I don't comment much on his Sonic hatred because I find it totally baffling that a man in his forties would care this much about a video game mascot from a dead console who debuted when George HW Bush was still President. In fact there are times I don't really believe it, because it's hard to grasp that he's really that stunted; that he's that immature.
And yet. Proof, every week, every frustrated tweet, every snide comment. Once again I wonder just what mental issues this bloated toad suffers from.

The hilarious thing is I have a busted webcam here - the fun of IT, someone "loses" theirs they get the crap one until their boss signs off on a PO - that's decided all output will be monochrome and slightly lined. If it wasn't in my desk with a Post-It reading BUSTED right now I'd assume Bob pillaged my jank-but-workable drawer.

Gamergate was in his mind his rise and him being on the "right" side of "history" Yeah no one will eventually remember gamergate once all the main players fade into complete obscurity which is almost there. But Blobby thinks it'll be there with the civil rights movement someday and he'll be remembered as a good one. His zenith moment in life was his BvS review it's why he's done 5 hours worth of videos since the original. But since then it's been all down hill starting with Queen Hillary losing to Bad Orange Man in 2016.

Nono, you see, friendo, it's not experimentation! It's gender-affirming health care that helps the kids to be the "correct" gender that they want to be, so they don't go through the "wrong puberty" and end up in the 41%! - Moviebob, probably, because apparently not doing the addadicktome or the choppadickoffame causes genocide or something, and only Nazis wouldn't want some poor dysphoric child to NOT be their 'true self'.
Because for the longest time, "dark and edgy" was associated with being "mature", exciting/interesting and for appealing to older audiences as well. Bland (non-dark, nonviolent or minimally violent) kiddy stuff was assumed to be boring and not interesting at all. So they think that to be interesting, and to gain wide appeal (and thus views on Nielsen or box office reciepts), it has to go darker and edgier to appeal to more people. This was the rationale, for example, for killing off a TON of characters in the first 10 minutes of Transformers: The Movie (plus Spike saying "OH SHIT, what are we going to do now?") so it would get a PG rating instead of the dreaded G rating, which was assumed to be a box office kiss of death for that kind of show.
It kinda blew up in their face when they killed off Optimus Prime, though.

The irony it is that they love the MCU, which increasingly relies on quips and juvenile humor, and complained about the DCEU being too dark and edgy. Sega tried that route with 2005's Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 to a lesser degree, and the fans hated it. Sonic was always about being colorful and whimsical, look at how vibrant the old Genesis/Mega Drive were--Green Hill Zone being a complete masterpiece. It's actually quite technically outstanding when you consider that the Genesis had a more limited palette, but the Sonic series was able to keep up with the superior SNES in both graphics and sound. We all know Bob hates it for completely tribal reasons, but I can't speak for the other haters.
I went to Sonic 2 knowing full well that it was a kid's movie, but it is psychologically healthy to get in touch with your inner child (within reason, of course). For those precious two hours, I almost felt like I was twelve again. The problem with Bob--as @Adamska says--is that he uses his childhood nostalgia for Mario as a psychological crutch.

Funny enough the credits teaser or whatever for the third Sonic film (and I'll spoil this even though if you're upset about it you should just consider faking a suicide in Japan and blame the Kiwi Farms for it) indicates that Shadow is planned for that one. Yet I don't imagine Bob will find it in his heart to get over the psychic scars from his Vietnam and accept it like he would in any other case of OMG I RECOGNIZE THIS THING FROM THAT OTHER THING I SKIMMED.

These idiots either want things to be dark and edgy or be funny self-aware meta humor.
Basically both boil down to them wanting the stuff from their childhood to grow up with them.
In theory it could work for like some stuff, but at the same time not everything could work with that model, and it feels more like adults who can not let go of their childhoods or accept the fact what they like is for younger people. These people are fine enjoying whatever, but shouldn't force shit to be one of the above mentioned models just to make them feel mature, it's pretty pathetic and robs kids of what joy they can get from it since kids do still watch that stuff and shouldn't have manchildren to force their version of it onto the kids.

Well, with Sonic '06 most flack it got for being a very rushed mess and how the whole time-traveling thing was a mess. I do recall people praising Eggmans design, some of the levels, and the addition of Silver. With Shadow, I do remember one version got really flaked for the controls being bad (think it was the Gamecube one), and the level designs being bad, but it got praise for the concept of multiple endings.

I would have some respect for Bob if he simply admitted that he's got no criteria other than his own emotions and the political flavor of the month. At least he would be an honest unhinged manbaby. I watched the first movie myself not expecting much, and I had a fun experience. No matter how much he wants to play the angle of being a cultured, cosmopolitan critic, he isn't fooling anyone with these manbaby opinions and the incapability of appreaciating anything that isn't Marvel!
Precisely! Repeating myself a bit, there isn't a problem in enjoying superhero movies, in indulging in childhood nostalgia (fuck, I have an emulator running on my other tab as I type this!) and having a fun time. Good way to blow off some steam, these works are usually lighter and enjoyable for all ages, pretty good if you want to get the family together to sit and watch a movie. The problem is Bob can't evolve past his immaturity. Guy is fucking 40 and acts like he is on his early teens, like a 14 year old boy who needs to be the coolest guy in the room (according to his own, twisted perspective of the concept) at all times, the "smart" boy in class that constantly tries to show how "intelligent" he is. It looks like I might be exaggerating, but Bob reminds me of some people I met in my teens, more precisely, of the worst of the crop of the socially inept guys, the ones that felt cheated by the World of their own progress, like they were owned it for some insane reason!
The catch? Most of these guys eventually evolved beyond this behaviour. Bob, just like Chris Chan, is fucking 40 and hasn't learned a thing after years and years of being publicly humiliated. Arguably, he is worse off than Chris: At least Chris had a girl who willingly wanted to sleep with him, lol!
For most of these guys, just like others have stated on the thread, it was the apex of their relevance. Absolute nobodies went from their own corners at the Internet to making headlines and even the fucking U.N. in a few cases, but for most of them it ended there. So, by mentioning it whenever, they are trying to stay on top of whatever remains of that long since spoiled gravy train!
One other thing I myself noticed is that many of the figures involved are absolute fucking assholes with little to no charisma. These guys got some deals out of that and were in a rare position where they were actually liked by some and perceived as being competent in spite of being the opposite, it quickly got over their heads considering they started going wild with their vanity like running for the U.S. Congress, promoting themselves as "Activists", launching whole books, documentaries about themselves, building monuments to their briefly validated unwarranted self-importance!
I'm late to reply, and I should've said my piece yesterday right when I got out of my screening for Sonic 2. That said, what the fuck was even he expecting? If he wants dark and gritty Sonic, he needs to go back to fucking himself with Sonic 06, SatAM or some Archie shit. I'm not saying that Sonic has to be all comedic but I'm also not expecting any dark and gritty Sonic media any time soon.
And guess what, this is also the same with MCU, and even both Spiderman and X-Men movies, where they experiment genres in the respective exact same universes, but consoomers like Slob Chipman adore anything with the Marvel brand (or they also like boring bullshit like Terminator Dark Fate and 2018 Tomb Raider; which both have the same exact glaring pacing issues and terrible fanfiction-like writing as the likes of Fantf4stick, but according to consoomers, they're good because "muh dark, gritty and edgy," am I right?). Slob's autistic mental breakdown over something like Sonic 2 is the equivalent to getting pissed off at a bear for shitting in the woods.
