Dammit, I'm calling it RIGHT FUCKING NOW. Bob's nephew will be diagnosed as at least as autistic as his niece, if not more so. Most of the 2 year olds I've known over the years have plenty of words - most of them the problem is they won't shut up. The "excitement noises" could be "completely normal" (like maybe babbling, but shit son, babbling is more common with children under 18 months old. Maybe squealing/shrieking? That's a little more "normal" for that age), but taken together with "doesn't have a lot of words" (WHUT) makes me suspicious. Yeah I know, fucking, 2 years old, but c'mon. Either the kid hasn't got a lot of words because borderline nonverbal (maybe?) autist, developmentally exceptional, or someone hasn't been doing their fucking job as parents. A remote possibility is the kid is shy/quiet, but "excitement noises" pretty much takes that almost all the way off the table. Shy quiet children don't make a lot of noise in general except in extreme circumstances. Also, if this kid's not overusing "no", there's definitely something wrong.
Also I feel so bad for the niece. She's already sperging about Mario and asking if he's alive because she saw someone in a Mario costume? Good god Bob what have you put into her head? More importantly, how would she react seeing that old pic of her uncle bob in Mario Cosplay?

I am not a doctor, but I understand it's possible to (tentatively) diagnose autism by watching video of the child's first birthday party.
A normal child understands the fuss is about him. He's engaged, laughing and having fun with everything. If the kid's sort of staring off and playing with his napkin, well... bad news.

After reading about Bob's nephew, I'm wondering if autism isn't really what's going on here. I'm wondering if what's really going on here is that the half-neglectful Chipman parents are drowning their kids in plastic crap, vidya, and streaming garbage ... and never reading to them. That affects a child's development tremendously.
