Frederick Forsyth, author who wrote the book The Day Of Jackal died at the age of 86.
Sly Stone, of the funk group Sly And The Family Stone died at the age of 82.

Aww, man. I love funk so this hits me in the feels. The only thing that could be worse would be losing Bootsie Collins, but luckily he's only 74.

Canadian Baby Boomers and Gen X'ers might be familiar with Frederick Forsyth's unconventional Christmas ghost story, The Shepherd, due to a reading of it by radio announcer Alan Maitland, in his Advent season "Fireside Al" persona, which has aired every Christmas Eve (or the Friday just before Christmas Eve if December 24th is on a weekend) on CBC Radio's As It Happens since 1979.

Apple engineer and programmer Bill Atkinson died at 74 from pancreatic cancer. Basically created the image tools and image processing algorithms used by the Macintosh and subsequent Apple products, and defined that classic Apple interface.
