The entire "darker-and-edgier" Sonic debate has me reminded of all the attempts of a grittier story in the games and two of which were crowned to be complete shit. Rise of Lyric and Forces. It seems people haven't learned that a gritty Sonic is a death sentence to any title.
Also, while people may see a resurgence of "game-to-movie" adaptations, the mess of Uncharted and the Halo show has shown that there are still retards who do not understand the story. That said, I do want to see it happen regardless just to spite Bob.

I was gonna go through his vids to figure out when the last time he was in front of his green screen but immediately abandoned that because I found something far funnier.
Do you see the problem? It's not that his pinned video, The Bigger Picture and take note of that as it will be important, has slightly more views as his Morbius review.
He has flooded his own channel with so much reheated dross, sometimes thinly disguising them as something new and calling it the Bigger Picture, to the point that he has to put in the title of his videos "New" so anyone remotely interested doesn't get confused.
This is your new normal, Moviebob fans. It flabbergasts me that YMS seriously asked this guy for advice on how to run his channel.

The fact that Bob's recording set up has somehow gotten MUCH worse suggests his financial situation that led to him moving in with his mom is really bad. I really enjoy how the audio and video are completely unsynched as well.

Won't happen unless Patreon itself does a Web 2.0 bubble and everyone has to move to another service. People I dropped due to inactivity years ago still have patrons. Some people just don't notice the recurring charge.

I'll be honest, it seems more of a lazy issue than an equipment issue. At least from what I could tell on the last video of his I checked out. His audio editing was really amateurish and it made me wonder if he had worked with someone else to edit it in the past. I heard a lot of clipping and really obvious cuts. The only way I could imagine it being worse is if he pulled a Digibro and recorded in stereo while moving the microphone.
Maybe I'll check the Sonic vid later and see if those same problems persist, but Bob plus Sonic seems like a singularity of autism.

Yeah, the best we can hope for is a continued long, slow decline. Hell, John "Brianna Wu" Flynt still has 58 people giving him almost $250/month when he literally hasn't posted anything to his Patreon since early 2015, and hasn't done anything related to video games since he shat out Revolution 60 onto Steam in late 2016. Outside of complete meltdowns like Lowtax's, most Patreons tend to slowly fade out as cards expire or people find someone new to pledge to.
For reference, it took just over two years for Bob's Patreon to decline from its previous peak to his post-Escapist firing spike, from $4630 in August 2018 to $3052 in October 2020. He then got a bunch of pity pledges after he got fired and bounced all the way up to $4638 within a month, then the Lindsay Ellis incident happened and killed his upward momentum with an immediate cancellation of a bunch of pledges. Since then, it's been just under a year and a half, and he's already almost back to where he was before he got fired, only about $170 away, but with fewer patrons than he had then, so each one lost hurts more. For reference, the last time he had this few patrons was December 2016.
At his current bleedout, he's losing about $50 a month. If the trend holds, he'll dip below $3k/month and hit an all-time low by August. We'll just have to see.
I put this below a spoiler tag because I know Bob looks at this thread sometimes, and I fear calling attention to his declining Patreon might make him put out a call for pledges that leads to another spike. While I don't think he'd get nearly the response he did last time (it's not like he can get fired again when he hasn't had a job since then), I'd still rather not chance it.

I did at the time.
While I disagreed with the specifics, at the time some of his opinions made sense. MegaMan was riding high on the recent nostalgia sequels during the pixel art platformer revival. Meanwhile, Sonic games were shitting themselves by thinking the solution to the declining licence was adding lots of new "friends". Even Sonic fans I met in real life would say that if their OC was added then it would fix the games.
So yes, in a way Bob's idea of nuking the extended cast sounded like a good idea even if it would piss off the fans. Bob's "megaman path" was proven correct with Sonic Mania.
SatAM was the best thing to come out Sonic, and second best was the hugely underrated kart racers.

Not asking you to powerlevel, but I'm curious about your age. I notice Bob fans (who aren't speds or troons) tend to skew a good bit younger and outgrow him. As someone who's got a few years on Bob, I always thought he was completely full of shit, even on the rare occasions I encountered him before Gamergate.

I’m 32. Honestly loved Bob’s early stuff when I discovered him on the Escapist. There wasn’t a lot of that kind of content back then y’know?
Then a couple of years later I thought “This man is a vile cunt” and he got removed from the Escapist twitter feed before being sacked.

I still say Forces could've been better had they committed to the grit. The problem was, in addition to being, ya know, a sonic game with the sonic fandom, they set up this gritty, hard ass story: Sonic captured, being tortured, the world is fucked, Tails is actually losing his mind, but within twenty minutes, it's back to the status quo, wacky Sonic times.
If they had actually went there, I think Forces would have been looked more kindly on. Infinite shows they're self aware enough to understand the edge is hilarious, but gotta do what the boss says, I guess.
