He talks like there's some mysterious faceless group known as "The Japanese" behind it instead of one goofy man as writer/artist you can just google and get interviews of. Toriyama's very open about his "writing at the edge of his pants" style and editors always being on his case. Ignoring it's not his style, the Android stuff isn't going to have any big sociopolitical commentaries on fatherhood or whatever when it had to change direction at least 4 times due to editorial whims. First "no one cares about an old man and a clown", "No one wants these twins", "Your bug man is too ugly, he should transform", etc.

Toriyama's the kind of writer who is as in the dark about where his story's going as the reader.

Dragonball was written every week by the seat of Toriyama's pants, often in two or three days. There is nothing particularly deep about it.

It's literally the biggest case of "right place, right time" that has ever happened.

Yeah no. Team Rockets boss Giovanni wasn't some progressive woke tranny ally and Jessie and James crossdressing wasn't some proto-progressive virtue signaling for gender fluidity and transexuality. It was basic role reversal comedy where the girl is the more violent and dominant who dresses in masculine clothes while her gentler male partner dresses in female clothing because seeing a man in a dress is funny and our heroes falling for James obvious crossdressing is funny. Its funny because Jessie and James dress differently than what you'd expect based on their sexes, not something you clap too because James put on fake boobs once to rig a beauty contest.
