I just finished it so I'll just give a quick and dirty.

The bean mouth thing actually looks better in motion, out of context stills don't really do it justice. Overall the animation is a lot better than I thought it would be since I'm used to both disney and pixar being stiff.
As far as the story goes I actually think it was pretty middle of the road. I think whatever side of the culture war fence you are on will paint your perception dramatically, but as someone who was going into this ready to hate it, I don't think this is some Cuties level of globohomo propaganda. The 4 chan posts reek more of autists who need to touch grass and coomers who need to commit minecraft.
In conclusion I don't think it was especially ground breaking, but I think most normal people will like it, and its a decent take on the whole coming of age thing. A young imposter could relate despite being a manga nerd rather than a bean mouth pixar protagonist.
TY for your perspective fren. I'll use it to weigh against everything else.

I'm pretty hypersensitive about this sexual corruption of kids we're seeing more and more of. Anytime that there's even a hint of that I bristle. Because of that I probably would've seen the same thing and I don't know if I can unsee it at this point.
Not really because the Cuties meltdown became funny due to the fact Bob was defending a universally hated film that featured real kids twerking that literally no one stood up for all because the director was a black woman and assumed that was the real reason people hated it.

Bob extremely missed the point of the hate the film got and it was not some divisive issue that there could be some points in the defense for it's favor, no one liked it.
I always want to point out that Bob has never defended the quality of Cuties. He only attacks people who call it pedo propaganda as mindless chuds because a woman reviewer got bullied for calling Cuties a great coming of age film.

So I'm gonna talk about this for a quick minute. And really its funny how relevant it is to Bob. Because it involves Judy Blume.

Saying it broke new ground is a bit dumb. But, acting like King of the Hill is analogous is also a bit dumb. King of the Hill is a show about a middle aged man trying to come to terms with a rapidly changing world from what he grew up in and set his values in. Written by a man, who's probably pretty similar. I wouldn't say Mike Judge is a conservative man. But, he clearly has a lot of love for Hank Hill, in that instead of punishing him for his world views, he allows him to recalibrate them. Which, is a fair shy more than Bob and his ilk would allow. Which is also a bit disgusting. Because they always act like he's one of the good ones. And it shows a lot of maturity on Judge's behalf that he can wrestle with personal philosophies the way he does.

The important thing, however is that it is a joke in how a middle aged man has to deal with a girl getting her first period. Not only that, but it's not even his kid. It's the fucking neighbor girl. And while some girls in this day and age can relate to that. I am certainly of the mind that you probably should have a woman telling a story about a girl doing that. And it probably should be mainstream.

Not just for the girls in the audience to feel included. Because frankly, that's fucking stupid. That's not what art is. Art is to show other people another way of looking at things. And unless if you're a redditor you've probably met and talked to a woman. And probably interact with them all the time. (Unless if you're also a woman, then take this is as more I'm talking to everyone.)

Like one of my favorite books I've ever read is Are You There God, It's Me Margaret. Not because it's a great piece of literature. But because it let 13 year old me, realize that 13 year old girls, or whatever fucking age, are pretty much the fucking same. And that's all there is to it. What I think Bob and the twitter brigade has completely lost sight of. And hell what I think some of us have lost. And only because the creators have lost sight of it as well. As representation isn't to be the one on the stage. To be in the limelight. To be the hero of the story. Its to tell your story. Going to a story that features *you* as the main character is asinine and is what has caused the decline of western society. Because you know your story. But I read things like Are You There God... so I can learn a little about how the other half lives. Or The Watsons go to Birmingham. Actually, it's why I study history.

TL;DR: We need to stop getting upset about movies made by people for people. But call out shit heads talking about representation. Because those people are why we get mad.

P.S. In case if Bob ever reads this. Judy Blume doesn't get you laid Bob. Being sympathetic and understanding of someone else gets you the ass. That's how I know that story is complete bullshit.
Feel obliged go defend myself because I fear people will think I'm autistic on Kiwifarms, the horror! Good post btw.

I only meant that Turning Red isn't a big deal because we've had pop culture talk about women's periods for a long time. I feel only in the early 90s would this have gotten some negative wrap with a few Boomer Parents saying it's inappropriate for a kid's movie.

Consoomers like Bobby have to praise their corporate parent Disney for breaking every single imaginary glass ceiling. "A kids film having menstruation? Whoa! Two women kiss at the end of a Star Wars? This changes everything!"

That's all I meant by saying King of the Hill was there first. That geez I hardly think anyone in my age demo gives a damn that a Pixar movie references sanitary pads. I watched a cartoon where a man talked about having a narrow urethra.

I guess when I watched it seemed pretty disney sanitized. Like if you knew what was going on you got it, if you didn't you just thought it was goofy and awkward. I think people are getting a little too blue curtains about the whole red panda thing. It really just comes off as a generic puberty thing.
Ok, I'm legit trying to get a different perspective on this, don't think I'm ragging on you or anything, this is honest questioning as I don't have you meatbags' experience with hormones and stuff.

Because I'm curious if it's a "generic puberty thing" how does that translate into the bathroom scene and "showing it off" motif? Like what part of puberty does "can I touch it?" fall under?

EDIT: Let me see if I can clarify. Jordan Peterson will talk about something like Pinocchio and talk about how the Puppetmaster represents this cultural theme or life lesson and how hedonism will turn you into a jackass, etc. Whether you think it's legit or over-analyzing it, fine, but it's at least a logic I can follow.

If this film is about a generic puberty thing, then what are these scenes and moments saying about puberty? What's being represented or expressed there?

