”The Game Overthinker” doesn’t know that Mark Wahlberg’s mentor character is from the video games and not a studio note.
Imagine my shock.
The one thing to be noted here isn't that Bob doesn't know about a certain character, which is excusable to a degree, but rather that he doesn't even bother to do basic research before commenting on it. Paragraphs and more paragraphs and he can't bother to do five minutes of googling before commenting on something, if you can call his old man ramblings a critical analysis, I guess. Comes to show how much of an ego this fat fuck has!
Bob isn't unique here for a change. If there's one thing Twitter has opened my eyes to, other than troon shit, it's just how many people absolutely refuse to believe in the possibility of unintended consequences. (While also believing in mass secretive unconscious conspiracy theories but I digress.) Like I can't even fathom how I would explain to Bob the simple logic of something like "no, Congress should not give President Biden the authority to put political enemies in Gitmo because what if Donald Trump wins in 2024?" Bob would just reply to that with "well, put Trump in Gitmo then" or some other statement about how you simply just prevent bad people from using the tools you've provided them. Or to use your example, you just don't let Jack Thompson censor, only Anita. Your concerns were silly and easily solved.
Look at how Bob responds to the few challenges he's gotten over his COVID Endless Lockdown Theory, does he contemplate that the good intentions of "ending COVID forever" may not be better than mass starvation and death? No, he responds "robots" and calls it a day. The lack of these robots and their ability to carry out the tasks he desires doesn't enter the picture because he intends them to do so and it's frankly baffling that people don't already have them there. (Naturally, sinister forces are likely denying the achievement but I digress.)
He's a Thinker and he grapples with these ideas at a higher level than most, that's why everything is so obvious to him. Things like nuance and cost/benefit analysis are for people who don't get the answer right the first time.
It's a landmark of emotionally charged thinking. A common example is when someone commits a horrific crime, like a serial rapist, and the first thing people think of doing is taking them on a one-way ride to the deep end of the woods. While I can easily agree that a pile of horseshit like that deserves such a punishment, there's a reason why these are illegal, as it's easy for these punishments to be abused!
People like Bob or the retards on Twitter often lead comfortable yet unhappy lives as they are too ingrained in media and other distractions instead of being sociable. Bob feels like a King on Twitter, as his voice is heard there even if just mocked to shit by most. His takes are very emotionally charged and pitiful in philosophical content given that their core values are based on treating people according to Bob's likes and dislikes, concepts like good people being capable of doing bad things, and bad people being capable of doing good things are incomprehensible to his mind as he's a zealot through and through. A "MAGA TRASH GHOUL!" can easily be a family man who helps his local community and donates to charity, thus a better person than Bob is, but to Bob he will still be subhuman garbage as long as he holds different beliefs than his own. In a twist of irony, Bob himself demonstrates that someone who calls himself a liberal, progressive thinker can be a histrionic pile of horseshit and a colossal asshole of a bully!
His best display of self-awareness was adopting MovieBob as his moniker. Not because he's a cultured cinephile, but precisely because he thinks with the worse of Hollywoodian logic in mind, "Bad Guy = Bad" and "Good Guy = Good" in full display, nuance doesn't exist and neither do circumstances and context, everything is what it says on the label and there's nothing more to it. Tribalistic Simplistic Asshole Bob would be too long, after all lol!
From what I know about Bob, he would never play a game like Cyberpunk or even Fallout. His tastes are really quite childish. In some people that might be cute, but in him it's unsettling. I think it's the juxtaposition between liking cute, colorful child friendly games, and spewing vile hate speech all day on Twitter. I mean, I play various Marios now and then, but I play other games too. I'm not sure if he even plays the 3D Marios, and I bet he hated the N64 since it focused a lot of dark FPS games.
Precisely. It doesn't matter if he's a middle aged man, a young woman or an old man, if Bob enjoyed cute games like Kirby and were a nice, lighthearted person, it would be cute or just fine. These games are meant for all ages and I know better than to judge someone's choices in entertainment based on a single pick of the litter, relaxation is something personal after all. However, as you said, it's not that his tastes in entertainment that make this dark, it's his personality. He's viciously tribalistic, very toxic and an overall asshole, so him playing Mario to kick back and relax a bit becomes unsettling precisely because it looks like it isn't simply a way for him to relax or something he enjoys, but rather that he's deeply immature and a nasty manbaby with delusions of grandeur!
To reaffirm, liking childish media isn't a bad thing. Fuck, with how jaded things are in the World right now, it's a blessing to take some time off this horseshit!
Being incapable of enjoying anything more mature? Now that is worrying!
