Glitches aside the new characters aren't great, chef especially just feels awkward to use, I have no clue why they changed how his primary functions requiring 2 clicks for every one attack. The False son has an awkward chargable special which is default bound to R, awkward key to hold down while moving so I moved mine to my mouse. It also is completely useless uncharged and we already have a template for how this should work with railgunner's special.

There's so many bugs it's not even funny and there's no way it was tested in any meaningful way with how many have 100% replication rate. The lantern for example, I guess nobody actually picked up these items because they would know the notification never goes away. Void Echo doubles damage rather than halving it about 5% of the time.

Also the framerate is tied to so many things, the rate that timed effects apply like collapse, medkit, bustling fungus or void echo is all tied to framerate. Enemy spawn rate and attack rate, movenent acceleration and even the speed that some projectiles travel. There's too many other things to list.

The new bossfight is just bizarre, there's a gimmick the map and in the boss involving picking up totems to dispel debuffs but there's nothing to let you know how it works and the mechanic works differently at the start of the level than it does during the boss, the audio/music cues and camera work during the cutscene are all very ameteur it just feels like you're playing a mod. Also sometimes enemies won't spawn in the lead up to the boss.

The one praise I do have is the new levels, all 5 stages and their variants (including the pre-dlc stage 1 they added) look really good and play well, I love the new stage 5's verticaliy. Even Prime Meridian the new boss stage looks great before during and after, it captures that same bizarre feeling as void fields or planetarium.

Also the new elites I'm not sure I understand how they work? I couldn't tell you what gilded do and the twisted ones I think make it so you can only damage them while in their bubble or else the damage will be sent back to you and this extends to allies in their bubble? Because of how much of your damage is incidental because of item effects the retaliation damage seems to be misguided, should probably just nullify damage instead.

Speaking of items the new ones are very strange, most seem outright useless, the antlers are a chance on hit to return 10% of an enemies damage back to them, its some ungodly fusion of armor plate and barb wire that's not even consistent and does like no damage. Meanwhile Sonorous whispers has to be the most broken item in the game giving you and infinite rapid supply of items. Knockback fin is just stun nade but now enemies will randomly be knocked out of multi hit aoe's like fire band or hooks of heresy. I could go on but the point is the new item don't seem a good fit for most situations they're all way too conditional or outright useless, some are just broken, what use case does the new lunar item have? Lunar items in general are pretty bad aside from glass and tonic+gesture but I can still say that the rest all have use cases even if niche. But the new one is just absolutely worthless, it also functions more like an artifact than an item since it applies a global effect. Again I could go on but there's too much to list.

Lastly this is something I didn't pick up on my own but once I saw it mentioned I can't unsee it the new items are all weird artifacts rather than ordinary items. Their names also don't tell you what they are but rather what they do. Even items like "Chronic Expansion" which is some kind of medical equipment has a name that doesn't clue me in to what it's day to day usage is. For that you need to go to the item log to find out it's like an insulin pump but for some kind of steroid or adrenaline. I've seen a lot of people suspect these items were made with AI consulting and that theory seems very likely to me. (Also the game says this item raises damage by 10% but its actually 6%)

@Scarthew I feel like this guys through are the perfect Devs to actually work at Valve's "We have unlimited money, do what ever you want" foundation. From starting with a simple and realistic kick starter goal for game made by 2 college kids, making the decisions and actually pulling off the move from 2d to 3d, they have what it takes to get other Valve nerds interested in their vision of a game.

Maybe we'll see something in 5 years or so.

If you are are Steam, yeah. There are even guides on the Risk of Rain 2 Steam Page

Open your web browser and type into your address bar: steam://nav/console
It'll prompt you to open the link in steam. Do that and you'll get a blank page on your steam application. This is a 'developer console.'

Using this console, you will copy and paste this into the bottom 'command line' and press enter;
download_depot 632360 632361 9058106608706845920

Then it will silently download the depot that you'll need after a few minutes or hours, depending on your download speed. Do not close the steam window or else it will stop the download.

Go to your Risk of Rain 2 properties on your steam library and select Updates>Automatic Updates
In the dropdown selection, set it to 'Only update this game when I launch it.'

Once your files are done downloading, it'll tell you the download location, typically it'll be in;
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_632360\depot_632361

Copy the contents inside depot_632361 and replace the files that are inside your risk of rain 2 folder, typically in; C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2

The files are going to look identical and you'll be prompted to replace over 1,258 files. Replace the files and launch the game. If this worked, you will not see a big banner at the top right saying
"BUY SEEKERS OF THE STORM"

i haven't played ror2 in a really long time so i don't have a frame of reference for how bad things got recently, but it seems like ror2 youtubers (?????????????) are 180'ing bizarrely quickly on the doomerism unless gearbox actually somehow just patched out everything that the tubers were just saying cataclysm-icly ruined what sounds like every aspect of the game in like not even a week

They did patch out the two largest problems, everything being tied to framerate which had deep and consistent issues and a specific item turning enemies invincible if they had it. This is a massive improvement but it didn't fix any of the real problems with the DLC. The new elites still are awful, half the items are worse than just having that color scrap, the new enemies are still janky and uninteresting and the new characters still reek of being half finished mod characters.

I get some of the Risky Youtubers not wanting to piss off Gearbox too much since their game is their bread and butter but the ones claiming the DLC is great now that the game is in a playable state are retarded shills.

Probably because the patch came out and fixed most bugs yesterday. Honestly they were overreacting anyway. For many the biggest issue is unfixed which is that the game is still impossible to mod because they practically rewrote the games code. But for me who doesnt mod the game the majority of the issues were a minor inconvenience.

God to be the piece of shit developers working on this game knowing that 3 college kids with a dream and a kickstarter made a massively successful franchise, was able to move it from 2d to 3d, and now get to work for Valve while you are playing fuck fuck games with their code base (and fucking it up along the way).