Oh yeah Bob never even bothered watching the film. All he spent on about Cuties is "REEE RACIST TROLLS HATE A BLACK WOMA'S MOVIE!"

No problem man I get where you are coming from. I tried to go into this thinking in the way a "normal" person would see it. I don't think I could defend each scene in and of itself right now, but I don't think movie is aiming for a weird sexualizing of children narrative. I think the movie is trying to create a palatable metaphor for puberty while still being interesting enough as a story to keep people interested. I looked at the bathroom scene and the showing it off motif as a way to keep the plot moving around what is an uncomfortable subject.

I think that coming of age stories can and should be inherently a bit messy, one of my favorite is FLCL which is about as retarded and hamfisted as it gets. That being said I guess I just don't see this movie as a whole being a hill to die on either way..

I realized after this post I sorta talked past your question. So for that specific scene in the bathroom my brain just wrote it off as a convenient plot point rather than commentary on whether or not can I whore myself out. It's entirely possible I'm being naïve, but that is my perspective.

The entire history of imperialism was justified this way, Bob. Familiar with white man's burden? (I know you're familiar with the phrase, I mean what it refers to and its history.) The civilizing mission? Even old timey people weren't morally fine with "let's go take these people's resources and fuck with them" so they did the equivalent of the rainbow flags on drone strikes for climate justice you're getting a chubby over here though in your case I think you're fine with "kill 98% of them and take their resources" and you're just trying to sell that to others.

I fucking hate all the chicken hawks like Bob, who seem hellbent on getting the US involved in this retarded conflict, secure in the knowledge that they won't have to be any part of it.

This conflict isn't worth the waste of life that we've already seen, and if the US gets involved and escalates the shit out of it, that will be a lot of blood for not a whole hell of a lot.

Also, I still cannot understand how Blobby can have such a hate boner for Putin but seems to keep giving China a pass.

Finally, I like America. Quite a bit. I have a dual citizenship, and I still live in America because it kicks ass. I haven't been to my home country for more than a week in nearly two decades. An American empire, no matter how benevolent sounds hellish. Sure, some countries would probably benefit completely, but doing the whole take over the world for the good of the people is a fucking horrible plan logistically, and a moral shitshow. Thank God Bob is completely removed from the levers of power.

That's because you're not a Thinker, you're a Believer. Under Bob's plan, the empire will simply not do bad things and no one bad will be allowed to use the power. Simple. Your concerns, which Bob has addressed completely, will hold us backwards, not move us forward. Progress, not stagnation. Science, not superstition. You, like 98% of those who will live under the Superior American Empire sponsored by Disney, are not a person. Unless you choose to be a good person, a Thinker, your continued existence is merely the result of Bob's unsurpassed benevolence.

Regarding tx_capricorn: The same number of people who say "I support Ukraine" who also say "but I don't actually support Ukraine" is exactly equal to the number of people whose Twitter accounts also say #IStandWithUkraine while also saying #IStandWithBiden. Sorry, but you have to choose between standing with Ukraine or standing with Fuckwit in Chief Joe Biden; it's literally impossible to do both at the same time (because FiC Biden said that he wouldn't know how to handle a "minor" Russian incusrion into Ukraine).

Uh, Bob... those masks are what you have bitching about for two years.

Uh... no.

And I should be angry at these Senators... why? With nearly $30,000,000,000,000 in national debts, the U.S. government is writing checks it can't possibly cash, and I'm getting really sick and tired of America being the world's most convenient ATM.

Counterpoint: There are no Democrats in the Star Trek universe, either.

He thinks China's immoral shit will lead to his robot body piloting a space ship. Russia, on the other hand, isn't doing that shit.
Bob’s continued existence is because his brother and sister-in-law are just as stupid as he is.
And because his mother lets him stay with her.

Back when he first got fired, he talked about needing to live out of his car if it wasn't for Patreon. Maybe his family should follow through on that, force Robert to realize just how lucky he is.

It's not blink and you miss it but the wording is deliverate (sms messages that say, "Panda pics"). And of course it's not cuties because that was cp.

Finally, the message: "It's my panda and I will do what I want with it". Do you remember how the movie ends? The girl keeps the transformation powers while the rest of the matriarchs seal theirs. Then they turn the panda into a tourist attraction: an onlypands if you will.

We can't have it both ways, either the panda is an allegory for puberty or not. If, the panda is just a panda, whatevet. If not then assume that every story beat is deliberate.

Edit: caught up on your other replies. You make a valid point but the whole growing up/menstruation/coming of age feels disjointed to me.

Imma call immediate bullshit on Bobby's brainless, ignorant assertion that coof masks can help with seasonal allergies caused by MOTHERFUCKING POLLEN.

NO, BOB. NO. I bet Bob's never suffered a pollen allergy in his life. Coof masks only cover the nose and mouth. You know where else you can get fucking pollen? A place that NO mask covers?

YOUR FUCKING EYES. You know, for ITCHY WATERY EYES symptom of fucking pollen allergy. It gets in there, then it doesn't fucking matter one bit that the nose and mouth are covered (and shitty masks don't even keep the pollen out properly, either).
so no, BOB, Red Staters wearing coof masks - not even N-95 or KN-95 - who suffer from allergies, are NOT going to find much relief wearing stupid coof masks.

I guess part of my issue is even if you don't want to see it as a metaphor for vagina (which is hard when the makers have said it is for menstruation), it still really fits for breasts. Which still isn't right.

Then again maybe I've been spoiled on these metaphors by the South Park episode where Butters becomes a pimp.
