They may remember him as the blubbery asshole geek who kept backbiting them until he made the mistake of bullying a scrawnier friend or family member. Bob definitely provoked them, they humiliated him, and he then concocted the idea that they simply hated him because he was their better.
That's a very excellent angle to look at this. The meaning of "geek/nerd" today has become watered down by the comic book movie explosion Bobert creams himself over on the regular. Sure, nerds and geeks like comics but they're also meant to be smart or at least savants due to their autism. They looked, dressed, and acted a particular way. Bob just knows a little bit about comics, Mario, and films. He's nowhere near as smart as he imagines himself to be. He's no different from all the other consoomers who feverishly hype ever new MCU release. In short, he's a poser. Big surprise.
He has to hype up his own intelligence or knowledge of things, so he'll make proclamations about anything he has a vague grasp on. We do have that one story from his job at that public access channel. Bob always framed it as his boss threatening him with a gun, but I strongly think Bob threatened his boss with violence to the point that he felt he needed a gun just to be safely around Bob.
I could also imagine Bob extracting a 'violent threat' out of simply being talked to by his boss about guns. Especially if the guy had already tripped Bob's low threshold for deserving death in some other way. Not a difficult thing to do.

I don't get the shot at Adult Swim. Most of the people who get shows on there are hipster douchebags like him. Sam Hyde is the obvious exception. These aren't the type of people who hangout on a frozen lake and ice fish for winter recreation.
