Bill Hayes also sang the most popular version of "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" which hit #1 on the Billboard Top 100 for five weeks, however it wasn't the version heard on the jukebox in the Lou's Diner scene in Back to the Future (which was the Fess Parker version).Bill Hayes, who was one of the stars of Days of Our Lives, passed away at the age of 98.
She was legit too good for this sinful earth. Watched her a lot of times to cheer myself up.Lynn Yamada Davis, aka Cooking with Lynja, passed away from esophageal cancer at 67. She did collabs with a LOT of instagram/tiktok chefs and entertainers so it's sad to see that fun chick go.
The last surviving cast member of "The Honeymooners" and one of the last from the "Golden Era" of Hollywood overall. It always amazes me of how far, yet how short our history really is. For example, Betty White (RIP) was "Miss Television" known for her sitcom career starting with the beginning of TV in the early 1950s, and continued on until the 2010s, and she lived until just shy of her 100th birthday. Per IMDB, there are roughly 200 or so "Golden age" Hollywood actors left. A few big names stick out. Clint Eastwood, William Shatner, Robert Redford. One that surprised me that is still alive is June Lockhart, I remember watching her in old black and white Lassie shows from the 50s in reruns when I was a little kid. She's 98. Dick Van Dyke is in his late 90s and still very active considering his age. Some of these people started acting in the 1930s, and they presumably worked with older actors who were born around the Civil War era. Hell, there was an old man on a 1950s show who was interviewed who was a little kid who was there and saw when Lincoln got shot. Anyway, sorry for sperging. This "living history" just really makes me think sometimes.
Actress Joyce Randolph, who played Trixie Norton in the TV show The Honeymooners died at the age of 99.
Damn. He was a real passionate and charismatic philosophy teacher and he was one of the few that actually delved into ancient and medival philosophy without insulting it or balderizing it. RIP to a real one.Doctor Michael Sugrue has died today. His lectures on Western philosophy and literature were one of the best out there. He will be missed.
Im really truly sorry, fren.My uncle died today after battling lung cancer for 7 years.
If I'm reading the article right, the [thingy] that owns the SI "brand" is mad they didn't get paid by the other [thingy] that pays for the privilege of publishing it, so they yanked the license. But then [thing 1] said "oh yeah SI is still gonna be published, don't worry" and [thing 2] even more bizarrely said "oh yeah we're totally still gonna be publishing it, don't worry."https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/media/2024/01/19/sports-illustrated-layoffs-staff/72283560007/
Not really a death of a person, but Sports Ilustrated magazine is going out of business.
