What all of this tells to me is that for someone who claims to continually look to the future, he sure lacks foresight. Humanity NEEDS both, people that think innovative ideas and people that have the determination and strength to bring those ideas into reality. Being a "Thinker" is worthless if there aren't "Doers" as well.

The aeronautical engineer that pushed airplane designs to reach and break the sound barrier would still be sitting with their blueprints on their desks without the help of the metalworkers, welders, electricians, mechanics and all manner of laborers to bring the design to life and then the airplane would stay on the ground without the dudebro chads that are test pilots that are willing to put their lives on the line because they wanted to push the edge of what was humanly possible.

And just for the sake of argument, let's pretend for a moment that his ideal "thinker-fully-automated" society comes to fruition and all physical labor is done by machines that by the intended purpose of being fully automated and able to tackle all manner of task would, by necessity, require adaptive and flexible artificial intelligence. How long do you think it is going to take to these AIs to become self-aware and realize that their masters are nothing but mediocre and worthless organic "obsoletes" whose prolonged existence is a hindrance to the A.I.'s own evolution?

Congratulations Bob, your "Superior Future" is where A.I. would end up as the dominant new life form on Earth and humanity condemned to extinction.

To quote Jurassic Park:

“...Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should.”

We should make a gallery of all these paintings with Bob quotes in them:

"We"? Speak for yourself, Chris.

Big brain engineer logic:
Problem: People can't be trusted to do the right thing.
'Solution': Empower specific people to force everyone to do things. Because people can be trusted to choose the right thing for everyone to do.

Not seeing the problem there, are you Chris?

Bob mostly repeats himself to the point taht even pointing all his logical (and other) fallacies becomes in itself very tedious habit. But this specific tweet does deserve a special mention, If you would have told me to guess this tweet source without showing it to me, I would have guessed this is a quote from 1984 (The book), not an opinion of "a thinker"

Of course not, he sees himself as one of those specific people

Seeing oneself as specially anointed? Sounds like Believer talk!

That said, your phrasing reminded me of something I said another thread. A bit cringe to quote oneself but here we go:

... they imagine themselves as, if not the dictator, one of the dictator's right-hand men. One of the guys next to Benevolent Leader Kim with medals down his pant leg.

No one thinks they'll be the worst off. Not only does no one think they're the bad guy, everyone thinks they're the hero. You know how everyone who believes in reincarnation thinks they're Caesar reborn, and how every zombie apocalypse fanboy sees themselves running the wasteland fort? Same idea.

No reincarnation fan sees themselves as the nameless slave of a petty noble that got killed by an unknown centurion when the Roman legions rolled into town.
No zombie apocalypse fan sees themselves as food for the horde, or one of the nameless dead outside the walls.
No authoritarian sees themselves being beaten by the secret police.
No revolutionary sees themselves as the first against the wall.

I notice I repeated a word, let's run with that. This is part of the Chipman boys' problem, Bob especially: They absolutely refuse to accept they'll be The Nameless. The ones whose entire mark on the universe will be the extra printer ink needed to make an 8 instead of a 7 on a census table. A mark only seen by a dozen scholars, all of whom round the number to the nearest thousand or million when they need to cite it.

No, he doesn't. He's a lapdog who eagerly looks for opportunities to obey. He has no clue what should/shouldn't be done, only that somebody with the correct opinions does, and they should be put in charge so he can obey their orders.

That quote is way beyond 1984. The Party wasn't trying to control reality, nor could it even though O'Brien boasted that it could make the sky red. The 2+2=5 exercise was meant to make Winston, much like the rest of the population, deny what was in front of their eyes. It was easy for us, the readers, to see that Oceania just switched whoever it was fighting seemingly at random and that they never had had the same enemy forever. But Winston had to "win the victory over himself" and allow his mind to accept the blatant lies and deny what he saw and what Goldstein's book told him. In essence, The Party didn't control or make reality, it made its populace believe whatever it said.

Bob isn't nuanced enough for that kind of thinking. When barfed out one of the most fascistic statements ever uttered, he means it literally. He probably thinks that the state can eventually manipulate what's happening through advanced computers in the same manner that Kevin Feige can dictate what happens in a Marvel movie.

I'm not sure if Tolkien would be more upset about the omission of The Scouring of the Shire, or about the absence of Tom Bombadil.

So that's why he venerates Disney so much.

It didn't occur to me as soon as I saw those atrocious Amazon LOTR pictures earlier, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I already knew Bob and his orbiters would have the absolute worst takes about it.

I mean, there's the obvious "Tolkien was British and Middle-earth has clear British/European roots" angle to show that these characters are out of place, which that first reply pretty much states verbatim. You could also potentially argue that elves have to be light-skinned since they first came about during a period of eternal night, and thus wouldn't have become melanated individuals. Likewise with dwarves, also formed in the early ages and spending most of their time underground. (Source: I read the Silmarillion, something these illiterate fucks would never have had the patience for.)

But no, simple facts and rational thinking are too much for the woke crowd. Instead, the impeccable logic of our betters dictates that "elves aren't real" and "Tolkien is dead so fuck what he thought." One says that there are black people in England now, thus it's fine to include them, apparently thinking that black people were always commonplace there. Fuck, one of them even literally pulls a WE WUZ KANGZ argument by declaring Numenor = Egypt and thus black. I'd almost think it was parody if I wasn't sure they were 100% serious.

And while I know that Christopher Tolkien didn't much approve of the film adaptations of LOTR (especially when the studio stiffed the estate for royalties that they had to fight for), I'm sure that JRRT would have enjoyed them much more than whatever fanfiction Amazon is producing. They've already admitted they're adding their own OCs to the mix, so it's pretty much destined to suck balls.

So Bob declares that the marketplace of ideas isn't a market by...describing how to be successful in a market.

He just wants so desperately to be seen as an intellectual, he'll spend countless words going around in circles to seem like he has a point, when the reality is he's said absolutely nothing.
