TikTok. Literally. Youtube Shorts are uniformly unwatchable these days (not like they ever were all that great to begin with).

YTBlock is a godsend (highly recommended extension for Chrome-flavored browsers). Among its other useful features is the ability to block all shorts by default. They don't even appear in search results. It's glorious.

Technically they still get sent to the browser on the search result page, but the extension yoinks them from the page as they're rendered and fetches additional pages of search results to fill in the gaps. If you blocklist every "local MSM news affiliate" channel you find, then search for a current event, it's hilarious watching Youtube struggle to serve up videos that don't get auto-blocked and are actually relevant.
 
Venus, viral chimera cat, passed away at 17.

It is with a completely shattered heart that I share that our beloved Venus crossed the Rainbow Bridge on August 16, 2026.
She was loved around the world as one of the original internet celebrity cats and became a part of so many of your lives so this post is for you also!
Venus became very weak very quickly over the past couple days. At the emergency hospital yesterday, we learned her little body was struggling with advanced chronic kidney disease, severe dehydration, anemia and possible heart disease. Her prognosis was grave, and even the treatment her kidneys desperately needed carried serious risks for her heart. I could not ask her to keep fighting when there was no path back to the quality of life she deserved.
Venus also lost Roo, her best friend of 12 years, just nine days ago. I can’t help believing losing Roo may have been more than her tired little heart could bear.
This is the last photo of Venus alive. The kind doctor let us take her outside to say goodbye. I sat beneath a tree with Venus in my lap on her favorite blanket. She could feel the warmth & fresh air. Surrounded by her family, she passed peacefully in my arms.
As my youngest son took this photo, an orange-and-black honey bee landed on his finger. It stayed while Venus fell asleep in my arms. When the doctor told us she was at peace, the bee flew away.
Maybe some will call it coincidence. I never will.
Maybe it was Roo, coming back for his best friend so she wouldn’t make that journey alone.
Her final memory wasn’t a hospital room. It was warmth. Grass beneath a tree. Her favorite blanket. My arms around her. Her family. Love.
I’ll share a proper tribute to her extraordinary life when I’m able.
Run to Roo, my beautiful girl. I know he was waiting with Mojo, Jack, Halo, Ginger, Yoshi and the many foster kitties we’ve loved and lost.
You spent 17 years leaving your little paw prints all over my life and the world. Now you’ve left one permanently on my heart.

Oh man, this one stings. She was great (in everything except those two MST3k films, where she was woefully miscast and poorly utilized; it's part of what made those episodes so fun, openly wondering WTF they were thinking giving her such shit roles).

May she effortlessly elude Mickey in the afterlife.
