's book on bass to new players.

The songs he did with The Beach Boys is some of my favorite music ever. It's hard to wrap your head around the amount of iconic stuff the Wrecking Crew were involved in.

They would have been legendary if all they were remembered for were Phil Spector's productions. But damn, when you look at the number of hits they performed on, it's just staggering. There's a four-cd compilation that came out a few years back, titled The Wrecking Crew, and it barely scratches the surface of their output.
