On a less gruesome note, much like his fellow octegenarian monarch Benedict XVI, Bhumibol was an accomplished amateur musician. I first heard a song of his by Korean guitar prodigy Jung Sung-Ha, and far more of his work is easily available if you'd like to listen.

Speaking of music: this happened a few months ago, but we also lost Lonnie Mack this past April.

He was the man they named the whammy bar after, via the title track of his '63 solo album. He was also an accomplished singer, probably the only guitar wizard whose vocal talents matched their axemanship.

It's a shame he didn't get more attention in life.
