RIP Thread

Norman Lear dying at 101 was a shock, but not because he died. It’s because of the fact that I had no clue that he was 101 years old.

It’s even wild when one thinks about the fact that Rob Reiner is still around acting like a more senile version of Archie Bunker and George Jefferson mixed together on social media. Either way, I’m mixed since while I remember watching All In The Family, The Jeffersons and Good Times, I can’t help but think that these kinds of shows make today‘s TV ”comedies” look and act pale to me.

It’s sounds almost like “doomer-ism” in some way, but it’s as if people forgot how to be funny on TV, and I think it’s because Norman influenced legitimately almost all TV sitcoms that try to copy his formula.

TL;DR — Norman Lear is a titan, but I don’t know what to feel right now.

Oh, I remember that. Just amazing. Those early years episodes, especially the ones with Archie and George going at it were just priceless. And the episode guest starring Sammy Davis Jr, especially the final scene, was genius

One of the most striking things about Norman Lear is how he went from being one of the biggest independent producers on TV to nothing, almost overnight. Jeffersons was cancelled between seasons and did not get a "Very Special Final Episode."

Coincidentally, at about that time TV writer Mark Evanier wrote a parable about a baker who could make great doughnuts. He was very good at making doughnuts, and his doughnuts won awards. He was so obsessed with doughnuts people would come to his store, order a cake, and get a box of doughnuts. Eventually, the three guys who bought baked goods -- remember, at the time, there were only three for all intents and purposes -- all decided they were sick of doughnuts.

Still, it had 11 seasons.

Fun fact: although Archie Bunker routinely went through nearly every racial and ethnic slur in existence, he only said "nigger" once. It was in a bottle episode with Meathead.

This is currently unconfirmed, but according to Kevin Dillon's Instagram account, James McCaffrey, best known as the voice actor for Max Payne and many other cult roles, has passed away from unknown causes.

Hoping I'll be able to delete this as a hoax, because holy shit dude.

So far the only source is via the Instagram account. Remedy (game dev for Max Payne that continues to work closely with McCaffrey) has issued a statement that they haven't had confirmation either and to not shit the bed just yet.

ETA: A young soccer player from Northern Ireland named Frank James McCaffrey has passed away today from unknown causes. Currently it seems that people jumped the gun and mistakenly confused him with the actor James McCaffrey.

ETA: Late, but it's confirmed that he has passed away following a private battle with cancer. RIP
