One of my grandfathers served in WWII (I say "served" rather than "fought" because so far as I am aware there was no Battle of Port Newark). He was a drunk and a compulsive gambler and nearly drove his family into the poorhouse because he owed everything to loansharks. I wouldn't use him as the moral arbiter of anything. But even if I could, those are his accomplishments, not mine.
If Bob's gramps really was a WWII vet, you have to wonder just how pleased he'd be by the peculiar creature his loins produced.
