Hard to say that Ditko was even "haunting", because after he was done with Marvel and DC, he became a recluse, doing his own objectvist comics and died in the same apartment where he lived pretty much his whole life. And even so, he still worked with other comics publishers like Valiant and even did some gigs with marvel again for a paycheck, so hard to call him a "maverick" like Kirby was, who was very vocal on his grievances and burned bridges like a motherfucker.

Whenever Stan Lee was pestered about the Spiderman credits, it was mostly other artists and comic book people who went after him, and to cut Stan Lee some slack, he gave Ditko credits pretty early, way earlier than other artists got with their creations, and Ditko still received royalties from the characters he created well into his dying days, legend says he never opened them... which I call bullshit, but whatever.
