ohohohoh that Sanders-esque rant about vidjagames... Damn, I should have had a listen around. Too bad no one in the audience challenged this dumbass on his ridiculous ideas, and there was even this lady that kept noding her head.
Jesus where to begin:
1- Videogames are somewhat cheaper now. Adjusted for inflation, NES and it's cartriges cost about the same of what games cost now, and that isn't counting the discounts and digital priced games in the streams and such services. Videogames were always a expensive entretainment, and one of the big reasons they managed to thrive in the 8-Bit era was the rise of the rental services for games, otherwise we all would be stuck with the same 3 games that our parents could afford.
Heck, during my childhood all I had was a Atari that was my older sister's and a Master System (which was rad, but cheaper), there was no way we could get a nes and I had a pretty confortable middle-class life, my parents did ok. I was only able to get a SNES well into my early teenage year and a PS1 when I was 17 at the tail end of the console (again, it was rad, because I got FFVII, FFiX, both Lunars and all SF alphas.)
And the part about pricing people out of gaming... dude you only pay for a full priced game these days if you REALLY need to get a game day one, a triple AAA game day one. And only people who can spare the cash do that.
If you wait six months, most of these games drop by half of the price. it's been years since I've payed for a full price game (with the exception of SFV, because I'm dumb). These days you could get Red Dead Redemption 2 for 15 bucks, and if you can't spare 15bucks, then videogames should be the least of your priorities.
2- Public space for games. Hey Robert, have you ever head of "THE FUCKING INTERNET". We already have a public space for "gaming" you dumbass, and guess what, the most popular games, Fortnite and LoL are FREE!!! you dumbfuck, and you can ran these games in a calculator these days.
But nah, we all know what sort of public space this simpleton is talking about, a physical, public place where people gather to do "gaming". But if it is supposed to be free, then who the fuck is going to pay to maintain this shit? Not to mention, who under 35 is going to show for this shit? There is a reason why arcades died or became novelty attractions.
3- The very notion that "catharsis" should not be exclusive to the rich... but it isn't. Life in lower classes is harder for sure, but to think the only way to obtain leisure is throught expensive means that the "rich" can afford is ridiculous, the fuck you are talking about.
And what is the vision Robert has of the public that consumes videogames anyway? Seems like he thinks only the people on suburbs can aford a crappy PS4, when you go to any imporvished family and it isn't unusual for them to have a PC or a second hand console (I have a second hand PS4 BTW). For all class disparities whoes we have now, videogames ain't even top 100, what the fuck you are talking about.
And he wasn't talking, this is clearly his usual verbal diatribe he regurgitates. But good lord, it is some special sort of sad to see this fat, balding man, already heading to his middle age spewing the same talking points of a first year college kid trying to impress the drunk girl on a party (spoiler he doesn't get the girl).
But i guess that is what Americans like now, old people talking as if they were clueless early 20's little shits
