Forgive me for being a wee bit late for my tribute to the late, more superlative than great Tom Lehrer. A true polymath in our own day. His piano and songwriting skills in that satire "song and patter" style were heads and shoulders above anyone of that era.

New math’ is also funny in retrospect given ‘common core’s failure and the AMTE having to very much tone down the fucking insanity on their website.

I first heard of him and his catchy tunes from "The Electric Company" education teevee show we'd watch at school (a few of those having been referenced above). "Silent E" is one of those that evokes strong memories. (And I and my mother of blessed memory HATED "new math" because I didn't get it, and she didn't know it to be able to help me. Base 11 and base 12 -- da fuq?)

I had three of his albums, which I truly loved. And, as someone mentioned, the liner notes, especially to "An Evening with Tom Lehrer," were hysterical.

Since others already posted their favourite Tom Lehrer songs, none of which I can disagree with, I thought I'd throw in one I particularly liked. And it's the last line of the final stanza that just cracked me up, even after many years past the relevant time period.
