I just re-read that page on the CWCki. Apparently Chris was only 18 months old at the time, so I'm sure he absolutely was being irritating or disruptive. Most toddlers that age are. You can't even explain to them that they're being rude at that age. All you can do if you're trying to talk on the phone is distract them with something. But given Chris's age at the time of the story, i doubt any of the details he gives. I absolutely call bullshit on the "locked" in a room part.
At age one-and-a-half, all you need to do to "lock" someone in a room is close the door. They can't reach the doorknob, and if they're extraordinary youths like Chris they can't figure out how to stand on something to reach higher.

Baby's First Stress Sigh

I think the more important thing to remember here is that children of 18 months barely have enough cognitive processes to recognize themselves in a mirror (something Chris can't even do NOW), let alone form a concrete memory of a single event. So to me this smacks entirely of Borb inventing a convenient excuse to forgive themselves of any blame for the autism, and Chris has accepted this as gospel.

18 months? I imagined the incident happening when he was like 3 or 4, given how much 'detail' he 'remembers' (being punished for interrupting a phone call) so with that new bit of information, then yeah, it's likely that Barb made it up.

Barb: "Chris sweetie, that mean old babysitter just walked up to your crib while you were sleeping and just started punching you until you caught the 'tism"

Chris: "Seems legit"

Obviously, scapegoat. Scapegoating is practically second nature to the Chandlers.

Yet another glaring example that, although Chris HAS da 'Tisms he knows absolutely fuck all about Autism. Specifically he thinks getting a time out in a playroom was what caused his Autism.

Why not? My polio was caused by a parking ticket.

On the other hand, would Bob 'n' Barb be able to tell a good babysitter from a skeezy one? Or even care?
