It's kind of dumb how people keep viewing weimar as the last days of Soddom or some sort of stillborn utopia when it's just a republic which failed to set roots because the economy tanked and the Prussians wanted a king.
I genuinly doubt Bob actually knows a great about the era except it's cinema was pretty good and as the warmup act for the reich.
Weimar was a golden age when it came to culture and the arts. This was due in part because of the chaotic social and political environment (helped by an influx of foreign money and pop culture.) . Many young people of the time said "Fuck it" and decided to party, as they didn't know what the future would bring them. It was a time for experimentation and the questioning of old norms. There were excesses, of course, leading many to suffer, but also an incredible blooming of creativity that was to effect the political and cultural landscape for many years to come.
In other words, it was a highly complex period of history that would take an entire college course to even crack the surface of, but to Bob, it was nothing more than the 1920's version of the Castro District, which died at the hands of Hitler the First, King of the White Devils.
