Frederick Forsyth, author who wrote the book The Day Of Jackal died at the age of 86.
Canadian Baby Boomers and Gen X'ers might be familiar with Frederick Forsyth's unconventional Christmas ghost story, The Shepherd, due to a reading of it by radio announcer Alan Maitland, in his Advent season "Fireside Al" persona, which has aired every Christmas Eve (or the Friday just before Christmas Eve if December 24th is on a weekend) on CBC Radio's As It Happens since 1979.

While we're here on the topic, it's the anniversary of my great grandfather passing. He was a soldier in the Soviet Union and helped take the Reichstag.
