RIP Thread

I probably would have enjoyed WKRP in Cincinatti if it had aired starting around 1986 or so. It's not a show I remember seeing in reruns growing up (the local CBC station somehow thought Three's Company was appropriate for weekday afterschool reruns instead) and I think it's one of those sitcoms that you can't watch intact on home video or streaming due to music rights having long expired.

I didn't like WKRP as a kid but liked the theme song. Same with Cheers. It was on in reruns in my area. But I rarely watched it at that time. It wasn't until years later that I enjoyed those shows. Kinda funny how they put on Bosom Buddies at a time where kids could see it in my area. It was 100% ok. These days it would be transphobic.

I did watch Head Of The Class though. Never would have thought back then that the fat student would be a pedo foot freak.

Will I looked this up and now I'm horrified. Goddam that dude sucks

Adding Stephen King to the deadpool list. It's going to suck when he dies even though he's stories are always a grab bag. For every good story there's about two shitty ones.
Yes. I was/is such a big fan of his. I hate how woke he’s become in the past few years but his books left a big impact on my life growing up and his death is going to be one of those rare celebrity deaths that will really get to me

He's a top-tier Twitter sperg and the only person in the world that could get away with writing THAT ONE SCENE FROM "IT" so I think it's safe to say there's gonna be a party when he dies

Is that the one with Screech/Dustin Diamond? More of an asshole and poopsniffing freak as I recall, but then again I may well be out of the loop and he's been turned up to be a chomo as well.

He was a big part of my teenage years and even up until Revival in 2014 was writing decent stuff - even if he wasn't always consistently good.
Then, like a lot of people, he got infected with Trumptardism and couldn't focus on anything else. I just pretend he's already dead. It's easier and doesn't spoil the old books I like.

He's taken shots in his books at the US president no matter who said president was since the 90s. Bashing Trump a couple times is nothing new, nor undeserved. Also The Institute is one of the best things he's written in ages, though before and after I have to agree his output is....not as good. If I wanted criminal/detective stories, I'd go read the classics by Chandler, MacDonald etc. that he tries to emulate.

Also, is that nigger EVER going to finish The Plant before he kicks off for good?

He's one of those guys that you really wish could live forever and just keep on writing stories, but I feel like he's one of those guy's who going to live to be really old, like in his 80s or 90s.

I sincerely doubt he's actually writing on his Twitter, there's a theory it's his lesbian daughter which make perfect sense.

Anything I've read of his in the years since Trump he has been barely mentioned at all, it's not something that gets in the way of the story and characters and like you said, there's always been topical references and digs at the President.

His output over the last decade and change has been pretty damn incredible, The Life of Chuck from If It Bleeds is honestly one of the best things I've read by him.

If It bleeds has to be one of he's worse short story collections a bottom 5 for me. I would say Skeleton Crew is his best and resent best is Just After Sunset. Change my mind.

I gotta go with Everything's Eventual as his best short story/novella collections, followed by Different Seasons, Four Past Midnight, Skeleton Crew and Night Shift to round out the top 5. Gotta agree with If it Bleeds, too. I thought the Life of Chuck was some of the most self-centered fear-of-mortality crap he's ever written and shat into book form (Sorry, @Dom Cruise!) and nothing else in that book jumps out at you the way the short stories in his other collections do.

As an example, "Blockade Billy" was probably the greatest novella in ages that he's put out, and sadly that will almost never become a big screen movie. Bazaar of Bad Dreams would be in the top 5 because of this story and for 'Ur' but unfortunately it also contains some of his most glurgy crap like "Mister Yummy" and a THIRD goddamn haunted car story in 'Mile 81'. (FOURTH if you count Trucks/Maximum Overdrive.)

And for DeathWatch 2022, I am calling Queen Elizabeth II. It's just been TOO goddamn long.
